“Restaurant portion”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

Sometimes I'd like to see the two separated, and then again, people don't pay attention and put the reviews everywhere. To be clear, this review is for the restaurant portion, and not the B&B portion. I stayed somewhere in the local area, and only ate at The Red Lion.

First of all, I have to compliment and thank the staff for being accommodating. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we arrived at our B&B later than expected, and thus had a late dinner. Unfortunately, we arrived at our B&B at about 8:50, and were informed that most places stop serving food at 9. Well, our B&B owner called ahead, and even though we arrived between 9:05 and 9:10, they still had the kitchen open for us! So thank you so much for serving us!

Second, the food was really good! The ale was good, and all was well. This is a true "small town" local pub if I've ever seen one! It was interesting to look at the pictures on the wall of what the town looked like many years ago, and the maps of the local area.

If you're traveling through and in need of a place to eat, I'd suggest The Red Lion to anyone! Besides, as an American traveling through Wales, it was good to eat at a place called The Red Lion. It just made sense! :)

Stayed here again, this weekend. We got the usual warm welcome from the staff and were quickly laughing with the locals.
The beer was as excellent as always and when the food was served (outside in the sun) it was better than I remembered. It was fantastic. We had a number of different dishes between us, they all arrived together and everyone commented on its quality (and quantity). I personally had the 'T' bone this time, it was a stunning slab of meat.
Great nights sleep was had by all.
Breakfast was terrific,
Really worth calling this place and if they've got a room, give it a try.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front are over the bar area, so if you want an early night when the bar's busy, it...

Visited the Red Lion for sunday lunch. The pub was buzzing with activity but the food was served in a quick and fuss free manner. Fantastic beef which just fell apart, a wide selection of veg with generous helpings and brilliant service. Deserts were well presented with plenty of choice. Well worth a visit and exceptional value. I highly recommend this pub and it puts a lot of its rivals to shame.

We dropped in to the pub with our collie after a gruelling 6 hours on Aran Fawddwy. It was early evening (about half six), and the weather was beautiful so we sat outside. We were delighted to see how busy the pub was, with locals and visitors alike - there was no sign of any dwindling pub trade here. Our fellow customers, most of whom had dogs, were so friendly, we instantly loved it - and completely agree with one of the other reviews- "you will be sorely tempted to have more than one!" We had a great meal. (home-cooked beef pie with chips and veg, as the locally recommended lamb and leek pie had all gone).
We will be visiting it again, and this time will probably stay over. And highly recommend it. (This review is from 2 forty-somethings and a border collie out for an impromptu long walk because the weather forecast was good !)

Popped in midweek after 6 hours on Aran Fawddwy. Arrived at 2.05 and asked if I could have a sandwich, but was told food service had finished. I assumed kitchen staff had gone home. 5 minutes later a sandwich came out for an adjoining table, followed 5 minutes later by a jacket potato. It's a great looking pub and these out of the way places need all the business they can get - but I wasn't impressed with the refusal of a request for food 5 minutes after time when the kitchen was still staffed - after all, this is walking and cycling country. I'd love to give it 5 stars, but it will have to be 3 this time - if only as a wake up call.
