“Excellent value!”
Reviewed October 2, 2011

Spent one night at the Hoilday Inn Express at Minister. For a budget hotel it really had everthing that was needed and was of a quality that many more expensive hotels we have stayed in, have lacked. The room was a good size, had a separate couch. Air conditioning worked well (had to slide the switch to set it, with one of our keys, as the knob had broken, but once it was done it worked fine). Thermostatically controlled shower (and it was one that could be hand held- ie not a fixed shower.) The buffet breakfast was more than adequate. Room was clean, bed comfortable and the choice of a soft or firm pillow is very welcome. Staff at the check in and out were pleasant. We could have eaten in the hotel at night, but chose to walk to the Smugglers Retreat pub / restaurant about 100m away on the same site, (there is also a Premier Inn on the site), and had a very good pub meal. Ok the hotel is not a picturesque place to stay in during the day, being right on a road junction (but we heard no road noise), but as an overnight stop, business trip or a base for touring would be ideal. Would definitely return. It is not that far from the ferry ports and is a good stopover.

We have stayed over night here twice.I would say the check in and check out is very quick.
Excellent late night service we were able to get drinks very late after returning to the hotel.verycomfortable beds.Breakfast not bad as there is a lot of choice, only complaint would be that the orange juice is very watered down .
All in all a fairly good hotel with helpful staff, would stay again.

Stayed here for two nights as a family of four, paid just over £100 for the two nights which included a free breakfast.

Location wise on the outskirts of Ramsgate by the airport, no noise from airport as it is not busy.

Check in was efficient and friendy, room on the small side but double bed for us and a sofa bed for the kids. TV was normal channels or you could pay extra for the internet/films. Walk in shower and toilet, no bath. Room overlooked waste land. Room and bathroom was very clean. We did not smell any smoke.

Breakfast was fine for free!, there was scrambled egg, sausages, beans, toast, cereals, croissants, tea, coffee, juices, fruit. It was hot and replenished frequently, not sure how people can complain when you are getting it for free. Over the road in the travel inn they wanted £8.99 per person for breakfast. We never ate in the restaurant, there is a also the smugglers inn pub across the road if you want to eat. Or you can walk into Minster village about 15 mins walk where there are a couple of pubs and restaurants, takeaways. Small train station.

Hotel was great for the price, very quiet at night, and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Get into breakfast early before 8am as it does get busy!

Convenient location for exploring Thanet, etc. Breakfast was free and OK but limited in choice. We booked well in advance and paid about £90 for 2 nights. Make sure you ask for a quiet room as the ones at the front must be affected by road noise. The nearby airport is not a problem as very, very few flights. Bar has a very limited range of drinks (eg: only Bells whisky) but I guess the ambience (it's a bit plain and clinical) would put you off staying long. Rooms were very good and well presented with all the essentials but no bath, just a (very good) shower. Staff were efficent and friendly

Room Tip: ask for a quiet one to avoid road noise

Booked and paid in advance for a wheelchair accessible room, with interconnecting room for carers. Upon arrival, confirmed that rooms were interconnecting with receptionist, to find that room cards had not been activated and that rooms were four doors apart when going up to allocated corridor, which incidentally stank of smoke throughout our 2 day stay and had a broken ceiling light near our room entrance. Returned to reception to be told that the room we had been promised had recently been allocated to someone else; receptionist did not know what to do, so asked the manager - she directed that the receptionist ask the couple in the carers room if they would swap to another room, which they knidly agreed to do; neither they nor us should have been put in that position. The receptionist apologised, but the manager did not. The room was basic, but I would not recommend that those in wheelchairs accept that claims of accessibility are to be believed, unless you are happy with cramped conditions. additionally, some of the soap dispensers were empty. To compound matters, breakfast was dismal, with limited choice, watered-down orange juice, rubbery sausages and cold beans; the croissant was so hard it could have dislodged a loose tooth. Upon showering in the disabled room prior to leaving, it became apparent that a cleaner had already started to clean the adjoining carers room - when confronted to ask what he was doing, he did not seem to understand English. This was mentioned to reception staff on checking out, but the receptionist did not know what to do or say and asked that we speak to the manager - they also tried to charge an additional £87.60, even though we had already paid in full by a third party (Hotels.com) - the manager had to show the receptionist how to change the charging screen, and acknowledged we had paid, but did not apologise, so it seemed pointless waiting for an apology for the cleaner entering the adjoining carers room before our departure. The hotel was dreary from the outside and in the corridor, and overall the staff were inefficient and led by a rude and unwelcoming manager...clearly more person-centred skills needed by a customer-interfacing team!

Room Tip: Do not assume that you will be allocated interconnecting rooms even if you have paid in advance for...

The outside of this hotel is rather bleak and ugly but inside are the usual comforts of a Holiday Inn Express and the staff were welcoming and helpful. We reguarly use Holiday Inn Express because with a large family of five children you need to get "what it says on the tin" and they always provide this with spotless rooms, great staff and a suitable help yourself breakfast all within a reasonable price. We had two adjoining rooms and it was ideal for us. Holiday Inn Express have really got it right if you're not expecting the world but want a clean and comfortable stop over and this hotel was excellent for that.

Art deco style hotel in the middle of nowhere. The exterior appearance does not match the interior. In fact, you can be shocked when you go inside the hotel and feel like in an oasis. Rooms are clean and the staff was helpful when we asked to swap our non-smoking room as the next door room neighbour was actually smoking.
A cot was provided for our 3 months old baby as requested but blankets were available in the whole. They actually placed a towel on top of the cot. However, staff was kind enough to give a single duvet to cover junior…we ended up using our own cellular blanket.
Unfortunately, the breakfast was hopeless. Frozen croissants heat up in the microwave....we all know they get rock hard when they cool down!!! No fruit….

Overall, we had a pleasant stay, especially when we paid only £49 with one day notice when we booked it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the back of the hotel as the road could be very noisy.
