“Not if you paid me”

I will keep this brief, the decor is horrible and drab and so is the welcome, a very forgiving person I will tolerate anything if I get reasonable service. The restaraunt is not open at weekends, I overheard the staff criticising guests for expecting to get food after 9 pm, the people who work in this hotel are only bothered about themselves, they seemed to consider the guests to be an intrusion. Avoid at all costs.

430pm Greeted by a cheerful woman who took the keys I was hopeful after a very long day... Then when I turned the key and opened the door the smell hit me. It smelled old and damp. Considering it was a family room it was pretty cramped with not much room other than to walk around the beds and to the bathroom. It was a downstairs room with an amazing view of a brick wall. The decor was old but that doesnt bother me, the TV I had to tune myself I had BBC1 to channel 5 but not BBC 2, the promise of sattelite tv turned out to be sky sports and sky news which again i had to tune in!

The bathroom was a decent size but the cracked ceiling paintwork that was obviously water damaged gave a horribly cheap air to the place (there was also evidence of water damge to the bedroom ceiling) The restaurant didnt open until 7pm which is not family friendly neither were the prices!!

Later in the evening my husband went to the bar to get 2 bags of crisps and a JD and coke (which was a minature bottle) and brought back the receipt for £6.40!!! When i questioned the extortionate price in the morning the woman realised that she had added it up incorrectly and imediately refunded my 30p!

The shower took forever to heat up in the morning and it was really hard to control the temperature (however once going it had a decent pressure) The breakfast was the only good thing about the place, a decent variety of cereal and a freshly cooked hot breakfast option.

All in all considering that I paid £59.95 for the 1 night I wish I had travelled back home to southampton and driven back the next day. Next time it will be a travel lodge or holiday inn!!

Excellant service and very pleasant understanding staff. I stopped over on a trip to Wells with my teenage son, some noise during the night caused me to complain but this was dealt with immediately.
The rooms are very basic and require updating but for the price you won't get a better service. Breakfast was great and I would definately use again for mid point stopover on way to south coast.
Keep your premier inns/travel lodges they are too unfriendly and impersonal. ask at this place and you will get the answers to your request with smiles.

You really don’t want to stay in this hotel.
The positives first, the location is good and it has a large car park. Its fairly clean throughout, with cheerful staff and a satisfactory breakfast.
Now for the negatives which greatly out way the positives, badly in need of modernisation. The seventies decor is hard to overlook, the avocado bath suite, the wooden bedside furniture, rotten window frames and a television with no teletext.
Far worse though is trying to control the temperature of the shower, more water rang down the shower hose than through the shower head and it was hanging onto the wall by a very wobbling attachment from the bath. The cold water tap in the hand basin dispensed warm water! The toilet seat was very loose. Also there was an unpleasant smell in the en-suite from the drains.

Where do i start! Check in was fine, we walked up the stairs and turned into a corridor which can only be described as the corridor from the shining, all it was missing was the the twins! When we first walked into the bedroom my boyfriends precise words were "has the maid taken a dump in the bathroom". It stank of poo. Along with the stench, the room was a 60's design nightmare. The furniture, the decor the awful fitted wardrobe with pictures in the middle. I didnt want to get off the bed in fear of catching something, and in agreement with another review it was seedy and pretty sick! But we laughed a lot , especially when we walked out the hotel on two occasions some poor young couple were checking in for a romantic weekend, unknowingly what they were letting themselves in for. All in all i wouldnt recommend this hotel to anything breathing. Its a shame its a big hotel just need a hell of a lot of work, and fabreeze!

This hotel is seedy, a million miles from other hotels used for businessmen, like Holiday Inn Express or Travel Lodge. The room was an awful seventies TV set, tacky and cheap, smelling like a sewer from an unclean spa bath, god knows how much human excrement had accumulated in the pipework, it was all I could do to have a shower. In the morning I found the cleaning staff wiping the tea cups dry with the hand towel I had used to dry myself. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone.
