“A Lucky Break”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

We picked this hotel as it was roughly on our route back from Loughborough to the south coast and we had 2 days to play with . Also it was in an area we did not know.
The hotel lent us 2 cycles for the day so we pedalled 12 miles each way to Market Harborough on the disused railway cycle route NCN 6, through two 500 metre tunnels - torch essential. MH is an attractive town.
Service was great, bar meals were good value and plentiful, and we enjoyed pre breakfast swims in a very warm pool. Bedroom was fine but could be noisy had it been busy facing courtyard.
The manager came and chatted with us at breakfast.
A very enjoyable stay

We are so pleased that you had an enjoyable stay with us and enjoyed our facilities and that you managed to have a lovely bike ride to Market Harborough.
It really is a lovely town.

We Stayed here for Two Nights just after Christmas This is the Second time we have stayed here.
The Hotel is set in a quiet country side area in the Village of Creaton Near Northampton
We Didnt stay in the House this time but were allocated a room in one of the many complexes situtated all around the grounds next to the Gym and a few moments walk to the Restaurant.
The room was Large Modern Spotless and just what we wanted
The Food was as last time Very Good indeed and the service was brilliant
It was also nice to see Familiar faces from our last visit as the staff hadnt changed which we think is a good thing.
There were Two weddings One on our day of arrival and One the following day, and allthough there were plenty of guests attending the wedding They had a separate bar and used the function rooms provided so plenty of room for ourselves and other guests staying there.
All in all We thought that this Hotel is one of the best we have stayed in and one of the reasons was that the Hotel staff remembered us both from our last visit and made us feel like friends as well as guests. It is a comfortable place with lots of seating areas to relax in
Dont be put off by first appearances of the outside complexes,Once you have settled in and found your way around this Hotel offers a lot more than you think

I stayed here for a Xmas party night. Staff were really welcoming and catered for my every need, as I needed to swap rooms because of my bad leg. Bags carried to my room at the drop of a hat, I didn't need to ask. brilliant food and great atmosphere. Will definitely come back

We attended a wedding at Highgate House over the weekend, arriving on Friday afternoon and departing yesterday. I cannot praise highly enough the service we received from every member of staff that we met. Nothing was too much trouble and the service impeccable. Our rooms (we asked to move as the first room was a bit too noisy from Christmas party revellers) were cozy and warm. The food was excellent and the Chef at breakfast couldn't have been more helpful.

Room Tip: As long as you don't mind the short walk across the car park the 'bungalows' away from t...

We were on a business trip to record two of the UK's best-known and widely revered anglers, World Champion Bob Church, who was born and raised in Northampton, and Dave Steuart, a very spritely octogenarian and well-respected leading light in the world of angling. The recording was being made for the Recollections' series of books and cds which are produced for a charitable trust, Angling Heritage (UK). www.anglingheritage.org

I always employ the same sound-recordist, John McCombie; he's a charming and seasoned professional and since this is the fifth in the series, we are both well-versed in the recording process. However, ahead of time, he expressed his concerns that making a recording in a Hotel would have its problems - the recording equipment is extremely sensitive and movement of people, gardners working in the grounds, rooms being cleaned and traffic noise, would easily be picked up by the microphones. I combed the internet for a suitable location and found Highgate House. Not only is it close to Bob's home in Northampton but it appeared to have the conference facilities' package I was looking for at a reasonable cost for the not-for-profit trust which exists to preserve angling oral history.

On arrival, my husband and I were alarmed - we drove into the grounds through a gated entrance and round to what we thought was a service entrance. The car park was empty apart from a couple of cars and two very smartly turned out horses! This is Pytchley country so that wasn't such a suprise. When I asked later, I was told that a coach-load of delegates had left shortly before our arrival - it felt as though we had the entire Hotel to ourselves; that is until the following day when a wedding party arrived!

First impressions of the Hotel are not great; there are some very unattractive buildings in the large car park which signalled Motel, rather than Hotel and as we carried our luggage up the steps to Reception, we were a little in trepidation as to what we might find. The Hotel looked good on their website but as seasoned travellers, we have sometimes found, to our cost, that it can be dicey when trying a new venue found on the internet. We need not have worried.

The reception area is welcoming and bright, with bowls of fresh apples and bottles of water on offer, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. In addition to our luggage, we had heavy boxes of books with us and as our room was little distance from the main building, we were told that we could drive round to unload the car. Two members of staff helped my husband to carry the the boxes into our room which was situated in a small private courtyard where our guests also had rooms which were luxurious, warm and very comfortable. I awoke early the next morning, and could hear the passing traffic, but this didn't prove a problem during the recording sessions.

The Highgate is a Hotel which is full of surprises; from the gorgeous main house which houses a magnificent panelled banqueting room, to the modern restaurant which has a distinctly Japanese feel, although if I managed the Hotel, I would definitely choose more relaxing music for evening dining when you don't want to feel rushed through your meal!

We didn't use the sports facilities because we didn't have time; the recording was scheduled for the 19th November and Bob and Dave were due to arrive at 9.30 a.m. I was especially happy when I was shown the conference room in which we making the recording,. It was quiet and away from the main building and had easy access, which was great for one of our party who has mobility problems.

The food at the Hotel is good; they have an award-winning Chef so the inclusive package menu was varied and imaginative; breakfast was o.k. and when we arrived late on Monday morning (we thought service was until 9.30 a.m. but it is 9.00 a.m. on weekdays, and we weren't the only people to arrive at 9.20 a.m.) the staff couldn't have been more helpful and brought us a huge plated breakfast.

The conference package is good value; we had unlimited non-alcoholic beverages, a buffet lunch, and tea and cakes in the afternoon; nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they are clearly well-trained and motivated to provide a first-class service to their guests.

A sign requesting 'Quiet - recording in progress' was placed outside the entrance to the conference room which was spacious, light and very cosy and at the end of the day when it was time for our guests to leave, we parted happily, having recorded something of these great anglers' lives for posterity, in a venue which was first-class in every sense.

Would we stay there again? Most definitely.

Room Tip: I didn't experience a stay in any of the rooms in the main Hotel, but had a lovely room with gre...
