Our second stay at this traditional Inn. The food is sublime, the atmosphere is cosy, a real oasis in a busy world. The landlord and landlady make you very welcome and the staff are lovely. We rate this Inn our favourite place to stay to be able to totally unwind(no phones)and it's situation is absolutely stunning. You will relax as soon as you make your way down the beautiful scenic road to Hawnby.A piece of Britain that remains unspoilt. We will be back soon.

Room Tip: We loved the Rose room and one of the annexes but all the guests we spoke to said their room was ver...

We enjoyed a stay at the Inn on Saturday night with friends who we meet up with regularly for similar breaks around the country. The Inn is in a lovely rural location and it was no surprise to find that there is neither mobile phone reception or wifi. Instead, there is a lovely cosy fire in the bar area and good food and service. As a party of four we had two rooms in the stable block which, although on the small side, were very peaceful and had everything we needed for a short overnight stay. We enjoyed a few drinks in the bar in the late afternoon and after a quick change were back there again for dinner in the evening. Although the Travel Zoo offer is for two courses from the A La carte menu, we all enjoyed a three course dinner and were not disappointed by the standard of food served nor by the excellent service provided and we felt the prices were very reasonable. The Inn has a decent wine list, although, as with most hotels, Inns and restaurants these days rather pricey and a good selection of beers. All in all, we felt the Travel Zoo offer was good value for money and we would most certainly go back thanks to the friendliness of the staff. For any longer stay, we would probably want a bigger room than the stable block rooms which are on the small size.

Stayed here on a Friday evening- check in is done in the bar - which itself was very welcoming with a lovely open fire. We were shown to our room and asked what time we would like to eat! The room was a tad old fashioned but clean and tidy- but not the type of room you'd want to spend the whole night lounging about in- we left our bags and went down into the bar. The staff were lovely and friendly and the beer was good! We were given menus to look at our orders were taken before we were shown into the dining room! Everything we ate was delicious though I did feel it could of been improved upon with a few extra touches- for example a bit of greenery or colour on the plate would have made all the difference to the presentation- but you couldn't fault the food or any of the service!
The prices were very reasonable too.
After a decent nights sleep we were up bright and early for breakfast- service was good and a good variety of options available. We came here on a travel zoo voucher and it was definitely worth every penny- our additional spend on alcohol and extras was nearly the same again but we would most certainly return in the future .

A lovely relaxing hideaway, miles from anywhere and no phone service. The warm fire in the bar was very welcoming as it was pouring down when we first arrived. We had a very warm welcome and very tasty lunch. The room was pretty and well appointed, bathroom was small but had everything needed and lots of hot water. The dinner menu was very similar to the lunch menu, but because there was lots to choose from this was not a problem. The view from the dining room was splendid whilst it was still light to appreciated, it must be lovely in the summer months. Breakfast was delicious. Everything was very laid-back and friendly.

We booked in February through booking.com. We were taking Australian relatives. Unfortunately, when we arrived they had no record of the booking, although we had confirmation from booking.com.
The staff were very helpful and the landlord sorted us out some rooms for the night. Our relatives were in the stable block which was no more than adequate. We were in a small room. We were told that we would be moved to bigger rooms the next day. Our friends were,we weren't. Our bathroom in particular, was very tired. Taps needed attention and the bath had cracked and been repaired with some sort of cement. The floor was carpeted and stained.
The bed had no mattress protector.
We have a benchmark of what we can get for £100. This is what we paid for the room. We feel that for what we had, this was overpriced.
The staff were great. We ate in the restaurant both nights we were there and the food was excellent and the choice was very good. Be warned though, the portions are large! The service was excellent.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the moor are much larger than the back of the hotel.

Thanks for your comments. I am so sorry there had been a mix up with your booking with booking.com
We did try to juggle the rooms in order to move you but we were unable to achieve this due to the other customers already in the rooms. I have taken the other issues on board and have
listened to you. The bathroom is question is being refurbished, its just that we have had to wait for in between seasons of work.
On a positive note I am glad you enjoyed your food and only sorry we couldn't do more to rectify the problem with booking.com
Best wishes

Stayed on a travel zoo voucher. The surroundings are stunning and it really is in the middle of nowhere, this suited us. We loved the fact there is no mobile phone signal. We stayed in Sky room which was very nice and clean but over the kitchen so we had food smells and noise from the extractor. Food was lovely and hearty. In my opinion, the bar area could be a little more homely, lovely coal fire but the seating is such that you cant relax, chairs and tables. Breakfast was excellent, only fault was no fruit dishes or buffet choice, just cereals but the cooked breakfast was stunning. Very nice place and would stay again.

Room Tip: Dont stay over the kitchen
