“Lovely hotel, new owner and standards maintained!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2014

This was our third or fourth visit to the Kings Head, on this occasion for our wedding anniversary and a birthday, and we booked via an offer on Travelzoo. We were somewhat apprehensive once we realised the hotel was under new ownership but we needn't have worried! The new owner is Craig, who was one of the managers under the former owners, Charlie and Hollie, so he knows the hotel and its clientele really well. We had a cheery welcome and were able to go straight into our room even though we arrived early. If anything, I'd say the rooms have been improved - a fresh lick of paint in Room 6 which we had stayed in before had freshened things up. There are some cosmetic things in the bathrooms which could be tidied up, but nothing of major consequence. The bar and snug have been opened up since our last visit and the resulting lounge area is very welcoming and a much improved area for afternoon tea or a relaxing drink. We had the Taster menu one evening and ate from the regular menu the other. In all cases the food was delicious, the wine choice was excellent, and very reasonably priced we thought. The breakfasts are varied and well cooked, the full english sets you up for the whole day! The staff are a credit to the hotel and its management. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and will certainly return. Thanks to all for a comfortable, restful stay!

Stayed overnight, in the superior room, which was nice. The place is modern boutique whilst still keeping with tradition.

The food was really nice and of good quality, staff were very friendly.

Nice touches in the room, if I had to make a slight comment it would be that my room needed a paint retouch on the walls, and the mark on the ceiling needs to be painted in the correct paint.

I would stay again but for longer as I really liked this place.

We have just finished a stay here, two couples, both mid thirties to mid forties.

The offer was on Travelzoo; two nights accommodation, one night 5 course tasting menu, scones and glass of prosecco included.

We had a warm welcome by reception, and enjoyed the scones and prosecco on arrival. But you can flex and have them on either days you are staying, and we saw some opt to have their prosecco with dinner.

The tasting menu was great - not as adventurous as some my husband and I have had, but actually just right for the mix of people, as not too fancy, but all the food was perfectly cooked. We had a soup starter which was beautifully presented, and also cod, chicken, sorbet and pannacotta. The pannacotta was delicious!

The wine list was reasonable and the merlot we had from "Charlie's choice" (the owner) was good.

We had a great mix of cocktails - and also had dinner here on the second night from the a la carte as it was a good restaurant.

Staff were friendly and pleasant - some young and a little "green" but very eager to please.

Plenty to see nearby - we went to Cromer but also recommend Burnham Market was a nice place to visit. We also did the Norfolk railway steam train from Holt station which was a nice couple of hours.

Will definitely be back and visit again, as still boat rides, deer safari and tank museum to see.

A pleasant trip for a weekend, accommodated our family in two rooms with z beds. Excellent afternoon tea and ample breakfast. A favourite child's toy got left behind. We rang and the hotel found it and said they would keep it until we could pick it up. However, when we returned a few weeks later the reception staff could not find it and said they were too busy to look, but would phone. They didn't. A further call by us prompted a similar response and promise to look and call, but again disappointingly nothing. If you accidentally leave something behind, don't expect to get it back!

We arrived Monday afternoon for a two night stay booked through Groupon. First impressions were fantastic, the whole place is really well presented and the chap at reception, Simon, was most welcoming. Our room, 10, was lovely.Spacious, clean and the bed was huge, bonus!! The main bar area is a very easy place to spend a few hours chilling out, there are comfy settes and an open fire, just what the doctor ordered after a long drive. Now, the food. Oh my god, the resturant is amazing. Breakfasts are brilliant, the tasting menu delicious. We couldn't decide which starter to have from the menu so asked the kitchen to prepare all of them as a Meze, nothing was too much trouble and the food was just amazing. If you are thinking about visiting this hotel, just do it, honestly, its a gem.

Room Tip: Room 10 is excellent.

Dear Mr Thurkettle

I am absolutely devastated to think that this type of behaviour was allowed to carry on. It appears someones birthday celebration got completely out of hand. I would like to assure you that this is not usual or acceptable behaviour that anyone should expect at The Kings Head. I am genuinely appalled to learn of this happening and those involved have been dealt with appropriately.

In addition the staff will undergo training in the next couple of weeks to remind them of how to deal with a situation like this and to prevent a situation like this again in the future. I can only apologise for the distress caused to you.

I am glad however that you did like the hotel and found the staff to be nice.

Having been in contact with you, I understand that you are considering returning and allowing us to redeem our reputation.

Kind Regards and I look forward to meeting you

My wife and I have just returned after spending two nights here with a Travelzoo deal. The Hotel is in a nice location close to many places of interest. Our room No.3. was very large and the bed comfy we think it was wider than it was long. Our first evening meal was a taster which we found very much to our liking, the choice of breakfast also good cereals, full English, eggs benedict and more. We can not fault the food served at any meal.
The staff are mostly young but very easy to talk to and more than helpful which is so nice to see in youngsters these days they are a credit to the Kings Head.
This Hotel is as others have said one you can recommend to friends and family with out a worry

Room Tip: Room 3 very large but floor boards do creak in places, big bathroom and at the front traffic not a p...
