We stayed at orrillia house back in April this year(2012) and we found it excellent!!
The staff were very welcoming, but left us to our own devices and didn't mither us which was great!
We had our two children with us and we were given the attic room which was spilt into two rooms with an ensuite bathroom! Really brilliant, loads of space and plenty of wardrobes, we could defo stay for a week- plenty of room!
Flat screen tv, tea and coffee making facility's and toiletries included!
The breakfast was fantastic!!! Nothing was to much trouble, really tasty and loads( set us up for the day)!
All-in-all we had a really enjoyable time and wished we'd have booked another night- we will be booking again!!!

Room Tip: Ask for attic room if you've got children and you want them with you but also want some privacy...

Our trip to Yorkshire was part of a driving experience at Elvington Airfield on sunday the 30th October. As part of the big adventure we drove south on the Saturday from Fife in Scotland to Elvington without pre-booking any accomadation, hoping to find something close at hand to drive to on the Sunday. After trying out an Express Inn which was fully booked and the receptionist kindly phoning the Orillia to see if they had a vacancy we were soon checking into our self catering cottage in a charming courtyard.
Check in was quick and painless and we were shown to Daffodil Cottage which came with all required kitchen utensils, bedding, towels and shower.
The manageress / owner was very helpful and suggested we call into the main house in the morning for the full breakfast which was buffet and cooked breakfast. This was served efficiently and piping hot and very tasty.
All in all a very good stay and as we left on the Sunday morning we got a fond farewell from the staff.
Would certainly go back if we were in the area again.

I booked on line, the write ups and photos were good. To be fair the hotel has potential, It is only 15 minutes by car from York and easily accessible to the A64. There is plenty of parking available. However I was dissappointed. We didnt get the room type we booked and the standard of the room we were given did not match our expectations. We stayed in the main house so can not comment on the adjoining cottages. Our room had seen better days in decor, cleanliness and maintenance. Either the price should be lowered substantially or the hotel needs revamping throughtout combined with a customer service course for the staff. As I said it really is a shame because the place does have potetial in the right hands

Room Tip: Please be very specific and view before un packing

The main house is old and full of charactor and as such has all the creaks and groans of an older property i.e creaking floorboards and noisy pipe swhich were quite disruptive But , if you want pristine lines and unimpressive decor go stay in a holiday inn express, the rooms were clean the beds were comfortable and the breakfast outstanding prepared by Clare and her friendly staff who could not have been more accomodating for our rather demanding family party if you want complacent service flat walls and enjoy the sound of motorway traffic rather than tractors don't stay in a country Bed and Breakfast

If you ever want to stay B and B near York DO NOT stay here.We stayed for one night and the room in the main house was shocking. The sun was shining and it had great difficulty shining through the dirty windows. The two wall lights eitherside of the bed were coming loose from the wall, under the bed was a wrapped sweet,in the drawers were a couple of coat buttons and a ladies earing. There was a used shampoo bottle left in the shower which pointed to a lack of cleaning before we arrived.Overall a very shabby, dirty room. The breakfast was really good,it's a shame the room let the house down. The propriertor was very unhappy when the guest checking out before us had given her grief so we paid and left without comment. No need for this dirtiness as a sweep and clean costs nothing.

We recently stayed at Orillia guest house and enjoyed our break. Breakfasts were cooked to order, and the staff were very friendly.
Our cottage style room was light and over looked the village Church.
We parked in the car park, and used the excellent coast liner bus service into York.
Looking forward to our next visit to Orillia in the Autumn. Already booked with Gary and Claire, perfect hosts, very helpful.
