We have just stayed 2 nights at this lovely Hotel with friends and had a very pleasant stay. The bedrooms are well appointed and comfortable, may be the bathrooms are a little tired. The dinning rooms are lovely and there is a nice relaxing bar. Special mention must go to Lal the Restaurant manager and Matthew the Bar attendant excellent members of staff and a credit to the Hotel.

I booked this 2 night stay through kgbdeals and it was wonderful! The staff couldn't have been more helpful, and the room was so comfortable. The only downside was that we weren't staying longer. As for the food! The evening meals were very good with an excellent choice, and the breakfasts delicious. Looking forward to returning there again.

Room Tip: Overlooking the deer park was really relaxing.

Stayed here for a 2 night break. Hotel is in a lovely position in large grounds with a deer park and lake for fishing. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Excellent friendly and helpful staff. Nice bedroom with everything you could need and lovely bathroom. Would have given it an excellent rating but we did have a couple of cleanliness issues. On arrival in room found 2 very large toe nails on carpet. Carpet also had a few stains on. In the bathroom the toilet brush was just left on the floor, and not in a holder. If used I dread to think what would be left on the floor. We were blessed with excellent weather and visited Durham Cathedral and had a day out to Beamish which was excellent.

This hotel is in a beautiful location, we booked it because we wanted to visit Durham cathedral & it was an ideal place to stop. We used the park & ride as directed by Carol on reception it was very easy to find & great value for money. The hotel rooms were lovely in fact the largest we've stayed in for a long time. The breakfast was good & all the staff were very obliging. I must admit I was slightly worried about using Best Western, last time we did it was terrible but that wasn't Whitworth Hall & I needn't have had any concern.

Booked a 2 night stay here through KGB Deals as my original hotel choice was fully booked for any of the dates I wanted, so glad I did as this place is a little gem. In the middle of a deer park it was a magical setting. We were welcomed by Miranda, front of house manager with a beaming smile and booked in within minutes. We were shown to our ground floor room which was to the rear of the hotel. The room was spacious and spotless with a view over the woodland . We had provisionaly booked a table for 8pm and we told we could eat either in the Library the A la Carte restaurant of in the Silver Buckles Bistro. We studied the menus and decided that as Tuesday night was Steak Night in the Bistro( 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £29) we opt for that. The steak was excellent as was the Stilton sauce and the wine very palatable. We did have Mussels as starters as an extra and again these were very good.
Next day breakfast was served in the Library, an extensive choice of continental and cooked dishes with gallons of tea and coffee. We spent the day touring the area, so many places to see, especially the Bowes Museum in Castle Barnard and the Hamsterly Forest . We dined in the Library that night on pan fried Scallops, if I had been at home I would have been tempted to like the plate as the sauce was so delicious and the the confit of duck was the best I've tasted this side of the channel. The food here is of a very high standard and reasonably priced. The small bar is cosy, with sofas you can curl up in. The staff are warm and friendly as well as being very efficient, on our last morning everyone turned up to breakfast at the same time so the bar manager who was in the middle of bottling up etc promptly turned his had to waiting on tables etc, they get 10/10 for being a team. We had a perfect short break here waking up to the birds singing, no traffic noise here, my only disappointment that it was raining as we were leaving so I had no chance to feed the deer but we had walked in the deer park and round the lake when were arrived. OK, the place may be in need of a little decorating and tlc here and there, all gems need a little polishing now and again, but if you go and stay these are worth putting up with so much so to say that we will definitely be going back.

Room Tip: We had room 25 which was ground floor rear and very quiet.
