“Has the wow factor.”

The façade of the building is breathtakingingly beautiful as are the gardens, views and guest spaces. We stayed in a connoisseur room which unfortunately we found rather mediocre although the room was clean and the bed soft and bouncy. To our discomfort the floorboards above our room were very creaky which disturbed us considerably. The toiletries, bottled water and complementary wine which were refreshed daily were appreciated. The robes and towels were soft and fluffy as you would expect and the daily room housekeeping was good with fresh towels daily. The hotel has a lovely pool and sauna which we made use of. The staff were unobtrusive and polite. We stayed on a three night half board basis and the food was excellent. Overall we feel we had very good value for money and had we not wanted to move on would have considered staying on longer.

Room Tip: Although the connoisseur room was not grand as I was expecting it was far preferable to staying in o...

Thank you very much for this review of your stay at Tortworth Court. Built in 1853 the Victorian manor house is indeed a beautiful building and is surrounded by 30 acres of woodland and gardens offering wonderful views and walks. With the age of the building we do know that some of the floor boards are noisy, our maintenance team are constantly making improvements and hope that this did not intruded on your stay too much. We are very pleased that you made full use of our leisure facilities: including swimming pool, Jacuzzi, gym and spa. We look forward to welcoming you back for a longer stay next time.

We booked this as a surprise for the children, as they love a good hotel. it had been recommended by a colleague that has styed several times.
We had a day in bristol and stopped on the way home, ostensibly for a picnic in the grounds, but then proceded to book in much to the childrens delight.
The hotel is stunning, we were lucky to be in the main building as the newer extentions have less character.
Our room was really good with two decent camp beds for our children.
We all trooped down for a swim and then had a wander and play in the beautiful grounds.
We had sneaked a picnic tea in so didn't try the evening meals, but breakfast the next morning was excellent, fresh, plentiful, and great variety.
Overall we had a great stay and at £65.00 for the four of us it was brilliant value. We will definately return.

We are very pleased that you and the children enjoyed your stay at Tortworth Court and that you will definitely return. The original Victorian manor house was built as a private residence in 1853 and the extension is part of the old stable block and contains many rooms with character, including a bathroom in a tower. Our leisure facilities are very children friendly and we have 30 acres of grounds for children and adults to run around in. Thank you very much for this review of Tortworth Court.

We stayed through a TravelZoo offer which included three course evening meals and bubbly in the room. The welcome on our arrival was warm and professional, we were a little early for check in but was offered a room (although not the original we we booked into). The room was without the sparkling wine offered as part of the deal (presumably because of the last minute room switch) but once brought to the attention of reception was quickly resolved.
We ordered lunch from the Brunel bar, just two paninis, which took 30 minutes to arrive; a tad too long for my liking.
The hotel is in the process of a complete refurbishment, and the room we stayed in had yet to be done, so the decor was more like your Grannie's front room than a stylish 4* experience. It was clean to a very good standard (although the odd scuff mark on the wall) and, being at the far end of the hotel and away from the motorway, very peaceful. It would have benefitted from one or two extra touches - robes, small fridge, complementary water, fresh milk, more spa-type products in the bathroom... Although a helpful sign by the loo did inform us that the sewage system was grade2 listed!
Our meal on the first night was pretty disappointing, in terms of both quality and presentation. The waiting staff in Moretons restaurant were very amenable and efficient. For some reason, the CD equivalent of Heart FM is played throughout, which I can't recall experiencing in any other 4* hotel dining experience; really quite off putting. Would suggest asking for a table by the window to get a view of the lovely grounds. Our meal on the second night was much improved on the first.
Breakfast was buffet style, with some hot options available cooked to order. Maybe my expectations were too high but i'd hoped it would all be cooked to order, with options such as Eggs Benedict.
The Atrium bar is a stunning place for a pre- or post-dinner drink, as is the outside terrace in good weather.
We had a lovely stay overall but had high hopes which were not met.

Over the past 18 months we have refurbished many of the public areas within the hotel including Moretons restaurant, Atrium bar, Brunel’s bar and our mail reception area and are currently refurbishing most of our 190 bedrooms and would like to think this reviewer will see a vast improvement on their next visit. We are sorry that the food on your first evening was not to your liking and that you found an improvement on your second night. Our housekeeping team, when being informed of any room moves or changes to guest’s requirements will very quickly make any alterations as necessary. With over 300 guests in the hotel on busy days it would be very difficult for us to provide a cooked to order table service at breakfast and most of our guests enjoy the leisurely buffet style breakfast we offer. Tortworth Court is a grade 2 listed building and that is the reason we have the signs in the bathrooms to make people aware of this fact. We would like to thank you for this review and that you had a lovely stay.

