Idyllic rural location? Tick. Character pub with lots of nooks and crannies? Tick. Helpful and knowledgeable bar staff? Tick. Food served promptly? Errrr not really. Yes it was a busy Sunday and yes as the very approachable landlady explained, they were an oven down, but it just took too long to serve the food, and we were first to order as well. No explanation was offered in response to our polite enquiries as to when we could expect something to stop the kids gnawing the table in hunger, and when the food did turn up it was good but a little cold. So much of this pub is so good, and it definitely deserves a second chance when all the ovens are working, but they need to work on managing people's expectations more, especially when there is a perfectly good reason for it.
