“Delightful, with fantastic food”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

A large hotel, where your still made to feel special, I am gluten free and dairy free and never felt like a freak! fantastic food especially the seafood, loved the hotel though it is sprawling ( I would recommend booking in and asking which carpark is available? elm ash etc as can park outside your room instead of carrying bags a long way)No real negatives as we had a fantastic couple of days in a lovely friendly atmosphere, only minor negative was somebody talking loudly in corridor at 04.15. great hotel, central for exploring.

Room Tip: Park outside room rather than outside reception.

Thank you very much for this review and the room tip. Tortworth Court Hotel has 190 bedrooms and does cover a large area of ground but we do have car parks situated close to most rooms. When checking in it is always advisable to leave luggage in the car, check with reception where your rooms is located and the closest car park to that room. We are very pleased that this reviewer had informed us of their dietary requirements and that we were able to cater for them as requested with our range of fantastic food. Thank you for your comments that you had a fantastic couple of days and look forward to welcoming you back to Tortworth Court.

stayed sunday 17 march.
lovely hotel and grounds but nothing around it , ideal for us as we just wanted a quite break.
cream tea on arrival in a lovely glassed roomed atrium.
excellent three course evening meal with a nice bottle of red wine, staff very attentive and polite.
nice room but the bed was a bit to firm, took a swim in the pool the next morning which was also very good.

the best part was the breakfast which was very good, a selection of everything you wanted and all cooked beautifully.

Tortworth Court is set within 30 acres of woodland and formal gardens and as this reviewer has stated we are an ideal location for a relaxing and quite break. The nearest public house is 10 minutes’ walk; we are 8 miles from Thornbury and 15 miles from Bristol. The Atrium bar is stunning and makes the ideal place to sit with a tea/coffee or light snack. Thank you very much for this review and we are pleased you enjoyed the excellent three course meal, swim and our buffet style breakfast. We look forward to welcoming this reviewer back to Tortworth Court.

We have just spent Saturday and Sunday nights at this beautiful hotel and were very impressed. Check-in was polite and professional. Parking arrangements were good. The room was large, clean, quiet, warm and well appointed and the beds very comfortable. We had to go to a function on Saturday night so ate elsewhere. For the Sunday we had the "Traditional English break", cream tea (2 huge scones), 3-course dinner and B&B, all for only £99. The dinner in the very impressive and beautifully restored Moreton's Restaurant was very good, with a wide choice, reasonable portions, all very hot. Service, mainly provided by young foreign staff, was excellent: polite, friendly, efficient; in fact the staff all seem very happy in their work and this makes for a pleasant and relaxed ambiance. The Chilean wine, though a little expensive, was very good. Breakfasts were superb: loads of choice, though wholemeal bread was a surprising omission. In fact on the 2nd morning there wasn't even any brown bread.

The only (trivial) complaint is that the spring-loaded shaft for the toilet roll was not the correct one for the support bracket so every time one pulled the paper, the roll shot out and rolled across the floor! (Room 201)

All in all a most pleasant stay and, if the "Traditional English break" or some similar package is still available, we intend to return.

We are very pleased that this reviewer will return for another stay at Tortworth Court and they were impressed with all aspects of their stay. We do apologise for the lack of brown bread at breakfast and the small issue with the toilet roll holder, our maintenance department have now rectified this.
Dinner is served in our Moretons restaurant, which as this reviewer has stated, is very impressive and has recently been refurbished. Originally when the house was built in 1853 this was the library and is now an ideal setting to enjoy breakfast and an evening meal. We would like to thank this guest for this review and their kind words for our excellent, polite, efficient, happy and friendly staff.

