Wivelliscombe is a lovely little town (pop. 2600) in Somerset near Exmoor. The White Hart does excellent food, has a lovely pub, strong free WiFi, good service, and comfortable clean rooms. Plenty of hot water and towels.

All of this for half the price of the Travelodge.

This is a lovely country hotel and like other reviewers we felt that the food was excellent. The staff are also very good. If you are looking for a stop off the M5 motorway for a single night then make sure that you account for the 15-20mins each way to this location. However, the mix of great food, good room and overall ambience made this a lovely stopover for us.

We booked a room here at the last minute via laterooms website. It was £45 for a double room, I didn't expect very much more than a basic room although it was a bonus to have breakfast included.
When we arrived, which was late evening, we received a friendly greeting by the chap on reception who showed us to our room, all very good customer service which counts for a lot. The room was larger than expected and the bathroom was fantastic, this was much higher grade than basic! The bed was quite firm which can be a problem for some but then everyone prefers different. Breakfast was more than adequate, it wasn't a case of eat what you're given. We were actually asked for our preferences with the cooked breakfast and also cereal and decent coffee available. Definitely worth a visit and excellent value for money. It is above a pub so if you are one for going to bed at 10pm, I can imagine Friday or Saturday nights would be quite noisy but then you may want to have a few drinks first to help you nod off!!
Well done to the staff and management - excellent customer service.

The staff at the White Hart were genuinely friendly and very helpful, putting an extra bed for my niece in our room. A very central location opposite shops etc. Nice, clean room with very comfy beds and a delicious breakfast cooked to order...all at an excellent price. Will definitely be going back when visiting Wiveliscombe again.

A very friendly and easy check in on arrival. The room was very clean and well equipped with a very comfortable bed. There was a nice shower room with complimentary toiletries.
Dinner was excellent really good portions of very tasty homecooked food.
Bar prices were reasonable and there was a good selection of well kept ales.
Breakfast was also very well cooked and check out was quick and efficient.
Will definately stay if I am in this area on business again.

We were camping in Devon, and the 50+ mph winds and blown down tents meant we decided to duck out a day early. Not wanting to cut my holiday short, I tried to find a hotel on the way home so we could have a hot shower and extend our trip. Trying to book on my mobile through www.booking.com didn't work, and the price on that site was cheaper than the White Hart website. I rang up and they very kindly offered me the cheaper price room, plus excellent directions to get there from the M5.

When we arrived the staff were helpful and friendly, showing us where to park and chatting about the local area.

Unfortuantely when it came to dinner time there was a problem in the kitchen which they explained and apologised for (which was no trouble for us), and they told us where else we could eat. We loved the look of the "North African and Mediterranean" food place across the way but it was pizza night, so on the advice of locals went to the local curry place, which was very good (even though it looks a bit sparse inside). There's a friendly Spar next door, a nice butchers across the way and a couple of shops but not much in the town to see.

The room was serviceable with everything we needed (including proper MUGS for tea). Bed was firm but comfy, shower warm if not particularly powerful, and a good amount of space. The stairs up to our room (2nd floor) were quite steep, and I kept falling over the small step into the bathroom (but I guess thats my fault!). The road was a little noisy, but the double glazing kept much of it out.

Breakfast was good in the morning and we enjoyed our stay.

The rooms are very basic, but fine for a short stay if you're looking for a cheap place to stay. On the night we went, we arrived back after our meal to find a live (and very loud) band playing at the bar beneath the rooms! Whilst we were happy to sit and listen with a drink, when we did go upstairs the band was clearly audible (and we were 3 floors up!) and they didn't finish till 11.30pm! Staff were lovely, breakfast was excellent but perhaps steer clear at the weekends if you're looking for an early night. Also note of warning - the carpark is horrific to get into, but there is a free one just down the street which is much nicer.
Would definetely not have paid full price for this as at £75 would expect something a little nicer, but was told not to worry about getting out by 11am as our rooms weren't needed the next night which was good!

Room Tip: Higher up keeps you away from the bar noises at the weekends
