“Nothing Was too Much Trouble”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2013

Upon entering and being greeted by Moira on Reception nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, can genuinely say they were all the friendliest bunch I have ever met. Moira was a star.
We eat in the restaurant on the first night, it was very quiet which was a shame but the food was superb well done to the chef and the portions were huge you dont need a starter. Breakfast was good as well with plenty of choice either the full irish or continental which you help yourself to or you can order from the menu which is a nice touch kippers or eggs benedict etc. Another nice touch is if you want tea/coffee in room which is complimentary you just ordered from reception which we did and it arrived within 10 minutes alot better then having a kettle and milk in little cartons sitting around. Everything in the rooms that you need although the only downside is they are a little dated (sorry about that) I really didnt want to be negative on anything as they were great. Nice walk around the Lough as well. Well done.

Dear Shal22

We are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for taking the time to share your experience. It is indeed nice to have tea and coffee delivered to your room in a nice silver pot rather than having to make it yourself. And even nicer that it is complimentary in your room! I am very happy to read your comments about breakfast, it is a lovely way to start your day. I will personally pass on your kind words to Maura and the rest of the staff here.

Warmest regards

Chris Austin

Imagine you have a wealthy auntie living in Galway and she's invited you to stay with her. That's what a stay at Glenlo Abbey feels like. It's not a traditional hotel experience because you really feel like you are staying in a grand, old home. The dining room is without a doubt the prettiest I've ever seen. Breakfast is delicious! The staff works hard to provide for your comfort (free coffee and tea is delivered to your room!). Beds are very comfortable.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a water view - very nice!

I stayed in Ireland for a week and was at a few hotels. Glenlo Abby was among the best of them. It was a great place to stay and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Thank you Maura, Sandra, Ali, Anna, and the rest of the staff for helping to make our stay there a great one.

My wife and I arrived to the hotel and immediately were made feel at home by the very warm and very helpful Sandra, thanks again Sandra. The hotel is ideally situated just a 5 minute drive from the city centre, yet when you arrive on the grounds of the hotel you feel you are away from all of the hustle and bustle, which made it very easy to relax and unwind. The hotel is very quaint with an elegant decor which adds to its charm. Our room was quiet spacious, with a panoramic view of Loigh Corrib. We were out of season for the Pullman Restaurant but the River Room restaurant did not disappoint, there is a lovely ambience to the dining area and the chef/staff were top class as was breakfast the following morning. Thoroughly recommended, great location, great staff and great hotel. Will be back again. Eamon and Loretta from Sligo.

Dear EamonCoyne,

Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are delighted that you enjoyed both dinner and breakfast with us. Our chefs and restaurant team work very hard and thoroughly enjoy ensuring that all our guests dining experiences exceed expectation. We are indeed ideally located but a stones throw from the vibrant Galway city but on our own very private land overlooking Ireland's largest lake, Lough Corrib. I will pass on your kind comments to Sandra who I know will be very happy to hear them.

stayed with my wife for easter weekend 2013. Had a wonderful relaxing stay which was what we wanted. Treated to a tour when we arrived. Small and quaint with an clean comfortable room overlooking golf course and loughcorrib. Fab food and professional attentiveness when we wanted it. Pullman out of action but food in rstaurant and bar was excellant. Maura and Anna were great in their advice and being made welcome. Great advice on to do things. Will be back definately and do the loughcorrib boat trip. A good way to get to the city.

Dear Bilcom,

We are delighted that you chose to spend Easter here at Glenlo. The brief tour we offer our guests on arrival is a lovely way of helping people feel at home with us. And the boat ride down the river into Galway city is such a wonderful alternative to driving! I will pass on your kind comments to Maura and Anna who I know will be most appreciative.

My friend and I spent 2 nights at Glenlo Abbey, and were totally charmed by the warmth and helpfulness shown us by Maura. She gave us great suggestions for places to eat and find music in Galway, and very explicit directions for a marvelous drive through Connemara and the Fjiord. The property is charming, with beautiful old touches everywhere. We spent time lounging in all of the common areas, each exhibiting its own feel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Abbey, but especially the level of service provided by all, especially Maura.

Dear Strubs1,

What beautiful photographs! Thank you so much for sharing them. The lounge and library are lovely and cosy especially after twilight when we dim the chandeliers. We then have them candlelit as they were when the house was an original family home. I will be sure to pass your kind comments on to Maura.

We hope to welcome you back to Glenlo soon.

Warmest regards
