Had Sunday lunch on 17th march , thought it was average for that kind of place , we both had Cheese creme Brulea ' to start it was stone cold ? Hmm ! Lovely breads attentive service , portions small s usual at these places and offers , allways short on veg for me ! Sticky toffee pudding excelent , lovely coffee and game of scrabble in the lounge afterwards , Enjoyable but won't rush back !

We stayed for the weekend and found the Hotel to be fantastic. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We ate in the restraunt both nights and the quality of the meals was first class. Now lets talk breakfast, these were probably close to the best English breakfasts I have had. I will probably return again.

We have just got back from a one night stay at Leeming House.
Overall we were very pleased with the stay.
One major to be aware of that we were a little disappointed with is to pre book your table in the restaurant for an evening meal as when we arrived at this beautiful hotel quite literally in the middle of nowhere we were told they were fully booked for dinner. We therefore drove 7 miles to the next main town (Penrith) and had a good curry!
We did get breakfast as part of our deal for staying here and after 6 breakfasts in 18 months of different hotels in the lakes this breakfast was the best, the staff were friendly and the choice was excellent.
Room wise it was comfortable and spacious and quiet which is all I could ask for. Would certainly stay again but just ensure we had a reservation for an evening meal. A further plus point was the parking facilities many hotels in the lakes have I find limited spaces and that certainly is not the case here

The hotel is in a beautiful location, but is very remote. The hotel itself is very nice with lots of character. There are a few public rooms that you can relax and have a drink in but they do lack a real welcome. There is one small bar but it didn't seem to have any staff. The other rooms are waiter service so if you enjoy sitting in a bar/lounge area, you won't find it here. The public rooms all have open fires, but only one was lit. If you weren't first there, you couldn't benefit from it which was a shame. The restaurant was very nice and all of the staff were very attentive. We ate there the first of the 2 nights we stayed and had anticipated eating there on the second night also. However, the menu, although lovely, was quite limited. We thought that because of that it would change for the following night, but it didn't. The food we had was very nice and well prepared. My wife had brisket of beef and was very satisfied with it. I chose the pork belly. It was just OK. It was only just bigger than the size of a fish finger, not what I expected having had this dish in several other places. The breakfast selection was ideal and very well presented. The room we had was a feature room which had a small balcony overlooking the beautiful gardens. The room was a good size, very comfortable (and large) bed. The only down side was the TV which only showed 5 channels with no radio or music. There is no wifi in the rooms. Although available in the public rooms, it is quite expensive. There are no leisure facilities at this hotel, the advertising informs you that you can use the facilities at another hotel, but this is 18 miles or so away. Overall we had a pleasant stay, but there were some limitations.

My partner and I stayed just for the night. The staff are welcoming and Hotel was elegant.
We choose to take our dog and were given a room with a terrace with a view of the Lake, it was perfect.
We choose the special Dinner Bed and Breakfast special offer which was a really good deal.
The food was excellent at both dinner and at breakfast.
Will go back for longer soon.

Room Tip: If travelling with a pet ask for a terrace room.

Unfortunately we only stayed for one night, the lake view room in the extension was lovely and i can't fault the food......... excellent both dinner and breakfast the service was efficient without being obtrusive and the dinner bed and breakfast rate for the two of us i found to be great value. The hotel is spotlessly clean and its situation is beautiful the public lounges warm and comfortable............we will be back !!

Room Tip: If you can upgrade the lake view is well worth it

We have stayed in other Macdonald hotels, Swan @ Grasmere and Guisbourgh Hall and we have loved them. On booking i paid for an upgrade for a feature double room and booked a meal for the Saturday, our wedding anniversay for around 8pm. We read the reviews and as the trip was to celebrate a wedding anniversary we really looked forward to it. Check in was abrupt, no pleasantries, the guy literally barked at us to confirm our names and other than advising we could not have a table in the restaurant unless it was at 6.45pm on the Saturday, he said nothing to us. Our room was on the ground floor, doors opening onto the gardens. Twin Room, it was like a tomb. No natural light, shabby, old fashioned, my heart sank. If this was a feature room i would genuinley be amazed. We agreed immediatley that as the hotel was full there was little point in attempting to change rooms and that we would not let things spoil the weekend. And it did'nt. The area is fantastic and on Friday we went up to the local pub (Brakenrigg?) for our meal which was excellent.
The hotel deserves the plaudits for location and food. Service, apart form reception, was good. The three lounges could have been enjoyable but for the fact only one fire was lit in one room on the evening, despite the snow, very cold weather and lack of heating in the public rooms. Drinks were too expensive.
I was very disappointed.
