“Winter Wonderland”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

The way life was meant to be lived. We once again returned to what we believe is the best holiday venue in the world. The Family Schnoll-Reichl continues to set forth an environment that combines peaceful surroundings, delightful staff, high quality accomodations and quite possibly the finest breakfast on the Continent. Herr Klaus and Frau Barbara are genuinely the kindness most accomodating people we have ever met. No request is too difficult , no question unanswered. Tanyia the receptionist and Irena the hostess are very special and add even more to the elegance , civility and comfort that one experiences in Grodig at the Hotel Sallerhof. The day we arrive is a happy day but unfortunately the day we have to leave is always bittersweet, What a magnificent place.!!

My wife and I stayed at the Sallerhof from 12/28/12 - 1/1/13. We enjoyed staying in the village a bit removed from Salzburg since it was fairly easy to get in and out with Bus #25. If you read the previous reviews you'll get the general sense of the hotel - clean, well-organized, friendly. We stayed in room #24 which had a really great view of Mount Untersberg from a small balcony. There is a small common vending area that has snacks and a coffee machine (I really enjoyed the Stiegl from the vending machine). I thought the coffee vending machine was overpriced for the volume - a minor issue. Room was comfortable and cleaned daily. We visited a couple of local restaurants that we really enjoyed (Racklwirt and the chinese restaurant). If one minor negative, the decor in the common areas could use some "warming up" (I hope that translates). It might be a nice place to sit and converse with other guests if it were more inviting. I would recommend this hotel to others and would definitely stay here again if in the Grodig area.

Room Tip: Room #24 has a great view of Mount Untersberg.

I was looking at Google Earth and planning where to stay on our visit to Salzburg. I wanted to visit the Untesberg, the Konigsee, the High Mountain Road, The Hohe Tauern, the salt mines and other wonderful natural scenic wonders. So I was looking for a nice quiet place outside Salzburd and chanced upon this lovely little family run Hotel.
We got a two bedroom place, with a nice huge three bed room and an adjoining childrens room with two bunk beds.
The Sound of Music was playing on the Televison, there was free wifi and car parking, and an excellent buffet breakfast spread.
This Hotel was a great choice, and the Untesberg was just 5 minutes drive away.
I would strongly recommend visiting this lovely little place. You will carry pleasant memories with you for a lifetime.

Room Tip: Family room ideal for a family of five. Cash discounts available.

Thank you very much for your review!
We are glad that you and your family enjoyed your stay with us so much! The two bedroom apartements are very popular with families, especially the ones with the bunk beds for the kids.
If you ever want to come back to the area to enjoy the various sides that Salzburg is offering, we would be glad to welcome you back with us!

We arrived a little than we planned (poor weather) and the receptionist seemed a little irked that we didn't let him know we'd be late. Luckily, his sour welcome didn't hinder our stay. As my dad is handicapped, I requested a room near the elevator. The room was very nice and perfect for three people. The single bed was comfortable, but my parents said their bed was very hard and somewhat difficult to get in and out of. The view from our room was fantastic and even had a little deck.

Breakfast in the morning was excellent and one of the best I've had since I've been in Europe—such a wonderful spread of local and organic products; everything you could want for a European breakfast was there: fresh sliced meats and cheese, yogurts and toppings, cereals, pastries and breads, fruit, variety juices, and coffee, of course (I know I'm missing things, because it was a very large selection). I also appreciated that they had their own covered parking area.

When I booked I requested to take The Sound of Music Tour while we were there and was told we could sign up the night we arrived. I was apprehensive about signing up a mere few hours before we wanted to take the tour, but it worked out just great. They picked us up at the hotel (NOTE: the price does not include a ride back, but includes a public bus to come back to the hotel) and took us directly to the tour bus in the city, which was perfect! We were on a time crunch and ended up taking a cab back to the hotel instead of using the provided bus ticket.

