“Great stay (again)”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

We stayed for the second time in the dog and bear. That can only mean two things, first; it is the only hotel in Kent or second; they did something right at our first stay.
This time we stayed for two nights and again we were not disappointed, we had the same room as the first time (coincidence?) so that was very ok.
Had dinner the firs evening and again no disappointment, we liked it very much.
Also the pub is very cosy and we enjoyed a nice drink after a busy second day.
In short: a good place to stay in a quaint village.

Room Tip: There is no atm machine in the village, so if one wants cash, one has to plan a bit ahead

Stayed for a night with our little dog. Was worried that because we were taking the dog it would be a bit difficult but this hotel was really welcoming. Our room was lovely, fully equipped and furnished to a very high standard. Comfy bed with lovely linen and extra pillows in the wardrobe. Tea and coffee tray fully stocked with high quality refreshments including proper shortbread fingers! Nice modern bathroom well laid out. TV with plenty of channels and wifi. At check in we talked about times of breakfast and I asked what we would do because of having the dog and they said no problem we will make up a table in the bar for you so you can have the dog with you. This turned out to be a lovely quiet private time and the lady looking after us brought biscuit treats for our dog and even asked first if he was allowed them. The breakfast was one of the best full English plates I've had. Really good quality sausages and bacon very nicely presented. Being in the bar we were able to see that this was a Shepherd Neame pub that was proud of its heritage which made us want to explore more and the bar menu looked very good. All in a super stay and highly recommended, will definitely return.

Had a nice stay at this place in a village I had never heard of but was pleasantly surprised by. The rooms were well decorated (if a little on the dark side) and food was good in the restaurant where you can enjoy the restaurant menu or the bar menu. It's resonably priced and nicely served. Breakfast too was good, although with 45 minutes before the end of service they really needed to top up the buffet items- yoghurt, fruits and fruit juices were needed but they clearly didn't intend replenishing at 8.45! The village is small but well worth a look in if you are in the area.

On the plus side the room we had was clean and spacious but very dark - even on sunny days.
The central lighting was inadequate and it would be very difficult to see on a dark winter's day.
The shower was misnamed - it dripped Luke warm water rather than showered but we think this was because we had a room at the end of a run and perhaps other rooms would have had better pressure and supply.

Breakfasts are excellent but smiley, cheerful staff are very thin on the ground and it's a shame because that would make a real difference.dinner was acceptable but again spoiled by sullen service.

In conclusion, it's a functional well situated spot for some sight seeing.

My partner and myself stayed here for a big family wedding.

The room was big, bathroom was nice, modern and cosy and nice and clean.
Breakfast was lovely and fresh.

The only minor complaint I would have was the room was very very warm, and apparently no one mans reception after 11pm.

It was a very cute homely hotel, would defo recommened.

We stayed overnight, after my wifes' school reunion - The evening meal was very good and full English breakfast, first class. Very comfortable in a nicely appointed room. Staff very friendly and helpful, and beer excellent (Shepherd & Neame). The village itself is superb, really 'picture postcard' - especially the fine Church.
One very small fault - the Bathroom/Toilet door catch needs attention as it will not stay closed !
(Room 18)

Room Tip: Try to book a room away from the rear car park, as early departures tend to disturb !

We stayed in the hotel for a friends wedding. It was an excellent location. The room was huge, there were four of us staying in it and there was a big double bed plus four single beds and still plenty of room for all of us to move around. The shower was good, warm and powerful enough. The floors of the room were uneven but thats what you'd expect from an old building and it didn't cause any problems. The breakfast was at a good time, there was a lot of choice and it was all very nice. You could hear the noice from the pub in our room but as we were staying out late it did not matter. Overall i would say this is an excellent hotel.
