“Close, but no cigar”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

Idyllic rural location? Tick. Character pub with lots of nooks and crannies? Tick. Helpful and knowledgeable bar staff? Tick. Food served promptly? Errrr not really. Yes it was a busy Sunday and yes as the very approachable landlady explained, they were an oven down, but it just took too long to serve the food, and we were first to order as well. No explanation was offered in response to our polite enquiries as to when we could expect something to stop the kids gnawing the table in hunger, and when the food did turn up it was good but a little cold. So much of this pub is so good, and it definitely deserves a second chance when all the ovens are working, but they need to work on managing people's expectations more, especially when there is a perfectly good reason for it.

“Great country pub”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

Always dependable for a good well-kept pint and interesting selection of tasty home-made food. Not far from Dorking and well worth seeking out.

“Great service. A proper country pub, not a chain!”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

If you are fed up of poor quality, chain type pubs, this one is for you! We hadn't booked and stopped here on a bike ride on a Sunday. Would definitely book. They squeezed us in because they had a cancellation. The staff were absolutely fantastic. We wanted to tak our coffees and pudding outside while the children ran around. Not a problem! My husband wanted extra parsnips. No proble. The food was excellent. We intend to make this a regular place for weekend family lunches and also want to try dinner with friends.

Eaten here on several occasions and the food is consistently good. Great olde worlds atmosphere , crackling fires in winter, delicious food, cooked to perfection.