I will stay here again when I return to Salzburg.

We are happy that you enjoyed your stay with us and had a nice holiday!
We are very proud of our breakfast and the spread and glad that you liked it so much.

As for your late arrival- we did not itend to seem irked and gladly you did not take it the wrong way. We do not have a night receptionist and therefore the check-in is only available between 1 and 8 p.m. which we try to communicate as clearly as possible in the reservation form. We make many exceptions (e.g. with our keybox for latearrivers) but of course we have to know, so that we can make arrangements.

Gladly in your case everything worked out fine. Once again, we are happy that you had a nice holiday and did not take the welcome the wrong way. We would be more than pleased to welcome you and your parents back with us if you return to Salzburg!

Met by a charming receptionist on our late arrival we were given a very warm welcome and allocated a nicely furnished, clean room with good shower. Dinner in a local restaurant was very good and breakfast in a light, airy dining room was relaxed and very pleasant. Strongly recommend this small but very well organised hotel.

We chose the Sallerhof as a base from which to explore some of the sights in the area around Salzburg rather than stay in the city itself and we were very happy with it.
The hotel is situated in the small town of Grodig which is a 35 minute bus journey from the city centre and main railway station, the No.25 bus running every 20 minutes, followed by a 5 minute walk to the hotel.
The family and staff of the hotel were very friendly and welcoming, the place was clean, tidy and, at the time of our visit, beautifully decorated in an autumn theme.
We had one of the luxury Mozart double rooms on the first floor which was large and comfortable and had a balcony overlooking the Untersberg mountain.
With the exchange rate at the time the tariff equated to around £35pppn which we felt was extremely good for the standard of accommodation.
Breakfast is a buffet with a huge choice and excellent quality.
On our arrival the owner provided us with a large pack of information about the various tours that are available and, as the hotel serves only breakfast, a map showing places where dinner may be taken. Although Grodig is a small town there is plenty of choice with both Chinese and Italian restaurants nearby as well as traditional local fayre.
Free wifi was offered and there was also a computer in the reception which was free to guests including use of the printer.
We stayed for four nights in mid-October and were blessed with fabulous weather, sunny and warm each day, a real bonus after a disappointing summer in the UK.
It was so warm that we needed to have the windows open at night but thankfully we had no problems with mosquitoes.
Although organised tours were available to the local attractions we found that it was possible to make all the trips we wanted by public transport for a smaller price and with the advantage of greater flexibility on time.
By using local buses and trains we visited the salt mines at Hallein, the Kaltenhausen brewery, the Eagle's Nest and the ice caves at Werfen.
Although we covered everything we set out to do we found enough new things to tempt us back to the area and we would certainly stay at the Sallerhof again.

Thank you so much for your kind feeback! We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us so much and were able to visit all the attractions that you planned to.

If you ever want to come back to Salzburg to explore the city and sourroundings even more, we would love to welcome you back! Luckily you had best autumn weather, but also during wintertime Salzburg is worth a visit. Soon snow and christmas markets are coming, and turning the area into a 'winterwonderland'.

We hope you enjoy the last days of you autumn and send you nice greetings from Grödig/Salzburg!

We chose the Hotel Sallerhof as a reasonably priced hotel/B&B base to park our car and catch public transportation to downtown Salzburg. There was ample parking, and in spite of some skepticism on my part, the local bus stop was a 5-minute walk away and a 20 minute trip to downtown. This bus also cycled to the main Salzburg train station.

Our room was immaculate, reasonably large and modern with plug-in internet; Wi-Fi worked only in the lobby. The desk staff was very helpful, arranging tickets for the Mozart concert and dinner, advising on the bus schedule, directing us to the salt mine tour, and recommending an inexpensive local restaurant. The breakfast selection was excellent.

Groedig is a small, quiet suburban town which gives the Hotel Sallerhof a peaceful ambiance which we prefer compared to that of a large commercial hotel.
