My friend who grew up in Galway and has five sisters, who've all been married in the Galway area, had recommended this as the best place to get married.

They were correct.

The staff was absolutely amazing. They accomodated every single tiny request that came their way, and took care of all the big stuff, so all I had to do was show up.

My husband and I were so pleased with how easy the wedding was, we couldn't imagine a better venue, and a more beautiful one to get married in!

Room Tip: Ask for the suite with the sun room. In my opinion, that was the most beautiful suite in the place.

Dear NinaB703,

Thank you so much for the complimentary words about "Weddings at Glenlo". Thats what we're here to do....take the hastle out of your wedding plans and its all about turning up on the day and having the confidence in your venue and wedding team, to have everything arranged the way you want it to be!! The sun room is Room 307 and is my favourite too; overlooking the Walled Garden and the back of the Historic Abbey! Please do return someday....Unfortunately there are no current flights from DC, but that might change in the future. There's plenty of options though on the eastern seaboard that you well know about I'm sure. Thanks so much again for your kind words and please do stay in touch! Kind regards, Brian

Really enjoyed our stay in the Glenlo, found the hotel to have a very relaxed air about it. First off, staff are a credit to them, extremely helpful and friendly. They even go to the trouble of ringing around the bars in town to find out where's lively.
Location is a little out of town but we knew where it was before we went so that suited us fine. Nice grounds beside the river and golf course on the doorstep.
Rooms are large and comfortable, decorated in the style of the hotel, maybe not to everyone's tastes. We were on the ground floor so found it a little noisy with people passing in the corridor. Loved that whenever we rang for tea/ coffee we were offered complimentary biscuits or scones. Lunch was very good in the bar. Have been wanting to go to the Pullman for ages and loved everything about it, food was excellent and it was a lovely experience eating on the carriage. Best hotel breakfast I've had in a long time, couldn't fault anything, really good quality ingredients and set in beautiful dining room. There's lots of little rooms dotted around the hotel to relax or have a drink in. Overall highly recommend, service and food are of a very high standard. Very relaxing and romantic hotel

We stayed at Glenlo Abbey for two nights (saturday and sunday). We were also on a Groupon deal so it was amazing value. However, you would not be disappointed if paying more.

Glenlo Abbey Hotel is in a perfect location just outside Galway city (15 euro taxi) and easy access to Connemara. Elegant hotel with a beautiful dining room, library, and 2 cosy bars. The Pullman Restaurant (situated in original train carriages of the orient express in the grounds of the hotel) was an amazing experience with excellent food - if you don't stay here make sure you visit this restaurant! Our room needed a touch of updating particularly the bathroom but overall it was tastefully decorated, spacious, clean, very comfy, had a beautiful view, and was a great place to relax. The hotel staff were exceptional and made us feel at home immediately.

Overall we would agree that it is not a 5 star hotel but would highly recommend staying here.

We spent one night here celebrating two birthdays. From the moment we arrived it felt like we were stepping back in time to a bygone era when the customers needs were of first and foremost importance. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We had complimentary coffee and home made cookies served in our rooms and then we made our way down to the bar for pre-dinner drinks. We dined in the Pullman restaurant aboard the Orient Express and we were treated to complimentary bubbly to celebrate the birthdays, which was a really nice and unexpected gesture. The food was really good and the service and attention we received was excellent. After dinner we asked if we could have a music session in the residents bar as some of the party had brought their own instruments and this request was not a problem. Some of the other guests joined in the session and we had a really nice end to the night. The morning after, breakfast was served in the River Room and was exceptionally good. We walked through the grounds of the hotel and the golf course after breakfast which was really nice. In general we found the whole experience very relaxing and would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a bit of old fashioned five star attention and relaxation.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a room with a view of the lake and the golf course and the view was spectacular...

We stayed here on Easter Monday & Tuesday, as I had read the T A reviews I was not expecting top end luxury, we were on a Groupon deal so I thought it would be OK. On arrival staff were great, very welcoming. Our room was very well presented with a beautiful view of Lough Corrib, I can see where people have commented that the "tired" look detracts from the overall feel and is not quite 5 star, however, it is what I would call shabby chic, and well preserved. You either love or hate this sort of look, The food was great, at breakfast you could not ask for more. We were happy enough with the location as we were using the hotel as a basis to explore Galway and Connemara, if you are going to Galway for the pubs and restaurants (which are many and fabulous) book somewhere nearer town centre. it is about 3 km out. No gym, swimming pool or spa. beautiful golf course though!

Spent one night here and had a very relaxing time. It was easy to find and the setting is wonderful. The hotel is very comfortable but the décor is a bit old fashioned, although perfectly clean and not at all worn. We had kindly been upgraded to a suite, so had lots of space – it was a spacious room anyway, with plenty of seating.

I had understood from the website that we would have the choice of dining in the hotel or in the Pullman Restaurant (a couple of Orient Express carriages outside) but the choice that evening was the Pullman or a bar meal, so we went for the Pullman – a bit tricky as I don’t walk very well, but it was comfortable and rather fun and the food was very good. Back in the hotel lounge, we had the place to ourselves, which was fine by us, but wouldn’t suit you if you wanted a little more atmosphere.

Breakfast was in the River Room with lovely views and a very tasty breakfast – a help yourself buffet or you could order various things from the menu, so plenty of choice.

I would happily stay here again, although having done the Pullman Restaurant once, I wouldn’t be too bothered about doing it again. The staff were really helpful so it seems a bit mean to say that a couple of them could do with The Personal Hygiene Talk with their boss. They looked after us very well and good staff really do make an enormous difference to how you feel about a place. There were people playing golf and all sorts of activities you could do locally, but I think the hotel would maybe suit people who wanted a relaxing, fairly sedate time in comfortable, peaceful surroundings.

Dear VisitorsfromYork,

Thank you for your recent review on our property and I'm happy that your short break was enjoyable albeit I appreciate your negative comments too. I'm sorry that our Oak Cellar Bar wasnt as lively as it can be but obviously this is dictated by occupancy and time of year and although we were very busy in April with good occupancy levels, you may have hit us on a lower period. Nonetheless, thank you for your review. Kind regards, Brian
