Do not come here for a chain hotel experience. The hotel is small,as are, frankly some of the rooms but they are also attractive and well fitted out.Against that, the level of service is very individual and the food really excellent. The setting is obviously stunning and I look forward to returning some day.
A minor whinge which I should have mentioned at the desk was some alarming plumbing noises when the hot tap was turned on ; so fix that ! ( room 25 I think above the single room )

What an amazing location ! We had a superb meal with special service. Must say the journey was interesting to reach the cove and hotel but definitely worth it. If you can book ahead the check out the menu for local crab.

Room Tip: We didn't stay but the food was divine

Stayed here for two nights and ate in restaurant on both evenings.

Hotel situated right on the harbour very well decorated, very attentive staff and outstanding food.

A real great place to stay only disappointment was we should have stayed longer.

On our list of places to return to, would go for a better room next time for more space and a balcony.

Our only regret is that they could only accommodate us for one night instead of two! Everything about The Lugger is fantastic. Be prepared for an exciting drive down to Portloe but when you get there you will think it is worth it. It's so peaceful here - we had a short walk and saw seals in the water. The staff are delightful, very efficient, welcoming, and pleasant. And the food - the best way to describe it is to say "Why haven't they been awarded a Michelin Star(s)?" We enjoyed every mouthful, both at dinner and breakfast. Upmarket but relaxed - no wonder they are busy!

We had passed this hotel a couple of years back on a walk along the cliffs from Portscatho but not gone in. So when the opportunity to stay there for a couple of nights as part of a 'gastro tour' of Devon & Cornwall we couldn't resist. The setting right on the harbour is unbeatable and Portloe is reminiscent of another era. We were made welcome right from the start. The room though small was adequate and everything about it was very comfortable and upmarket. The staff were professional, attentive but friendly. Everyone there when we stayed was extremely complimentary to the chef - the menus were imaginative and food tasty and well prepared. We later found out that the Sous Chef was responsible for this as the Head Chef was on holiday! We enjoyed the meals more than the others on our holiday including those of three well known TV chefs.
When you go to the Lugger if you have a choice, go in your smaller car!

Room Tip: Ask for one looking over the harbour.

After reading some of the earlier reviews of The Lugger & the negative comments regarding the lack of customer service from the Management (Richard & Russell) - I can only presume they have now both undergone personality transplants......?? They were both attentive, polite, & extremely 'accomplished' at their trade.

We stayed on a 'deal' so didn't expect to be in the best room, but Room 312 was just lovely, dual aspect windows, both with sea & village views. Not a massive room, small, but perfectly formed. The rest of the staff were excellent at their job; the food was better than just 'good'; the breakfast a delight and how they managed to arrange such fab weather is a credit to them.......( We only dined in on the first evening, which was no reflection on the fab meal we had had - just that we were on a 'gastro tour' of Cornwall and my waistline needed a break,)

The extra touches (home-made cakes in the room in the afternoon, hot chocolate & marshmallows in the evening, being offered bkankets to enable us to enjoy our drinks on the terrace in the evening, & a carry-out of fruit & water for the drive home) are what this hotel is about.

If you plan on trying The Lugger, don't let previous 'niggly' reviews put you off- go with an open mind & I hope you enjoy the stay as much as we did.

Another lovely stay at this fabulous gem. Tucked away on the Roseland it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.Dinner was delicious. Breakfast outstanding. Room clean and very comfortable. I cannot fault anything about The Lugger. Welcoming helpful staff make it a home from home. Thanks to Russell and Richard and all the staff for a perfect stay

Room Tip: Rooms with their own terrace are quite special
