“Great place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013

We spent one night there in February. We were made to feel incredibly welcome and had come with our 1 year old daughter.

We stayed in room 10 on the ground floor (as suggested) which allowed us to use the baby monitor and have dinner and a drink in the lounge, no problem at all. They provided us with an excellent travel cot as well.

Location is great and you can start walking on the downs directly from there (as we did). There is a nice looking pub in the village although it was shut at 5pm on a Saturday (what?) but the hotel has a nice little well stocked bar so no problem.

Food was a real highlight, dinner and breakfast were excellent, (dinner was top restaurant quality).

All in all, a great stay.

We stayed here while visiting the Arundel Festival and would recommend it. Unfortunately we didn't manage to dine here in the evenings but the breakfasts were absolutely excellent. First class ingredients beautifully cooked. There is a hint that Fawlty Towers may be lurking in the background but we like individual hotels.

The owners of this beautiful house make you so welcome that you feel as if you've known them for years. Even the two cats make you feel welcome. The rooms, are lovely, we were in No. 5 our friends in No. 7 and we all had a very good nights sleep, the beds are very comfortable. There is lounge where guests can use the well stocked bar on an 'honesty basis' (the late night brandy may have helped with the sleep!) - the dining area extends into the conservatory and is bright and cheerful and overlooks the lovely grounds.

Breakfast was freshly cooked and very good, our friend is a celiac and was easily catered for.

In the village of Burpham there is a very good pub where we had lunch and there are good walks around the area, Arundel is only about three miles away.

We would have no hesitation in staying here again.

We were three couples travelling with our elderly mother and selected Burpham for our weekend together as it was close to the friends we were visiting on Saturday. It is a charming village just a couple of miles outside Arundel nestled below the South Downs with a network of streams feeding the Arun river. We had dinner at the nearby pub on Friday and in the hotel on Saturday night.
This converted rectory is smaller than many country house hotels but that was definitely part of its charm. We did not use the garden but it was very attractive with plenty of outdoor seating. Our room was large with a four-poster bed, beautiful window with window seat and enough seating for eight people. Everything was clean and worked well although at this price I would possibly have expected a bath as well as a shower.
We ate all our meals in the conservatory which was light and airy with enough heating to be comfortable even in November. Breakfast was enormous and very tasty - there was a small buffet for cereals and juice but most of the food was cooked to order.
The dinner menu was quite short as you would expect for a small restaurant but the portions were generous and we all enjoyed what we had chosen. The partridge with wild mushrooms really was a 'taste of autumn' and was our favourite dish.
Service in the hotel was very friendly and Jackie and Steve worked really hard to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Several of the other guests were regular visitors which is always a good sign and I too would be pleased to return.

Burpham Country House Hotel has a special place in our hearts as it's where we got married. We returned this weekend to celebrate our anniversary and had an amazing time as always. Jackie and Steve are wonderful hosts, the food was delicious as always (we particularly love Steve's smoked mackerel mousse and treacle tart!) and we had the best night's sleep we've had in a long time. If you want somewhere to completely unwind and forget about the stresses of 21st century life, then Burpham is the ideal place to do it!

Room Tip: We stayed in room no 6 which has lovely views over the Downs - highly recommended!

Lovely atmosphere and a talented self-taught chef/proprietor. Generally a pleasant stay although hotel a little dog-eared in places and parking is a problem.
There is an honesty bar which is fine although I thought £8 for a double Three Barrells Brandy was rather steep particularly as it wasn't 'served'. You can buy a litre of Three Barrells for £22 which makes for £138 profit on a litre, perhaps a little steep when no service is involved.

A beautiful house with lovely rooms that are well looked after with everything we needed. Stayed for one night, but would definitely return when warmer to take advantage of the gardens and restaurant. The breakfast was great with plenty of choice. Gorgeous friendly cats and local pub (5 minutes walking distance) that served food. Great location with Arundel, Sussex coast and South Downs nearby. A very relaxed atmosphere. Hosts were perfect.

Room Tip: Standard doubles - room 4 was my favourite!