We stayed at the hotel for a night in July 2013. First impression was how beautiful the property and gardens were. The accommodation was superb but our dinner was a huge disappointment... Our food was served within 5 minutes of ordering, not a good sign. It was lukewarm and tasted like something from a supermarket café. We sent it back and were instead given a bar meal in the atrium. I was assured that they do not microwave food, however, keep things 'warm' in the oven... Even the ice cream desert consisted of just two scoops, no decoration, cream or plate and melted as the dish was warm. What a real shame, a special occasion in a fantastic hotel let down by well below average food. Breakfast was the same quality. Book for the location but eat out ...

We are disappointed with these reviewers’ comments and it is always a great disappointment for us to receive word that we have failed to fully meet the expectations of our guests and to deliver the usually high standards of service on which we pride ourselves. We do hope that this reviewer will visit Tortworth Court again and allow us the opportunity to prove that we do offer a dining experience to match the rest of the qualities they found in the hotel. Thank you for this review and your kind comments on our beautiful hotel and gardens.

When I look for a weekend break I usually look for the local tourist attractions, the local restaurants and the local bars, basically I try to spend as little time in the hotel as possible.

However with my wife 8 months pregnant we wanted one last get away without the little nipper but didn't want to travel too far from London and obviously, on this trip, we would not be trecking up mountains or even really walking around the town.

From the moment I drove in to the car park of Tortworth Court Four Pillars Hotel I didn't leave the hotel. The grounds are amazing, as is the hotel itself. The bars and restaurants are lovely and the staff are very hospitable and accommodating.

The room was more than adequate for our requirements and comes with all the necessary amenities including free wifi.

We ate dinner in the restaurant both nights of our stay, and it was fine. Possibly sounded a little nicer on the menu than what was actually presented, but on the whole, and for the price, it was good.

Although be aware on the weekend we were there there were no fewer than 3 weddings hosted, so prepare to share some of the grounds with guests.

Breakfast was also very good with a good selection of full English buffet or continental.

Tortworth Court is indeed a great place to relax and we are very pleased that you and your wife were able find the time to get away before the birth of your child. The 30 acres of woodland and formal gardens that surround Tortworth Court are amazing but even when busy with weddings you can always find a quiet spot to relax. Thank you for your comments on the food served to you during your stay, the staff that looked after you and for this review. We look forward to seeing you all back as a family very soon.

Recently booked a two day package through Travelzoo. Breathtaking view as you approach along the main driveway. The hotel was busy, we stayed a wednesday and thursday evening to celebrate my wife's birthday on a package that included dinner and breakfast. The breakfast buffet was very good and plentiful. Our double room overlooked the large wedding marquee area. We found the staff very friendly and helpful, and when drinks were charged to our bill in error, at checkout, the matter was corrected quickly and efficiently. The room faced west and we were staying on two of the hottest days of the year so far, but a fan was provided to keep the night temperatures reasonably comfortable. The food in the restaurant in the evening was nice and varied. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the building itself is spectacular, and it was a good base from which to explore the beautiful Cotswolds. We would definitely return!

Thank you for this review and your comments that you received ‘great service in an excellent location’. We are very pleased that your wife was able to enjoy her birthday treat at Tortworth Court and you both enjoyed dining in our Moretons restaurant. The drive into the hotel, through part of the arboretum and up to the Victorian manor house is indeed breath-taking and we hope you found time to wander around the grounds and formal gardens. Located a few minutes off the M5 junction 14, we are ideally located to visit the Cotswolds or Bristol. We look forward to welcoming you back to Tortworth Court very soon.

Booked the hotel on a deal offered on Travelzoo for 2 x nights.
The Hotel and grounds are spectacular. The room was fine (but why the duvet in the middle of summer?). The Breakfast was OK and the Dinner was very good (except the Roast Lamb on our second night was as tough as show leather and why do hotels make the worst Roast Potatoes ?)
The choice of menu was very good and the wine list good. I would recommend the Saam Pinotage from S Africa...excellent.
A special mention to one of the receptionists called Lyndsey. What a helpful girl.
Overall, we will stay again when the opportunity crops up.

Room Tip: Double rooms very comfortable
