Nice relaxing hotel to spend a few days, The rooms are large, bright, clean and warm.
The huge portions of home cooked food are served in a nice bar that has real fires for those chilly nights. Good to sit by the fire with a large Bushmills watching the rain. Breakfast is really good to, nice to get Potato cakes with the full Irish.
The only criticism is location, no problem if you are happy to eat in the hotel (and the food is good so why not) but there is nothing else much for a good few miles round the place.

I'm not sure where to begin with a hotel this bad.

We were looking for a hotel where we could bring our dog - for some reason, much harder to find in Northern Ireland than in the Republic. After an idyllic week around the coast of Ireland, this place was a terrble shock to the system.

This hotel wasn't even particularly cheap, and was very pooor value for money. But frankly, I think the hotel management should be paying their guests to stay in this dump.

Perhaps we should start with the food - the menu was trapped in 1974. I think the peas may have been of the same vintage. The meals all seemed to have been microwaved from frozen, and of the lowest quality. Truly dreadful.

The accommodation was in two single-story blocks facing each other, which called to mind military barracks, but without the charm or interior design flair.

The room... the room was an ideal spot for a suicide - flickering flourescent lighting adding to the "scene of the crime"ambiance. The bathroom was large with a decidedly institutional feel, and particularly nasty old linoleum on the floor. There were two large beds with musty drab candlewick counterpanes, and horrible polyester sheets.

The staff were as charmless as the hotel itself.

The only good thing I could say about this place is that it was clean.

Even our dog couldn't wait to leave.....

I know this review is a little out-of-date, and I sincerely hope that things have changed, but it's taken me this long to get over the trauma of my stay there.

Well....Mr Chucklers stayed here about 13 years ago on a stag night so didn't have too many preconceptions!
This time around it was the day after Mr & Mrs Chucklers became the 'Chucklers' officially! Wedding was in the City Hall, Belfast, followed by the Merchant Hotel (see previous reviews).
Anyway, because our honeymoon was not possible until July, our good friends had organised a weekend away for us at the BT.

On arrival our welcome was very friendly, and we took advantage of the beautiful weather outside on the sun terrace. After a few drinks we moved inside to have a bite to eat - excellent!!!!!!!
The service matched the food in being second to none.

Now, in fairness the golf course was not in the best of condition.....don't come here just for golf!

The accomodation is also basic....but....clean and the rooms are very big!!

Breakfast is superb! You will not beat the fry on offer here!

On the Saturday night we all had a fantastic meal in the restaurant - food was magnificent and the service equally great!

In summary, we would highly recommend the Brown Trout, not for its finesse but more for the friendly service, great food and a great location to explore the North West
