This was a regular haunt when young and visited with Grandparents often.
While out with friends in the area we ate at Mumfords, nothing has changed, still very good venue.
The food was excellent and we were pleased with the service and the attention to detail. Would definitely return for a second visit.

I have been to Mumfords many times, and have never had a bad meal. Yes, it is expensive compared to cheaper fish and chip shops in the area, but you pay for what you get, and at Mumfords the food is lovely. I have eaten in the restaurant part as well and it is very comfortable and homely. This fish and chip shop does get busy! especially on Friday evenings, so be prepared for a little wait. But it will be worth it!

We were visiting relatives in Gray's and looked on here for a decent restaurant. Mumford's had excellent reviews and it did not disappoint. Just off the one way system in a side street it was fairly easy to find. There is a car park just opposite £1 for 2 hours. The outside is fairly non-descript and inside its comfortable with a sea theme decor. This is not the Ritz and does not pretend to be but it does the simple things well. There was a full range of fish available and all the meals ordered were well cooked, with lovely batter and tasty light browned chips indicating fresh oil had been used. The sweets were especially inviting and appeared to have been made to measure instead of coming out of the freezer which is often the case. The price was similar to other fish restaurants but the overall quality was better. We had an excellent meal at a reasonable price in pleasant surroundings. The service was efficient and attentive. If you are in the area its well worth a visit. They also have a take away section. Cash or cheque only for payment, not a problem for us.
