just back from glenlo after weekend break, definately not a 5 star hotel,no pool no mini bar in room.please upgrade your bedside lamps, bulbs were so low wattage could not read in bed ,also you might tell bus drivers collecting wedding guests at 3 am in the morning not to leave their engines running.could not fault the staff very friendly and helpful.

my wife and i have just returned from a fantastic trip in this hotel, the staff are top class, the hotel has a very relaxed athmosphere. we dined in the pullman restaurant sunday night and i can honestly say it was the best dining experience we have had in a long time. these people deserve to be supported.

Enjoyed our stay - hotel was quiet, staff were helpful and food overall was great. The afternoon tea was a little disappointing (sandwiches were quite plain and didn't seem fresh) and the overall decor of the hotel was a little jaded - I think anyone going expecting 5 star and paying 5 star prices may be disappointed. However, we paid quite little, had a lovely room, delicious breakfast and a relaxing time so we were happy!

I booked Glenlo as a treat for a mum and daughter getaway. The staff were very welcoming and helpful - five star treatment withour feeling stuffy. The room was spacious and clean and well equipped. The bed was really comfy! Bathroom - again well equipped and very nice, and the towels fluffy, thick and pleasant smelling. Nice toiletries.

Breakfast was amazing! Choice of menu or buffet and plenty of cereal, juices, pastries, meats and cheese and fruit. Eggs benedict, kippers etc also on the menu, leaf tea and lovely coffee. Lovely to relax, read the paper and chat for a good hour and a half without being ushered along. What a great way to spend a Sunday morning!

The hotel itself is old fashioned (and obviously infitting with the Abbey) but the 'Business centre' did also look dated. Having said that the 'French Reading Room' more than makes up for it - a lovely place to sit and relax, more of a golf and relaxation hotel than for business trips. The grounds are lovely, great to walk along to the lough and on a clear day the view would be gorgeous!

We also dined in the Pullman which was good value and something a little different.

We returned for afternoon tea on the Sunday. Glad we did! Although there wasn't a massive amount, it was enough for us (afternoon tea after all). The sandwiches were lovely and the scones melt-in-your-mouth. Again great tea and coffee and lovely friendly service.

The reception staff really were very nice and couldn't do enough to help.... advising places to park in Galway, where to go, even lending a DVD!

We were a little disappointed there were no tea making facilities - in the room. Ring reception and its dropped to the door!

All in all, this was a great experience, my mum loved it and I felt like I had got an absolute bargain on the citydeal (without being made to feel like a second class citizen which sometimes happens with these things!). Even at full price this would have been a lovely experience. Definitely recommend!

Reception was quick and efficient but perhaps lacked the finesse of a 5 star welcome. The staff in general were quite poor. One would expect quality staff in a five star hotel in Ireland. There is no catering for alternative tastes (i.e. vegetarian). The restaurant menu is limited. The afternoon tea involved cheap brewed coffee, stale sandwiches and a muffin.
A plus was the breakfast which was good along with prompt service. The decor of brass and mahogany attempts to give a polish of superficial elegance. The sound of voices from the next room could be heard clearly, the walls are not sound proof.
Despite the fact that the hotel is situated on 138 acres, the walkway, should you wish to take a stroll, is only a mere two kilometres, until one reaches the lake and can go no further.
There is no gym, or swimming pool.
There is quite an extensive golf course which is well suited to the elderly golf enthusiast.
All in all we have stayed in 3 star hotels in Ireland and Europe which are of higher standard. Would NOT recommend!!

Dear Reviewer, on the contrary to what you suggest in your review: our staff are great and we get lovely comments about them all the time; we have an extensive menu for all 3 of our outlets with vegetarian choices on all; our cheap brewed coffee is Ireland's finest & our scones are looked upon favourably; the bedrooms are sound proofed to a mid 1990's build; dont understand your point about a walk?; you mention, "a golf course which is well suited to the elderly enthusiast"....well I think you've alienated yourself there amongst a large portion of the population.....dont know where youre coming from by that comment?? Anyway, I'm sorry that you didnt reveal your unhappiness while you were here. Maybe we could have changed that unhappiness to happiness!!

My wife and I with two friends have recently enjoyed two wonderful nights in Glenlo Abbey.
From the minute we arrived we knew our break was going to be special.
Maria who promptly booked us in, upgraded our rooms giving us large rooms overlooking Lough Corrib and the Pullman Carriage. Afternoon tea served in the residents lounge overlooking the golf course was very welcome after our three hour trip and did not disappoint.
Our evening meal served in the Pullman Carriage (originally from the Oriental Express) was exceptional and equally good was our meal in the main restaurant the following night.
The breakfast was first class, with an excellent buffet followed by a great cooked full Irish of our choice. The perfect start to our day.
The hotels greatest asset are its exceptional staff (the foods a close second!!!)
Thank you Maria for your generosity when you booked us in, Sandra for looking after us through out our stay (at times we are high maintenance!) , Shane, John and the staff in the restaurant and we can't forget Eamair who made everything run so smoothly and was the perfect hostess (manageress)
We look forward to our return visit.

We had a short but sweet visit to the glenlo hotel recently. It was our wedding anniversary so we wanted something a bit special.
Being from galway we did not want to travel too far for one night so the location was ideal. It really does feel like you are miles away from the city the grounds are so nice and peaceful. All the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and it was just so much more personal than hotels in general nowadays.
We had afternoon tea in a lovely room off the reception and it was delicious with a beautiful view over the golf course .
Our room was lovely with very comfortable bed and very spacious. Maybe a little dated but it suits the whole look and style of the hotel. Even the corridors looked different to the norm with luxurious wallpaper and carpets.
Dinner in the pullman was the best experience and will go back for that alone.
Over all we really enjoyed our stay the hotel has nice character to it !
