“Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

Actually we stayed in the Links Apartments connected to the Hotel. They were fantastic. We had breakfast and a dinner in the Hotel. Also played pool there one evening. Hotel is nicely decorated and breakfast was excellent. Dinner less so. Menu very small as were the portions.

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your review on tripadvisor following your stay in the hotel managed Links Apartments last July 2013. Naturally I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay in the apartments and the hotel facilities. The self catering apartments are indeed wonderfully located and well equipped. They are contemporary in style and yet guests, like yourselves, can use the nearby Royal Marine Hotel for meals and to use the hotels Leisure facilities. I regret that you felt the menu choice and portions were too small. We are currently developing a new, more varied, menu from seasonal, local produce which will be offered to guests dining in the bar bistro and Lorimers dining room alike. I hope this will satisfy our guests requirements to more effect.
Thankyou again and I hope we will have an opportunity to welcome you back to Brora in the near future.
Kind Regards,
Robert Ratcliffe

Food was good but bar was very cold! We were shown to a table with a portable heater in front of it and asked for anothet but still had to ask to be moved tables. New table ever so slightly better. Cat in dining room which I didn't like but to be fair no one else seemed to mind.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your constuctive comments following your stay at The Royal Marine Hotel last December.
I really appreciate your feedback and I am delighted that you enjoyed the food. However you are absolutely right, the cat should not have been in the dining room and I am happy to report that our feline friend has been re-homed locally and I believe is very contented with his new domestic arrangements.
Secondly I am very sorry the room was not warm enough. Since your feedback we have made extra effort to bolster the heat in the bar bistro which seems to having the desired positive effect.
I hope you enjoyed your visit inspite of the above and I look forward to welcoming you back to The Marine in the not too distant future.
Kind Regards,

We have stayed here quite a few times over the years, and it remains a consistently great hotel with a high standard of food. One of the best assets the hotel has is its staff, in particular the manager Rob who was most friendly and attentive. Indeed all of the friendly local staff were worthy of praise. We stayed in a Master Room, which was very large and clean. Buffet style starters for breakfast and your main is prepared and served to you. Dinner is really good, with a great menu. Fillet steak is to die for! Someone there can cook to a very high standard indeed. The hotel has the feel of a warm, quality country house. The indoor pool is great, and when we were there we had it to ourselves, including the jacuzzi. We will certainly be returning! Many thanks to all for a great stay.

Room Tip: There are 4 Master Rooms - which are huge. Worth paying the modest supplement.

It was just ok. The room had been refurbed & was pleasant enough but a cheaply renovated bathroom really let it down. Cheap loo seat, old tiles, black mould still in tile grout spoiled an acceptable room tidy up. The bed was uncomfortable - hard mattress & pillows. I wish hotels would make more of a feature of their beds & make them really comfy.

The good thing about this hotel is the food. Good food, well cooked at reasonable prices. The 'bistro' was full due to a nice affordable menu & lorimers restaurant was empty. Why they don't just offer one larger menu & allow you to sit anywhere, I don't know. Since the Bistro was originally the bar, if you wanted a drink you had to sit in the hotel entrance to drink it. Weird set up.

Service from the two young waitresses was efficient but robotic. Overall just what I expect really when travelling in Scotland but it could be so much better with a bit of investment.

Dear 'Mcannie',

Thank you very much for taking the time to post a review on tripadvisor following your stay at The Royal Marine Hotel in November 2013. I am delighted that you enjoyed our food offering. As the new manager here at the hotel it is with interest that I read your remarks concerning the menu options and tend to agree that perhaps one good choice menu offering dishes at a range of prices whereby guests can choose to sit in either room is the way forward.
I am sorry to hear that you felt service lacked warmth and personality. I shall be discussing this with my Operations Manager with a view to implementing guest care training which would appear to lacking on this ocassion.
I agree that a good nights sleep with comfortable mattress and pillows is essential, and a fundamental aspect of our service, and regret that you felt let down by the room you occupied.
I will certainly be investigating your observations and thank you once again for bringing these matters to my attention. I hope you will stay with us again in the future when we will have addressed the issues you raise.

Kind Regards,

Robert Ratcliffe

A very good hotel on the way north in the nice little village of Brora. Beautifull beach. The hotel is very calm.Nice bar serving good food and drinks all day. The restaurant serves very good food and the service is excellent. Rooms (Master) are large and very convenient. All in all - a wonderful place.

Room Tip: The Master bedrooms. They are great!

I stayed in the Royal Marine Hotel in October 2013 for business purposes.

The hotel has a very traditional Scottish style which I generally find a bit dated but given its location I can see the appeal to tourists. The reception staff were welcoming and the room well-appointed with lots of extras (robes, hairdryer, iron/ironing board, toiletries, tea/coffee, flat screen tv).

I didnt use the leisure facilities but both breakfast and dinner were very nice, in fact the breakfast was one of the nicest presented Ive had in any hotel. Dinner starter (black pudding with pancetta) was a huge portion, as was main course so good value for money.

Although I didnt pay for this stay, at £87 pp BB I would say it was good value and would recommend for business or leisure travellers. there is adequate wardrobe/storage space and the dressing robes are a nice touch.

There as an error will my bill in the morning but this was quickly and easily sorted with many apologies.

Overall, a good stay!
