“MOnday nights are a must”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

Monday nights are a must at the miners. The snow was falling but the fire was roaring. Carvery £5.95 including a free starter or dessert. Excellent quality and value for money. Great family atmosphere. Was greatly enjoyed by everyone, including the kids.

Hello Nicola - we're absolutely over the moon that you enjoyed our Carvery - this was just our second week and so far the response has been great - it's seems to be the perfect way to spend a winters evening in January! We'll be making a few tweaks so let us know what you think if you visit again. Johan and Polly x

“I'm not a relative”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

No, viewers, I'm not a relative, not even a friend or acquaintance but owners Johan and Polly run the most appertising restaurant anyone could come across. After only three visits to their oldy-worldy, warmly-welcoming pub/restaurant in rural Medomsley, there is no other conclusion. Today highlighted that for me.

OK., you have to like beef steak and real ale pie filled with a gravy sauce to die for (after a mouth-watering starter pate with its accompanying Cumberland sauce) but that's just my choice..........and, yes, there are a host of other more fanciful dishes which some 'upper crusts' might prefer. To my mind, however, it's criminal to pass chef's heavenly pie.

Johan and his lady are to be applauded, not only for the pleasure they give to their customers, but for greeting you so smilingly and serving you so professionally with such memorable food (and wines and ale, too!).

Thank you both - and "congratulations chef".

“GREAT FOOD VALUE FOR MONEY AND GREAT STAFF”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

We went with the family and all had different meals 4 of us had the set 3 course menu which was great value for money and portions were very ample. I had the fish and chips of the standard menu, the fish was huge and just enough chips and mushy peas to compliment it definitely the best fish and chips Ive had in a long time at a reasonable price . Another in our party had a burger of the specials board which was gigantic.I would recommend this restaurant to everyone as there is a great choice of food and the portions are very filling also you can have the set menu for 1, 2 or 3 courses which is exceptional vale for money. All the staff we met were extremely friendly and efficient. We will most certainly be returning thank you.

“Great value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012

We have had a meal on 4 occasions now at the miners. 3 have been excellent and once was very average so i don't know if the chef was away that day. This time we took a relative from the states who in her 3 week stay in various places in the UK had fish and chips everytime she went out. She rated the Miners by far the best she has had and believe me she is picky. The fish has always been massive and is good as any I have ever had. There is a good choice on the menu and has always been freshly cooked so it takes a little longer than other places and is very reasonably priced. Staff have always been very friendly and there is a warm atmosphere. I have never bothered with a desert as the portions have been very generous and haven,t had room.
I would thoroughly recommend a visit

“Excellent home coked pub food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2012

We had lunch at the Miners Arms on 18 Dec and can only describe it as excellent. The food was classic pub dishes but cooked to a high quality and in plentiful amounts. Very friendly and welcoming. We'll definitely be going back.
