“Beautiful venue with heaps of character ideal for a get together”
Reviewed December 15, 2013

I stayed here with four girlfriends over night. The old building has been beautifully converted but has maintained many original features. It is nicely decorated, very comfy beds and it attached to the kings arms pub where we had dinner and breakfast, the food was gorgeous, an original menu and reasonably priced. I want I go back, next time for two nights, stay in one and make the most of the apartment and the net night to et at the pub gain. A great place from which to explore the Cotswold.

Room Tip: There are four apartments of different sizes.

The room was 'nice', it had obviously been redecorated reasonably recently. The bed was comfortable. However, the room was very dark, even with all the lights on. The sash window was open and quite difficult to close. The dead fly and dust on the window suggests it may not have been checked that well. The secondary glazing was just about enough to keep out the traffic noise but it had to be closed to ensure that we could sleep. There was no milk in the room to go with the tea and coffee making facility. There was a hanging rack instead of a wardrobe, which in itself wasn't an issue apart from there only being two hangers, which was insufficient for two of us even for just one night.

We were there for a relaxing weekend, so we really didn't need to hear the person behind the bar on the phone to a computer company getting increasingly frustrated trying to sort out computer problems for ages, we were there just trying to unwind after all.

The food in the restaurant was good, at the top end of the price range for the quality, but not excessive. I wine was good and reasonably priced. What I did resent was the 'discretional' 10% service charge, which was really not justified and was pure profiteering.

The cooked breakfast was good. The croissant and pastries had run out before a number of guests came down for breakfast.

Overall was it worth the £105 B&B price? Well, not really. There are better out there for the same or less.

We only spent one night at the Kings Arms, and as soon as we arrived I knew I wanted more. The rooms are smartly designed, comfortable, have personality (the bold equine murals are amazing) and are wonderfully cosy. We stayed in a Double with Shower, and it was perfect.

The staff were very courteous and helpful, and the food was delicious. The pub has a great local feel, as though you've been invited to a private party. We can't wait to go back. Definitely a highlight of our weekend away.

I travelled to the Kings Arms Didmarton last weekend, it was a special weekend as I was planning to propose to by girlfriend at Westonbirt in the afternoon.

Mark the new landlord was an absolute star, just what you want from a lovely country pub, great host and nothing was too much trouble. I would fully recommend the pub to anyone who wants a relaxing weekend away, mark and the team were fantastic throughout and I will definitely be revisiting. The room was lovely and the value for the whole weekend was second to none, absolutely no ripping off going on here, top marks all round.

Room Tip: All bespoke feel so I'm sure they will be lovely

Stayed for one night with my partner, management were very welcoming & gave advice about the area. Allowed my partner to try some wine before choosing one she liked. (nice touch)
After visiting Tetbury for a walk we ate in the restaurant, very nice ambience with lit-candles. Food was lovely, only small gripe was the waiters couldn't answer our questions about some items on the menu - but they were polite.
We had to leave early in the morning so would of missed breakfast but they allowed us to take load of cereals to our room & some milk in a wine-cooler with ice (another nice touch).
Room was gorgeous, view of a field & a 4-poster bed.
Would def stay there again....

Room Tip: Ask for a 4-poster !

Having had an enjoyable stay in the main pub a few years ago finding it cosy, comfortable and clean we decided to return. Due to a crawling son we rented one of the self catering cottages conveniently across the car park.

Whilst 'Bobtail' is marketed as a self catering unit, for 4 people, please do not be fooled into thinking you can spend a week catering for yourselves if staying in it!

The kitchen is very randomly kitted out - no toaster, only 2 cereal bowls, 3 tumblers and a dishwasher that works only despite the internal baskets being broken and dangerous. The everyday dinner plate used to replace a presumably broken microwave turntable does not, sadly, do the job! The picnic freezer block and filled ice cube tray in the fridge made us chuckle given that said fridge does not actually have a freezer compartment!?

The cottage is smartly and comfortably decorated however the Charcoal and very dark green/grey walls and the extraordinary lack of lighting do not do it justice as these two factors make it virtually impossible to read, even during the day, and if you wish to see your supper companion we suggest you bring some candles! Of course very romantic but not very practical when trying to feed our son.

On the plus side the bed and bedding are very comfortable indeed. Efficient heating makes the place feel cosy. The shower looks dated but is very good with high pressure & lovely hot water and who doesn't love big fluffy towels and bathrobes? Nice to have a bath too.

All the staff in the pub are very friendly, accommodating and couldn't be more helpful even lending us a flower vase.

Sadly a few silly but rather important details ruin what could be an excellent cotswold bolt hole.

Ate one Saturday lunchtime.

We had been to the KA several times before, although not for over a year.
Indisputably gone downhill.

Bar mostly empty, definitely cold, and no piped music or any other background noise. Ok - subjective, but definitely not relaxing for me.

Ordered food at the bar as is usual in pubs.

Wanted a second round of drinks, and no-one behind bar, so had to go and find someone.

To be fair, food was ok but nothing special.

What really hacked me off is the they added service charge automatically - which vast majority of pubs don't in this area.

I am happy enough to leave a service charge if I have been shown to a table, served by a waiter, and rated the service. Not in a pub where I have to order at the bar.

I asked for the SC to be removed which was done without argument, but to me, adding it on on the first place is at best cheeky and at worst verging on sharp practice.

There are too many good places to eat in this area who don't automatically add charges to bother with here again
