My wife and I have visited the Eagle and Chld on a number of occasions and the food and service has always been great. Our normal choice is a shared starter of devilled whitebait and then a couple of Lancashire hot pots. This has always been absolutely great. The whitebait is served whole as it should be and is delicious. The hotpots are devine. The lamb is succulent and melts in the mouth. My only tip would be to order some extra potatoes or chips because there is not an awful lot of potatoe in the hot pot. This however is nit picking because trust me it is gorgeous. However I felt compelled to write this review after my latest meal on the 16th of Feb. What I have had before was fantastic. The latest in my view puts this place into a different class. My wife and I shared half a dozen fresh uncooked oysters. They came with a shallot vinagrette and a little tabasco. Now I have never had raw oysters before, but I am fully aware how important it is that they are completely fresh. All I can say is wow!!!. Glen they were one of the most amazing things I have eaten. Absolutely stunning. I then had a chicken and ham hock pie. Those reading this review might think that this sounds average, its just a chicken and ham pie. Believe me it is not. The flavours are intense and the whole thing just melts in the mouth. I am no (bless his soul) Michael Winner, but I have been lucky enough to have dined at some great restaurants, some of which are michelin starred (see my other reviews). In my view the Eagle and Child is up there with the best of them. One last thing, I want to add a special mention to the "young ones" that work in the restaurant. The service they provide is always faultless, delivered with a smile and without doubt they deserve to be truly proud themselves for the service they deliver. I can't say any more other than Thanyou. See you soon.
