My husband and I stayed at Burpham Country House for a night at the weekend, just to get away from home. The hotel had a lovely country house feel to it, luxurious in a way but not pretentious or too big. The room was really pleasant, the only bugbear was for that price it was a shame not to have a bath in our ensuite, only a shower. Only one of the rooms has a bath and ours wasn't it! It was a really pleasant place to be though, with lovely gardens and dining rooms. Breakfast, included in the room price, was OK but not amazing - one of each of the traditional English breakfast type thing. There were no loud people, children or dogs and it was a lovely, peaceful retreat in beautiful surroundings. We chose to eat at the local pub rather than the hotel restaurant; the food at the pub was superb but I suspect that the food at the hotel was jut as good - it looked great but we wanted to go out for the evening.

A small correction to this review, which indicates that only one room has a bath.

We have rooms with baths in each category of room, from standard through to luxury, so four of our 10 rooms have baths as well as showers.

Ultimate relaxing weekend away. We were greated by warm and friendly staff, and a smiley fat, black and white cat. The food is fantastic. The breakfasts generous and all produce of the highest standards. Guests also have use of a comfortable lounge, and the garden. We're planning on bringing my in laws here for a weekend away and will be recommending this hotel to friends and family.

This is a lovely old house and very relaxed but we felt it lacked the little extras that would have made it special. The food was good but there wasn't enough, and I still felt hungry after 2 courses of dinner. The breakfasts were a bit unexciting and there weren't newspapers or offers of more toast/tea etc. The fire is a flame effect one when it should have been a roaring log fire, the furniture in the bedrooms was cheap and the drawers stuck. It could have been so much better. The surrounding countryside is gorgeous and the bed was comfortable.

we stayed 2 nights with dinner.
The hotel was clean, friendly and comfortable and good value for a luxurious country service. The room was great. (2nd floor, side) bathroom was modern and tidy -either a bit atticky with a slopey roof or with all the character of an old building, you choose. All the food was obviously cooked thoughtfully and the cook (1/2 of owning couple) was obviously capable and keen to get informal feedback and happy to engage in entertaining chat. (delighted to do a different special veggie main course for my wife on night 2)
Just a friendly and efficient service all round. I'd go back if I was in the area again.

Theres loads of walks in the area. They lent us an OS map for the duration. Its a pleasant old village a couple of miles from arundel. with a medieval church.

We stayed here at the end of July for two nights and our only regret about the booking was that we wished we'd booked for longer. As soon as you turn off the main road to Arundel and wind your way down to the picture book perfect village of Burpham you can feel your cares and worries slipping away. This place is an absolute treat, the welcome warm, the rooms cosy and inviting and the food delicious. The peace and quiet is also amazing - all that woke us up in morning was a coo-ing bird and some buzzing bees! Staying here really is like being in your own home (albeit quite a posh home), you relax totally from the moment you arrive and someone else does all the hard work for you, nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with a smile. I've always wanted to find a place like this, a hideaway - but a hideaway with fabulous food, great wines and lovely, friendly service. We arrived two stressed out Londoners and left giggling like a pair of teenagers and ready to take the world on again. Looking forward to going back.

My wife and I stayed at this delightful country house hotel for three nights. I was walking with crutches following an operation but was able to negotiate all public areas without difficulty.

The rooms are very tastefully decorated which adds to the tranquility of the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners and we were at ease from the moment we arrived.

The cooked breakfasts were a delight and even the toast was special as the bread was baked in-house. We also enjoyed the evening meals very much , choosing from the varied menu for the duration of our stay.

We would recommend this hotel for anyone seeking peace, lovely countryside, excellent food and the special care and attention we received.
