No spa,no fitness centre,no fancy cocktali menus, just a wonderfully welcoming country hotel that is difficult to fault. We have now stayed here four times and will continue to return.
A finely maintained building sitting in a splendid lakeside setting is just the start. Add very personal hospitality, wonderfully spacious public rooms, excellent bedrooms with immaculate
housekeeping and, finally, superb food. There is little wonder that reviewers speak so highly Rampsbeck. It really is a most relaxing place to stay. Only ten minutes from the M6 and not much more than 40 minutes from Windermere over the spectacular Honister Pass, it could be a miilion miles away from either. The rack rate may seem on the high side but there are really good value inclusive packages to be had. Long may it continue to flourish.

Room Tip: The de-luxe rooms face the lake and are worth the extra cost. Silver Crag with it's balcony and...

We booked into this hotel just for overnight to sample the public rooms, bedrooms and food as a family member was considering this hotel for their wedding. The public rooms are elegant, with a couple of them having log fires. The bedrooms are decorated tastefully, even the cheapest room had a large bathroom. If the hotel had not been full last Saturday I would have changed the room as the bed was only a 4 foot 6 but that is personal preference and I couldn't fault the room. The dinner on Saturday evening was superb, the dining room having stunning views across the lake.
The 'sample party' were so impressed the wedding couple booked the hotel for their wedding (having viewed 10 other lakeland hotels) and we booked the 2 bedroom cottage (gorgeous in every way) for 4 days leading up to the wedding. Looking forward to our stay in the cottage and hotel later in the year.

Room Tip: One of our party had room 21 that had zip link beds making a 6ft bed, a view over the lake and is a...

We are local to this wonderful hotel, but even so we have stayed with our little dog and are always made welcome. We often have a bar lunch on the beautiful terrace that overlooks the lake in the summer and have just recently had the most wonderful party with friends, the food and staff could not have been better, the service is always first class, and we look forward to many more visits with our friends and our dog. Thank you so much, just wish we could keep you as a secret but that would be unfair so we wil share.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a glorious view of the lake, but all are good

Dear Little Terrier00,
Many thanks for deciding to "go public" and share your recent dining experience with others on Trip Advisor !!
We really appreciate all of your lovely comments .
It is always lovely to see local people enjoying Rampsbeck and all that we have to offer, and even more so when they become regulars like yourselves.
Seeing as you have shared the secret of Rampsbeck to every one I will let you into another one just between us...[!!!] We offer another service called "Private Dining", this is for groups of up to 14 people, and they are set up in their own restaurant for the evening with their own waiters, we do not charge for this service and also the menus can be arranged in advance, it really is a lovely way of dining at Rampsbeck be it for a special birthday celebration or a family get-together . Also on the plus side for locals is that there is no need for a designated driver as we could use our courtesy car to pick up and return guests.
Many thanks once again for all your lovely comments,
Best wishes
Sonya

Booked very last minute after deciding to go on a little road trip with my dog. After finding the Rampsbeck Country House Hotel in the AA guide to dog friendly places to stay, i booked in. On arrival, service was fantastic. We were made to feel very welcome. My room was spacious, beautiful and had views accross the lake.

Breakfast was probably the best i have had! After such a good experience i decided to return that same weekend and after telling my parents about the Rampsbeck they also booked in that weekend, and of course brought their dog! We decided to dine in the restaurant on the saturday evening. Amazing food yet again.

Cannot wait to return!

Room Tip: Suites i think have the best views to ullswater, the superior rooms have a side view.

We have just returned from a one night stay at the Rampsbeck, what a TREAT this hotel is. From arrival to departure the staff were exceptional, nothing was a problem. The room was lovely and as expected, as I had looked at the website before booking. Drinks in the comfy lounges or bar area were very relaxing. Dinner! WOW it was exceptional. The service was excellent for both dinner and breakfast.

I couldn't fault our stay and hope to return again for another relaxing stay.

Well done Rampsbeck, a first class hotel

We stayed for three nights from 30th December. It was quite expensive but that is to be expected at this time of year and it was not out of kilter with other hotels that we looked at. The hotel is in a fabulous setting on Ullswater and the hotel itself, while a little old fashioned in style is well kept and clean, The staff are lovely and even though we were accompanied by a largish hairy hound nothing was too much trouble for either our needs or those of our canine companion.

I did debate about giving an "average" rating as I had two gripes. The new years eve dinner was just OK, it is very difficult to cook for 70 or 80 people at one sitting and the difference between that meal and the one the following night was marked in that the second one was much more what we would have expected from a restaurant with the Rampsbeck's reputation.

The second gripe is unfortunately one that while the hotel tried, they could do little about in that it was unbearably hot on new years eve in the public rooms and in the restaurant. It really detracted from the evening and while it was due to a fault with the heating system the lighting of a log fire made matters worse!

But the great firework display, the free flowing champagne, the fab canapes and the attentive and cheerful staff all made the last day of 2011 very enjoyable despite the heat.

Room Tip: The rooms on the front of the building have balconies with great views.

Dear Howdeb and Molly
Thank you for sharing your experience of your recent time with us with others on Trip Advisor.
We do take seriously all the reviews and comments on this site and I can assure you that all your comments will be discussed at our next Management Meeting.
Regarding the central heating system in the bedrooms, I am pleased to say that whilst the Rampsbeck was closed at the start of January the faults have all been rectified, all bed-room heating can now be independently regulated as to the requirements of our guests.
We tend to put the log fires on downstairs mid-afternoon as it turns chilly outside as the nights draw in.
If you have any "gripes" at all on your next visit with us then please do mention them to a member of staff, we would much rather do our best to remedy the problem for you there and then, so you can enjoy the rest of your stay.
We are pleased that you chose the Rampsbeck to see the New Year in, and that overall you enjoyed your time with us, we look forward to seeing you -and Molly- in the not too distant future,
Until then our very best wishes to you all,
Sonya
