“Great hospitality and cumbrian breakfast!”
Reviewed September 17, 2009

Stayed after a long walk up Helvellyn. Thought was situated in a village/close to pubs etc but a little way from Glenridding. Great location by the lake and spectacular views but don't expect to walk to a nearby village as it is a drive away. When we arrived Julie was especially welcoming as was the pot of fresh coffee in the lovely new conservatory. The room was quite small but comfortable - only complaint would be very thin walls and could here snoring all night and showers and toliets in the morning. Breakfast was excellent and the licensed bar was a welcome addition. Looks like the B&B is being refurbushed (and whilst more than satisfactory as is) am sure it will only get better as completed. Would recommend for a short break.

This is an extremely good B & B, with an excellent proprietor. She made us feel very welcome. Our room was very tastefully furnished and the bed was ever so comfortable. Best of all - the breakfast was FAB! with just about the best sausages I've tasted. Definately return, and recommend to anybody.

On arriving on a late fri evening we found that we had been upgraded to a luxury room which was a great bonus! The room was to a very high spec with nice touches most of which you wouldn't find in luxury hotels. Would be an excellent hotel for families too as this was a family rsuite with a seperate room with bunkbeds LCD TV and DVD player. The information provided for activities to do in the surrounding area was detailed and sufficient. This along with info provided by the owner Julie who was extremely hospitable helped us plan the first day of our break. Breakfast was of a very high standard with a varied choice and great quality produce used. Often when I have stayed in hotels in the past breakfast can be greasy with processed food being used, this def was not the case: the best breakfast I have ever tasted!!! The location of the hotel is good virtually half way between Pooley Bridge and Glenridding. Ullswater is much quieter than Windermere and I would definately recommend this as a great place to get away from it all for both couples and families.

My husband and I have just returned from the Lake District where we stayed at the lovely Ullswater View B&B. My husband has not been too well so we decided to 'get away from it all' for the weekend. We arrived at 11pm absolutely shattered after driving up from Hampshire and it was lovely to be met by Julie (the owner) who asked if we wanted tea, coffee or a drink from the bar. After a glass of wine she helped me up the stairs with our bags (which I thought was really nice of her) and showed me our room. We had the twin bedded room and must say that the beds and pillows were so comfortable it was like home from home. with a lovely view of the Lake. The breakfast was superb, cooked just the way we like it with plenty of toast and tea/coffee to go with it. The added touch of the bar in the evening was great. There is nothing better than a glass of wine at the end of the day in comfortable surroundings (the conservatory was great). The Ullswater View is more like a small hotel (or seemed to be) than a B&B. Our past experiences of B&B's are not too good so we will definitely be returning to this one.

My husband and I spent a long weekend at the Ullswater View. On arrival we were greeted by Julie the proprieter with a warm welcome and a lovely pot of much needed coffee. Julie was very helpful in giving us directions into the nearby towns, for cycle routes and walks. Julie also organised for a surprise bottle of Champagne for my hubby 's birthday of which we were very grateful.

The location was in easy reach of Glenridding and Poole Bridge. There were plenty of local places to eat and drink. The B& B also offer a lovely bar and conservatory which not only looks good but is cosy! Our room was lovely with plenty of space and the shower was superb! Our friends also stayed in the room next door and found it lovely.

All four of us really enjoyed breakfast each morning which offered a variety. Overall the four of us found the staff very helpful and friendy the food was lovely, the drink was affordable and the decor tasteful. We would definately recommend it and hope to return again this year!!

I have had the pleasure of using Ullswater View (formally Gowbarrow Lodge) for the last nine years. It gets better every year as the current owner seeks to improve the facilities offered to her guests. I have read many of the reviews regarding this establishment and agree wholeheartedly with the positive comments that have been made.
The welcome is always warm and friendly and the atmosphere always has a positive feel about it. The rooms are well presented with beautiful views and all of the amenities you would expect from a well run business. The breakfast is second to none and is well recieved after walking around the fells or an early morning dip in the lake. I would recommend this hotel whole heartedly to people young and old you will be treated like family. I wish the owner every success for the future.
