“Great location, shame about the basics in the room.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

Me and my boyfriend stayed here on saturday night. The hotel is in a lovely location right by the sea, and we had a room with a balcony with a gorgeous sea view. However, the room had no curtains - just purple net.. which meant in the morning we were woken by bright sunshine and had to use the throw on the bed as a make shift curtain. Secondly the bed's springs had gone, which meant the bed was very uncomfortable and very noisy every time one of us moved. Also, we only had one pillow each, which added to the discomfort. Surely it's obvious that a hotel room should have curtains, a bed with a reasonably comfy mattress and two pillows per person. There was also a whole in the door in the bathroom where it looked like someone had kicked the door - it wouldn't take much for a quick repair job on the door to make it look ok, the hotel basically needs some TLC. If you want a decent night of sleep I wouldn't book here until they have a refurb as we had the worst night of sleep we've had in a while. It's a shame as it could be so nice.

Room Tip: We were in rm 5!

Light, bright and clean. Fabulous location. The view alone is worth staying here for. Staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Music from the function room can be heard but that didn't bother us. We will definitely be coming back.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights for a photography event on the adjoining Dungeness peninsular. The Sandgate was the closet sensibly affordable accommodation. We were comfortable, well looked after and as always only stay at truly motorcycle friendly hotels, something the Sandgate truly is.

Some may remember it featured in one of the early Gordon Ramsays Kitchen Nightmare episodes, I would have to suggest Gordon pop back soon for a refresh. Breakfast was good but our dinner was variable.

Drinks in the front lounge while watching the sun set over the ocean is a feature well worth experiencing. The staff are all friendly and helpful.

The walk into town for other eateries is not that far, so if you, like me aren't a fan of the food you can pop into town quite easily, so I am not going to let the food feature remove from an otherwise really great experience and stay.

Room Tip: If on a motorcycle, try to get a room the same level as the back door, so you don't have to shcl...

Good value for money hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff, great location on the seafront, just a shame that it was on this particular seafront. The hotel is actually a light in what is a very dank area. Room was clean and functional, good supply of brew kit and extra pillows etc. Good bathroom but very thin walls and draughty. Great breakfast and I would certainly stop here again.

Ok so £45 a night, what are you expecting? Bathrooms are a bit tired but clean and everything works. Rooms basic but decent and modern decor. It is a great find for overnight before the tunnel early morning and they even give you a packed breakfast if you're leaving before 8 and its fab!! Staff so friendly. Only minus point is that because it an old building the rooms aren't particularly sound proof. We got woken up at 5am by the guys upstairs leaving but I don't think they were trying to be quiet anyhow! Decent little place, would stay again but walk into town for pubs and dinner, cheaper and nice!! We stayed in room 6.

We have just arrived home from our weekend in Sandgate. We stayed in the Sandgate Hotel and have had a great time.
The hotel staff were excellent, from checking in, evening in the bar and breakfast in the morning all the staff were friendly, helpful and very professional, they all made sure that our stay was a positive one and we will definitely be returning.

We were lucky enough to get a seaview room which was lovely. The rooms are the only thing that scored low with us, only because they are a bit tired - however they are clean and comfortable which is why we have chosen to give it an excellent overall.

The location is great, right on the beachfront and a stones throw away from a few other bars, restaurants and nightlife. The bus stop is right outside so you can easily travel into Folkestone, Canterbury etc

It is great value for money and would have happily stayed on and will be returning.

M20 snow left a choice of sleeping in the car or suffering a premier inn type experience in motorway hotel

We decided to crawl arround the traffic jam and look for a seaside b and b along the coast

The Sandgate was a great find . A late bar, perfect position on the sea front and friendly staff.

Rooms and housekeeping could use some polish but for the price paid, we were delighted
