Really friendly staff and customers, nice food too. We had just walked the south west coastal path from Portscatho and were in need of a rest and lunch. Nothing was any trouble and they even organised a taxi for us to take us back. All in all the Ship is what a traditional village pub ought to be.

We visited this pub today after reading reviews on this website. What a shame! Firstly, the owner (Mark) didn't even look to speak to us when we walked in, he was writing the menu on the board and we felt like we shouldn't have been there. The barman, however, was absolutely excellent and made us feel very welcome, so we decided to stay. The menu contained about 6 choices of food, all of which were fish or gammon (ham). We chose the fish. We were the only 4 in the pub but it took an hour for the food to come to our table. First impressions were good, the fish was huge, overlapping the plate. This was soon a problem though as it was so greasy it was dripping fat all over the table. Anyway, I put my serviette under the end of it to soak it up - job done. Although the fish looked big, it was mostly batter and the fish was a very thin slither sandwiched between the top and bottom thick batter. I know it was out of season, but we were bitterly disappointed in the food. To sum up - the barman couldn't have been nicer, the food certainly could have been!
