Review of Broadview Gardens

Broadview Gardens
Ranked #2 of 3 things to do in Hadlow

Attraction details
Owner description: The 8 acres of garden are formed around a 100 metre long double mixed border backed with clipped Yew hedges and columnar Oak trees. From the border run two grass avenues lined with clipped hedges. Hanging from this structure are a variety of large and small contemporary and traditional gardens designed and built by students of Hadlow College. Throughout the gardens there is an extensive range of unusual plants and collections, in addition to more familiar plants used in unconventional ways.

The gardens are part of Hadlow Agricutural College, So do not expect precise trimmed lawns & Borders. This is a place of Learning & experimenting for the Students. It is free to walk around.
Most plants are labelled. It is a series of outdoor rooms & a very good long border walk which can give you some ideas for home. Probably need to visit several times to adjust to the seasons.
Beware there is some deep water in a couple of places so do not children run away.
We spent over a hour & half just walking around. There is a reasonably priced garden shop attached at the end of the garden trail with helpful staff & reasonable prices. We did not use the tea room as we had eaten earlier, but now wish we had after seeing the excellent menu. ( we had just paid an arm & leg at a pub in East Peckham before we got here)

So easy to get to from Tonbridge, a real little treasure of a garden. Ever changing with the seasons it is a must visit every month kinda place. Plus you can buy plants locally grown.

This is a local venue for us so we come here quite often but although we think the gardens are lovely we have never eaten in the tearoom, boy do I wish we had!!! They offer a small but varied menu, sourced from local produce, it's very reasonably priced, well presented and tasty, we had a great lunch of twice baked potatoes, with cheddar cheese, spring onions, streaky bacon and mozzarella served with a balsamic vinegar dressed green salad, fabulous!!! Give it a go if you are in the area, the gardens are free to stroll in and are maintained by the agricultural college students, there is a nice garden centre too.
