No pretensions here, but you get an honest meal and the usual pub drinks range at a reasonable price. The staff are helpful and pleasant, the food is always well cooked if unadventurous.

It's all low timber ceilings in the bar area; the restaurant end is a bit plain, though. The place tends to be very quiet in the week, and busy at the weekend.

This is our first choice for a "I can't be bothered to cook tonight" evening.

This was an old coaching inn on what was once the Old Great North Road. Today it is still an inn of character serving excellent very good value food in a warm hospitable atmosphere. The beer is well kept and the bar area pleasant friendly. The service is pleasantly efficient and the food always hot and well presented, highly recommended.

Had an amazing dinner with english relatives in this quintessential english pub. The food was sensational, and good value, and I was able to continue my education on "real ales".

The service was great - friendly and efficient. The waitress was poised, beautiful and charming.

It's a 'happy' place to eat - the staff are lovely, friendly and good at their jobs! The tea is hot and plentiful, the beer is at the right temp, and the food is...excellent quality, freshly cooked, piping hot (when it should be!) and well-served. The fish pie is to die for, and my dad says the same applies to the Steak and Kidney pie! The chips are hot, crispy and full of flavour, right to the end of the plateful. The salmon fishcakes are loaded with fish, and you get two to a serving, where one would be enough!
If I had to criticise, I'd say that in winter, it's not always warm enough in there, so I feel I have to keep all my layers on - particularly so in the loo. The range of dishes is not extensive, but that is reflected in the good quality - less choice, more quality! We eat here about 6 times a year and have never yet been disappointed, come away moaning, or left still wanting more to eat! Puddings are aren't as good as the mains, but still good, with plenty of custard/cream/ice-cream. Soups are always LUSH! Prices aren't cheap, but I'd say they are fair.
They do OAP deals at lunchtime during the week, but on a Sunday you can't reserve a table unless there is more than 6 of you, and the dining space isn't large, so it pays to either get a bigger group of you, or not turn up late on a Sunday.
Great food, great staff, friendly atmosphere - what more do you want?