Winter going on and on my wife and I had the opportunity to visit Tortworth Court Hotel for an overnight function and we thought why not.
Well the experience was well worth it. From reception to departure we were well looked after. The staff on duty during our stay made us feel that we were the most important people staying there.
The evening function was well served, food excellent, staff courteous and the bar prices for drinks was really acceptable. Good wine cellar plenty of choice to suit taste and pocket. We will definitely visit again. We enjoyed it so much we booked a table for Mothers Day lunch and took our daughter her husband and our two grandsons (grandsons are aged 7 & 5) Food again was superb and live up to expectation and the way the staff treated my grandsons was amazing, they were treated like little gentlemen and not as some inconvenience this despite a full dinning room

Well done to all staff and management we will be back.

We stayed here for 2 nights on a package which does represent fair value for money. We had a good sized room with a clean and well appointed bathroom. However the bed is rather firm and the pillows are in definite need of replacement. On both nights there was quite a lot of noise coming from parties in the Orangery - which has a glass roof and is therefore not a good insulator for sound from a dance floor. However, this was a minor issue for us. The public rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The service is very good and friendly. The hotel rather lets itself down with its food which tends to be big on portion size when perhaps more emphasis could be made on the quality. A dish of the day would be a useful addition to the menu. The wine list is disappointing. The wines are not cheap and are not in my view of good quality. They could easily get much more interesting wines and still sell them at a good profit.
The hotel is well located with good access to lots of good places to visit.

Room Tip: recommendations seem to be to stay in the main house - which we did.

Thank you for this review and your comments that you found Tortworth Court to be fair value for money with a good sized bedrooms and well-appointed bathrooms. Our housekeeping department do have mattress toppers available, which can make beds slightly softer if any guest finds their bed harder than their bed at home. Tortworth Court has 190 bedrooms and we will always try, if possible, to allocate guests bedrooms away from any functions that are taking place that may involve a disco or live band. We do have a full and extensive wine list and are sorry that this did not suit your personal taste. We are very pleased that you found the food and service to be both good, even if the portions of food you found to be larger than most restaurants. Tortworth Court is ideally located, just off junction 14 of the M5, for exploring not only Bristol, Cardiff but also the Cotswolds.

Stayed at this hotel to attend a wedding in the area so only ate breakfast. Both days breakfast wasn't great. The building is beautiful and comfortably furnished in the hotel and general areas of hotel. Hotel was full as there were 2 weddings there. It is a good venue for a wedding. My husband used gym and pool and had a great workout.

Room Tip: We were in 214 which was fairly quiet

Thank you for this review and we hope you enjoyed the wedding celebrations at Tortworth Court. We are disappointed that this reviewer did not enjoy our buffet breakfast as we do offer a choice of full continental or cooked breakfast and there is always a variety to choose from. We are very pleased that this guest’s husband found time to make use of our leisure facilities and overall they felt that Tortworth Court is a beautiful building and a good venue for weddings.

We stayed at Tortworth for a business event. I was impressed how easy it was to find from the M5 and felt like royalty driving up the drive.

The old part of the building is just stunning, and the grounds are just as lovely.

I found the phone signal in the bedrooms to be a bit hit and miss also. Talking of the bedrooms, I was allocated room 124 in the modern square of the property. Nice room but did hear noise from other guests walking pasts and the person in the room next to me seemed to spend a lot of time slamming the wardrobe!

I ate in the bar for a casual lunch, which was fine. When we had our business event, we had lunch in the Orangery, but a few delegates made comments that they didn't think the lunch wasn't up to the grade.

The drive up to the hotel is very impressive and we thank you for your comments that the building is stunning and our grounds are lovely and for this review, we hope you enjoyed the business meeting at Tortworth Court. The Orangery is a magnificent glass building mainly used for weddings, conference and private parties and I am sorry that the lunch severed was not to your personal tastes. The telephone signal is one of the major projects that we have undertaken to improve over the last two years, along with the Wi-Fi signal but because of our location and being a listed building it is not an easy problem to rectify. We have now succeeded in full hotel coverage for the Wi-Fi and although we have made improvements to the telephone signal strength it is still something we are working on to improve for all our guests.
