This was our fourth visit to Ash House at Ash near Martock. We received a warm welcome from Gordon and his staff and as always, we felt we were at a private house party. The food was delicious, the beds very comfortable and lovely white linen and bathrobes. Despite the weather being wet, we enjoyed visiting the local villages and towns around Dorset and Somerset and to return to the hotel for tea. Then a G&T in the bar with a roaring fire before a super dinner - Great Chef. A lovely few days and a great way to spend a Birthday.

We came to Ash House for my birthday weekend and just fell in love with the place. The welcome from Gordon and his staff made us feel at home. It is so personal they almost make you feel as if you are staying in the house as a friend! The food and wine were reasonably priced and simply outstanding. We ate in the restaurant both nights as we were so impressed! Breakfast is also wonderful with a vast array of tasty cereals, local produce and wonderful full english or variations thereafter, nothing was a hassle. The hotel is reminiscent of an elegant manor house/hunting lodge. Gordon is slowly renovating the entire house so if you are very picky there are parts of the house that look a little tired. But ALL the important things are so so very right. Beautiful crisp linen sheets, fluffy white towels, dressing gowns, complimentary slippers, crazy-good food and a warm welcome. Totally recommend. We will visit here again and I have no doubt once he has finished his refurbishment and word spreads more about this boutique gem and stunning restaurant, this hotel will be booked out long in advance.

We decided on Ash House as a convenient journey break from London en route to a classic car weekend and extended holiday in Cornwall but for a variety of reasons we left the old girl at home and travelled in a modern car. We were so glad we did because Cornish roads proved far from ideal for a big old car with no power steering.
And what a find Ash House was! It is very conveniently located for the A303 and other routes while the immediate area is simply plastered with country houses and gardens to visit. We managed to cram in Montacute House and Barrington Court - and there are lots more if staying longer in this lovely area.
Based on our experince of the first night's stay we made sure to book for the return leg. So what has Ash House got that makes it worth calling by? Apart from the location, this is a charming Queen Anne House set in its own secluded gardens. Mein Host is the genial Gordon who greeted us in reception and led us to our spacious rooms on each occasion. The rooms are simply furnished and decorated but lack nothing in modern amenities and comforts - although the TV was on the blink on our second night. That we can live with.
We dined one night in the formal dining room and one night in the Orangery where breakfast is also taken. Food on both occasions was of a high standard and the servers proved friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is outstanding - quite the best of four hotels stayed in over our 10 day tour of Cornwall. Ash House is certainly waiving the flag for Somerset. The local bacon was simply delicious and the black pudding albeit from Scotland so good that we asked for the name of the supplier.
And so Ash House proved the unexpectedly perfect start and finish to a welcome break of culture, gastronomy and classic cars. Now back to reality - and a diet!

We stayed for a short break to escape for 3 days. We chose Ash house because it was a hotel that included breakfast for a reasonable price and had a restaurant to allow us to eat in with some wine without worrying about who was driving home.
We were not disappointed!
The hotel we would describe as having the flavour of a period home, but with all the up to date comforts. It is set in beautiful grounds and the attention to detail is second to none.
Everything is sourced locally from the produce to the crockery.
All the staff are very welcoming and every room is well stocked and immaculate.
Every morning our beds were made and tea, coffee, and local bottled water all replenished, with a nice little touch of biscuits. There is a fridge outside the rooms for you to take fresh milk as required - no long life packets!
The food is outstanding in the restaurant and the breakfasts consists of cereal, fresh fruit, croissants followed by a full English! Everything is cooked to order and they are happy to adjust to personal requirements, nothing was too much trouble!
Gordon is the owner and truly cares about his business - a top bloke!
Totally recommend - we will be going back!

We stayed at Ash House for 3 nights at the end of September. We loved our very comfortable room, which included the best bathrobes...good quality bed linen & lots of little extras that made our stay the best we had throughout the UK!.....the food in the restaurant was amazing!....I took photos, we were so impressed with the quality & presentation...5 star....breakfast included was great!....Gordon is very attentive, & his experience as an event coordinator in the past, has helped make this a cut above!...the ladies in both reception & in the restaurant looked after us beautifully....we were a day ahead of ourselves...we went to check out & realised we had a night to spare before we needed to be in London....thankfully we were able to stay a third night!.....we enjoyed meeting Gordon's dog too!......

My wife and I have just stayed for 2 nights at Ash House Hotel , we had a very pleasant weekend for our wedding anniversary .
We booked a 2 night full board superior room , with a complementary bottle of champagne!
We stayed in Ambrosia , a large room with windows looking out over the side carpark and hills beyond, we had the window slightly open at night , absolutely no problems with noise , there was none. The 6ft wide bed (2 x 3ft single beds together, but you could no fell the join) was one of the most comfortable i have slept in for a long time, huge puffy quilt , no chance of getting cold.
We ate in the resturant both nights , the food was excellent , very good quality ingredients , generous portions and wonderful flavours . Both meals were the best we have eaten for a long time and very well priced . We had a bottle of red wine " la chamiza 2011 Malbec " from Argentina it was delicious , one we shall look for again. Breakfasts were also very good quality , cereal , croissant , toast and any cooked combination you wanted.
The owners and all their staff were very friendly , helpful and attentantive , but never intrusive and always available if you needed them.
We popped our heads in a couple of the other rooms and they all looked very comfy and well euipped.
Overall a very enjoyable expereince and would thoroughly recommend.
