“This is what customer service is all about”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

This was our first trip to Chilston Park and was for our wedding anniversary. We had taken advantage of one of Hand Picked's Package offers which included upgraded accommodation, dinner, bottle of champagne and breakfast.
On arrival we were greeted very efficiently and pleasantly. We were advised we had been upgraded further to the Raj room. On arrival in the room we found it to be large with all the amenities but very overpowering due to the amount of and size of some of the furniture - mainly elephants but also a very substantial four poster.
We returned to reception and asked if we could have another room. This was no problem and because of our reason the young lady went through the available rooms to find one more suitable and we were given a choice of five, one in the main house some in the outside buildings. She was very apologetic for the problem. We were shown each by the concierge who was very patient and keen to find one suitable to us. This we did in the main building - Safari. We were asked when we would like the champagne and we chose pre-dinner in the lounge which was no problem. One slight room problem, to the ladies, which appeared to exist in all or most of the rooms we saw (including Safari) - no full length mirror.
After settling in the room we were ready for an afternoon tea/coffee and went to the lounge. We enjoyed very good and friendly service in front of a log fire with complimentary home made biscuits. Full afternoon tea was available and being enjoyed by other guests but we did not wish to spoil our evening meal. The weather was very cold and snowing so we chose not to take the opportunity of enjoying the very extensive grounds other than a quick view of the lake near the main bulidings and its wildlife.
Prior to dinner we started our champagne in the lounge/bar and perused the menu. The waiter enquired if we were celebrating a special occasion and congratulated us on our anniversary. The package dinner was from the a la carte menu and we had been slightly apprehensive as to what might be in it. We need not have worried as it was quite wide and gave us good choices. We made our selection, enjoyed some more champagne and were then requested to move to our table in a warm (two log fire) and pleasant restaurant which like the rest of the buildings had many original and antique features/furniture.On arrival at our table we found a post card of the hotel with more congratulations, hand written. Dinner service was very good and unhurried and provided by a very friendly and efficient team. The food was very good. Our dessert was served on plates with anniversary congratulations piped in chocolate - a lovely touch.
After a night's sleep we enjoyed a very good breakfast with plenty of choice and good service again. We were checked out friendly and efficiently and departed into the snow/rain.
We will undoubtedly return.

We had a wonderful stay at Chilston Park, the staff are attentive, the food was delicious, the room was lovely and the hotel itself is perfect. One of the managers even gave us a brief history on the hotel when we enquired. I would highly recommend a stay at Chilston Park. There's a lot to do a short drive away but we didn't leave the hotel once as all our needs were catered for.

We couldn't fault this venue for our recent family wedding. Our son and his (now) wife had the Coach House Suite and Courtyard. The wedding breakfast was perfect and the staff serving so professional. For those of us staying, our rooms were around the courtyard, all beautifully presented. The exception was an accessible room in the main building and the suite the bride and groom stayed in which was bigger than their flat! - we all had to go and have a look the next day. Breakfast was buffet style and very relaxed for the 50 odd of us who stayed over. The building itself and all the public rooms are beautiful and had it not been blowing a gale with very unseasonable temperatures I know the grounds would have been lovely to wander around. It was a really perfect day!

We stayed on a Sunday night through Secret Escapes. I would recommend for a special occasion. We were really made to feel like Lord and Lady of the Manor.

Cannot fault the staff in any way. Everyone was delightful. We had a lovely character room with views over the lake. Lovely dining room. Open fires. Fab food. Great breakfast. What a driveway! We liked the classical music in the background. Added to the atmosphere. Would love to stay again.

A huge special thank you to the manager Gareth and his wonderful team who made our stay so extra special.

Room Tip: We stayed in "Gilt" feature room in the manor house. It overlooks the lake. Delightful.

We spend a January one night stop over here with friends for a birthday celebration.
Plus's: Lovely surroundings, helpful and friendly staff in the main, resturant nice and food good. Mid week stay so price with all the extras - champagne and canopies, dinner and accomodation was a bargin.
-ve: THE MUSIC!!! opera on a loop the whole time - something else is needed! The place was somewhat empty so lacked much life. Breakfast took an age to arrive ( the kippers apparently) and staff not a friendly as the evening. Accomation best in the main house - the annex rooms are lovely but the ones we stayed in you could hear the people below and they you above.
Not much do to do unless you want to walk - which was tough going in the snow in January.

Room Tip: Stay in the main house

Dear Guest
Thank you for your review. I am pleased that you enjoyed your visit overall and found our midweek offer to be of good value. January is traditionally a quieter time of the year for the hotel and I am sorry the ambience was somewhat lacking due to this, naturally I would also have welcomed more guests to the hotel, especially as our midweek offer was so attractive!

We will of course do our best to improve upon the aspects of the stay that you have mentioned as requiring improvement, thank you for bring these areas to my attention.

I do hope that you will choose to visit us again, maybe in the warmer months when snow should not hamper your ability to explore the surrounding area.
Best wishes

My partner and I stayed at Chilstern park for a friends wedding. I was impressed at how lovely the hotel was and the surroundings were beautiful. Although our early check in wasn't quite ready this was overlooked as the staff went out of there way to see to our every needs. We were welcomed and acknowledged by every member of staff. I would highly recommend Chilstern hotel to anyone wanting a first class service and quality accommodation.
