We arrived by train and had a pleasant stroll through the village at 9.00 pm on a beautiful warm evening, no sound apart from singing birds and a cuckoo, great excitement! Very friendly welcome from Nicky who explained the ingenious breakfast cupboard on the landing outside the room. Filter coffee for the morning is provided with instant, hot chocolate or tea for other times but she brought the jar of filter coffee for us immediately we mentioned we didn't usually drink instant. Fantastic power shower with lots of hot water, nice towels. Breakfast works well in the room, with plentiful provision of rolls, muffins and croissants, butter and preserves, cereals, coffee and tea with fresh milk, not little sachets. The only thing that would have improved the breakfast would have been a little microwave for warm milk in the coffee but that really is a minor point. We had the four poster bed with windows on three sides so beautifully light and airy. I slept like a top but my husband found the mattress a little soft for his poor back - mattresses are a very subjective item and others may prefer it. It felt odd to just leave in the morning, having settled up on arrival, because it was such a friendly place to stay.
