The experience we had at this hotel was above all expectations. All members of the staff team were friendly, helpful and efficient, obviously highly trained but very natural and thoughtful. Yes one or two places could do with a spot of paint but this is an old, period building with many guests passing through its doors. I loved the excellent food in both the Pullman and the bar and the Guinness was cheaper than anywhere else we drank! I would very much like to return one day.

All the staff were very helpful. The hotel itself could use some renovating. The bed was...rather like sleeping on straw. That room needed a new mattress. There's no tea or coffee maker in the room--one has to call room service each time, which is very awkward. The door to the parking lot cannot be opened with the room key, so it is often propped open. And when it isn't, one has to walk way around (my experience was in the cool rain). The hotel claims there's WIFI, though we could never connect in the room. The business center has a slow computer that did connect--though there were waits of more than an hour at times to use it. Why bother with a computer while on holiday? I was trying to communicate with someone in Dublin who;d promised to show us local animals.

Room Tip: How to choose a good room? Not ours (lower level, facing the parking lot and lough)!

Hello and thank you for you review.

My first reaction is naturally disappointment that we failed to meet your expectations in the bedrooms that you were allocated.
I am also very disappointed that had you raised these issues whilst staying here we could have dealt with and resolved your concerns immediately.

We are a very proactive property and we take the comfort and well-being of our guests very seriously something that is born out in the constant positive comments of our guests as to the level of service and the exceptional friendliness of all our team.

It should be noted that Glenlo Abbey is a period residence and it is enjoyed by many thousands of customers each year who come for the experience of staying in a hotel steeped in history with many unique features such as our original Orient express restaurant carriage.

With regard to the speed of the internet service in the hotel it may have been the case that alot of people were attempting to get in contact with loved ones after the storms that hit New York thus slowing the connection down.
That said please accept my appoligies on behalf of the team for not meeting your expectations.

Once again thank you for your review.

Michael

A great place to stay, food is excellent, the train carriage a must to eat in. Service is very frendly and helpfull. The setting is lovely and the hotel decor is old world. The room was clean and very nice, with a nice view of the train carrage and hotel grounds.
No spa or swimming pool, but don't let this put you off.
Nice Walks
Golf Course

Room Tip: Ask for a Water View or a view of the train carrage. Ask for reception level if mobility is an issue

Went with two other couples for a friends night away. The hotel was superb. We had amazing rooms, very spacious but cosy with all mod cons. We received a very warm welcome from front of house staff, think her name was Sandra, which set the tone for our lovely experience in Glenlo Abbey. Dinner in The Pullman was a lovely experience as was the fab breakfast next morning. Lovely grounds for a stroll and so near Galway city as well. We were given free coffee after we checked out which was a nice touch before we headed home. definitely will be back.

Room Tip: all three rooms were beautiful. no problems with noise.

Just back from a great weekend in Glenlo. Do not understand the reviews which are critical of the state of the rooms and decor unless they were looking for high tec minimalism. We have stayed all over the world and found in Glenlo exactly what we expected. A lovely period house with quality furnishings to match its character. Our room on the top floor had stunning views over the golf course to Lake Corrib and was well furnished. It may not have had tea /coffee making facilities but that was more than compensated for by the very quick delivery of complimentary hot beverages to the room as requested. The staff were as friendly, helpful and efficient as I've met and Victoria, Sandra and John merit the 5 star rating on their own. Plus Kevin and his team in the Pullman - as others have said an atmospheric treat with excellent food - and the breakfast staff who couldn't have been more attentive. All in all a super weekend and highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view on the top floor.

We stayed for one night in glenlo abbey , lots of old world glamour in main reception and sitting areas , rooms are dated but comfortable. New carpet in the hall ways would make an enormous difference here. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal in the unique pullman resteraunt , and with new pricing it was great value for money. Breakfast was good in a beautiful dining room.with its closeness to galway city we would gladly visit again. Staff friendliness are a credit to this hotel .
