“Relaxing night away from everything”

6 of us travelled to Glenlo on Saturday in the height of the bad stormy weather for a New Year get together and what a wonderful afternoon evening and morning we had. I called in advance and spoke to an extremely pleasant friendly lady Maura. She is a huge asset to the hotel in our opinion. Our rooms were not ready so we headed to the bar downstairs and started the party going. Well it was 4.30PM when we decided to go get our keys. Nothing was too much trouble with the staff from the time we arrived.

We ate in the hotel and the food was gorgeous. Presented very well and the dining room is very comfy and we had the added bonus of a round table.

I thought the music in the cellar bar was a little bit not suitable for our age group (50 - 65), although the girls were very talented.

The hotel was full on the night and again extremely busy at breakfast but the service was excellent. Well done to all of the staff. They made our stay very pleasant.

The rooms are a little dated if I was been honest but it did not effect our time there. The hotel itself had 3 log fires lighting which was very cosy.

Room Tip: I would imagine all of the rooms are equal.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed it very much. We found the hotel very relaxing with plenty of rooms to sit and read etc. Our meal on the Sunday night was excellent so we decided to eat there again on the Monday night. While it too was good it was not quite up to the standard of the 1st meal. It took three attempts for me to get the dessert I ordered. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. The rooms well serviced and comfortable. We wood query the rating of 5 star however.

Very friendly staff especially Enrico, & Maura. Beautiful setting relaxing & peaceful.Bedroom very dated, Food is ok. We would probably have enjoyed it more but our expectations were 5 star as per the hotel rating, it's not a five star.....

We visited Glenlo Abbey on an Aer Lingus "Castle Hotels" fly and drive package. While the property was not truly a castle, it was an old abbey and so has some historical perspective. Having said that, our two night stay was wonderful. The room was great, and we did eat in their Oak Cellar bar restaurant one night having a lovely meal. Had a lovely Powers whiskey after dinner. The staff were all great, especially Maura in Reception. She has been a tour guide in the region and gave us some great tips - and encouragement - for our drive down to the Dingle Peninsula. She was very, very helpful and generous with her time. We would highly recommend the property to others. Lovely views of the countryside with a golf course as well. The taxi to downtown Galway is about 12-14 Euros each way.

We were only going to be in Galway for 2 nights and we wanted to stay somewhere that was close to the city centre but still have the tranquility and peacefulness of a spacious property.

I was expecting smaller rooms typical of many European hotels but the room provided plenty of space. Luxurious; nicer than expected! Big bathrooms. The hotel staff was friendly and eager to please. The included breakfast was excellent; we were seated with a nice view of the Golf Course and Lake. In the late afternoon, the hotel had a tea service; very pleasant. The rooms have very good high speed internet.

We ate in the restaurant both nights as the food was amazing and great value.

I would recommend this hotel to any of my friends and family. You would think for a 5 star property the prices would of been through the roof but they were very reasonable considering the level of service and value.

Great views and it is ideally located for access to Galway City.

Can't wait to go again!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking the golf course and lake.

Recently stayed at Glenlo for the night for my husbands birthday. From the minute we arrived we were treated like royalty. The lady on reception was so friendly and welcoming, and the porter who brought our bags to the room was also very friendly and helpful with lots of
tips as he showed us to our room. We were upgraded to a riverview room which was fab. Large spacious room with the most comfortable bed ever!!! Bathroom needs a bit of updating but still everything was clean. Breakfast was very nice with lots of choice. The only small issue was as previously mentioned - the orange juice was very cheap tasting, like concentrated stuff with water added. However everything else was very nice, the fresh fruit salad was gorgeous. Really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning to Glenlo again. Highly recommend

We were visiting family in Galway and decided to treat ourselves to a five night stay at the Glenlo Abbey. On arrival We were greeted warmly by Maura who promptly upgraded our room to a suite! Although impressively large it was tired looking and seriously in need of updating, it has a very peculiar layout and extremely heavy doors leading to the shower room and toilet, neither of which had anywhere to place toiletries or makeup. This was my only criticism and our stay was really enjoyable.

The bed was extremely comfortable and the view from our room was memorable.

The reception and lounge areas were fabulous and throughout our stay the staff were extremely pleasant and friendly. We didn't catch her name, but the breakfast waitress looked after us really well. My husband 'Ivan' was particularly impressed with the generous serving of buttermilk pancakes with strawberries and maple syrup.

Sadly we didn't have the opportunity to visit the River Room restaurant on this visit - the menu looked great - but we did enjoy lunch one day in the downstairs bar.

We are looking forward to returning, very soon I hope.

Dear DoreenT,

How mouth watering! Buttermilk pancakes with strawberries and maple syrup! We get so many delightful compliments about our breakfasts which we are always grateful for and are well deserved by our breakfast chef. We were very happy to have you with us for five nights and hope that you might return again. We will pass on your kind words to Maura and everybody here!

Warmest regards
