We have been coming here for many years usually twice a month for a meal and my husband pops in for a drink around 3 times a week, and Im sad to say this lovely place is Going downhill. It's such a lovely building we have some very fond memories over the years and have seen new faces come and go, but this time it comes down to the new owners (if ever around!!). The poor staff are running around like headless chickens usually one on a shift at a time, at times we have waited 15 minutes to be even noticed standing at the bar whilst the staff will be waitering as well as answering phone, serving both sides of the bar etc etc, who's in charge?. The food is still good but what's the point if you can't get served, allot of locals we know have said the same, also the standard of cleanliness has dropped it's just surface cleaned very quickly I imagine, We just want to see the place running properly Greene king need to offer some management training before allowing anyone in there pubs

myself and my partner stayed at the weekend as was attending a wedding the next day in nearby bury st edmunds.
Upon arriving we were greated by a friendly and well presented member of staff who showed us round the room despite having a packed out bar and restaurant at the time
The room was very clean and spacious and we were informed that it had recently been refurbished.
We went down for some lunch and had to wait a few minutes till a table was free but this is by no means a complaint as its always better to et somewhere thats busy!!
I had a pizza while my partner had nachos. both were cooked fresh and tasted amazing!! the pizza was better than most resturants i have been to and i tried some nachos which were like none i have had before!
At night they had karaoke in the bar which was great fun and the locals were all really friendly.drinks prices were very resonable and the service was very quick. The beer was also of top quality...i had a few!
We went up to bed at about 11 and was worried that we would be kept up by the continuing karaoke session, however we could barely hear anything!
Breakfast was great, we had a full english each to prepare us for the day ahead and coffee was served fresh from 7am
All in all a fantastic stay at a very friendly b&b. have rebooked for christmas when we return to see the newly weds.

I must start this review by stating that we were not charged for the terrible stay we had at the Pykkerell, but I am writing it to save other people the discomfort we suffered.

I booked 2 double rooms for two nights to stay here as it was close to where family were holding a celebration. It's not a cheap place to stay, £95 per room per night, so I was in no way prepared for the shambles that was the one night we stayed.

On arrival we had to seek out someone to show us our rooms, we got the feeling that we were a bit of an inconvenience, but the person turned on our radiators to warm the rooms. The rooms themselves were dark and gloomy, a mix of energy saving light bulbs and a tired old building to blame for that. My daughter's room was a bit lighter than ours as she had a light shade missing! Our room was a large room, daughter's a bit smaller.

First thing we found was that the bins in our room hadn't been emptied, particularly nasty as the bathroom bin had been used. Daughter's sink was full of hairs. I asked the manager to sort this out, he was very apologetic, and eventually (after he had been to the shop to buy bin liners!) he came up and emptied the bins, and also cleaned the sink. My daughter asked if she oculd have some hand soap, he replied that they do not supply it (even though there was an almost empty bottle in our room) as it just got stolen and cost too much.

We went out for the evening, and came back before midnight. Absolutely no chance of sleep, as there was karaoke going on in the bar till nearly 1 am. At that time I also discovered a half pack of chewing gum down the side of the bed, and what looked like a lump of food at the other side of the bed. The bed was very uncomfortable and had seen better days. The toilet wasn't a normal flush toilet, but an electric one, which did not do a very good job, and also kept on masserating at odd intervals in the night. Someone tried to get into daughter's room in the night, and it was only the fact that she had left her key in the lock that prevented her having unwanted company

In the morning I took a shower and had a very difficult time getting wet, as the shower jets were all bunged up with limescale. My daughter then came into our room carrying a black lacy thong which she had found on her radiator (remember the one the lady had turned on for us when showing us the room, how had she missed that?). Looking round properly, the toilet brush was disgusting and there was a thick layer of dust on the slate hearth.

We told the manager about this, and he apologised again, and said the place was having a refit, and that our rooms hadn't been done yet. He said we would not be charged for the night. We had already decided we wouldn't be staying the second night, and once we had found somewhere, a lovely B&B in the next village we told him we were leaving.

Room Tip: find somewhere else to stay

We got take-out pizza on 'pizza night' and it was truly the most horrrible thing we've ever eaten! A thin and probably shop bought base, thin red sauce which had a dreadful metallic taste to it, really cheap nasty little cubes of processed "meat" on top!

As a local I popped in the next day to mention how disappointing it was only to be met with a casual 'oh sorry'.

Furthermore, having been here a few times for Sunday lunch, evening meal (mainly just because it's convenient on certain occasions) we've found the welcome to be non-existant and the food (not including the pizza) to be generally average at best - there's not much love or attention put into anything here and the people running it just don't seem to be cut out for hospitality......there's never a smile or a sense of welcome from the owners (some of the staff are quite pleasant but that's not enough).

We stayed here for a Saturday night as our son was getting married at the nearby Sapiston Mill.
We arrived quite early - about 11:30 a.m. - but had immediate access to our room; invaluable for getting ready for the ceremony. The room was clean, spacious and with all the facilities one would expect.
We didn't have an evening meal there so cannot comment on the food. The breakfast, however, was fine. There is free WiFi but it was quite slow.
All staff were friendly and helpful and, although we were only there for a short while, we did enjoy our stay. It was a touch expensive at £85/night but we would probably stay there again if we need accommodation in the area.
