“Excellent hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013

Only stayed here for 1 night however the hotel was excellent. This was our first stay and we booked a luxury room which was superb. This is a newer room and had a lake view with its own small terrace. The room itself was large and very nicely finished. Could not fault the room at all.

We had nice lunch in the huntsmans lodge which is a great space overlooking the lake and the food was good if a tad pricey for the sandwiches we ordered. The breakfast was also very good and there is plenty of selection. We did not have dinner in the hotel.

Staff all seemed very helpful and pleasant from the moment we arrived to leaving.

The only negative point was the main bar which was quite small and lacked any sort of atmosphere as there was no background music. On the Friday night we were the only two in the bar at 10pm although the drinks were not the cheapest (£5.50 for pint of beer) therefore maybe this explains why it was so quiet as there is not much else closeby.

Overall, a very nice hotel and would definitely consider staying again.

Room Tip: If you can, then book a superior or luxury room with a lake view

First time staying at this hotel and we would definitely return. We booked a deluxe room which was superb, very spacious & comfortable with a terrace and view over the beautiful lake. Dinner in the restaurant was amazing, food and service were excellent. Can't wait to return .

Just back from our daughter's wedding. If you have looked at this venue as a possible then book it.They are booking up in 2015.We went to St Peter's church ,Coniston Cold ,then down to Coniston Hall for a drinks reception before back to the hotel for wedding breakfast and party. This venue is stunning with fantastic views over the hills, the lake and estate, but what makes this place very very special is the staff.Nothing and I mean nothing fazes them or is too much trouble from Mr and Mrs Bannister, Tom Bannister,Louise,Clare and all the staff including the house keepers.I have stayed in 4 star hotels all over the world and nowhere beats this place for the staff. So a big big thank you to all of you for making such a magical special day, a day we will remember for ever.

Room Tip: Book the suites if you can with a lake view.Sitting on the balcony at 8-00am wrapped in a fluffy whi...

This was a treat from our daughter and what a treat!. On arrival we were greeted by very happy and helpful staff on the reception who checked us in very quickly. The room was overlooking the lake and surrounding countryside and very tastefully decorated with a very large king bed to relax in.
The evening meal was superb, the choice of dishes and wine could not be faulted and once more the staff were more than helpful to your every need.
Breakfast time was once more a pleasure, everything from fruit, cereal, full english to kippers or smoked haddock .
This will not be the last time we visit this hotel.

My husband and I booked to stay at The Coniston Hotel during Easter (2013). We have stayed at the hotel several times before and have always been extremely impressed with the quality of the accommodation, food and the warm and friendly nature of the hotel staff.

The Hotel Accommodation

Both the bedroom and the en-suite bathroom are spacious and beautifully decorated. The accommodation provides exceptional value for money and (in our opinion) is far superior to other hotels of this star grading. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the pillows were so good that we actually bought the same ones from a bedding shop back home! The bedroom that we stayed in had a lake view so we enjoyed sitting outside on the terrace for a few hours. Although the hotel is vast - it achieves an intimate atmosphere. We are always made to feel as though no request is too much by the hotel staff.

The Lake View

We were fortunate enough to enjoy a lake view from our bedroom. It was breathtaking - and provided a perfect setting for a chilled bank holiday weekend break. Our chihuahua, Mila stayed with us and she very much enjoyed her walk around the hotel grounds and in particular, chasing the ducks at the side of the lake! The Hotel even provides pink/blue wellies for guests at the Reception for those who fancy a stroll around the lake. Talk about going above and beyond!

The Bar/Restaurants

We decided to dine in the newly built bar/restaurant at the rear of the hotel in the evening and we were extremely impressed. The food was absolutely fantastic - we enjoyed several dishes from the Tapas menu. The staff in the restaurant were extremely courteous and helpful.

The restaurant overlooks the lake - which provides the perfect backdrop for a romantic meal for two. The huge log fire in the centre of the room provides a fantastic focal point and gave the restaurant a really 'cosy' feel to it.

We enjoyed a drink before our meal in the bar at the front of the hotel. Again, the roaring log fire ensured that we felt very much at home. The bar staff and other guests were very friendly.

The Staff

The staff at the hotel are extremely friendly and go 'above and beyond' in terms of customer service. They provide a 'home from home' feel to staying at the Coniston and really are a credit to the hotel.

Upon our departure, we enquired about where we might go for the day and were promptly provided with several options and driving directions by the staff at Reception.

Dog Friendly

The hotel is dog friendly - which was great for us. Mila was made to feel very welcome by all of the hotel staff and was given a lot of fuss and attention during our stay. It is a great place for us to take the dog - as she is made to feel very welcome and we all got to enjoy a walk around the lake. The 'dog rates' are also very reasonable.

We very much look forward to staying again!

Room Tip: If you are treating yourself to a stay at the Coniston - I would personally upgrade to a Superior/Lu...

My company has recently hosted an Away Day at the Coniston Cold Hotel for one of our major clients. As a private company, owned by a Yorkshire man wanting to show off “God’s Own Country”, we were keen to ensure that the event was memorable for all of our seventeen guests, but that it was also good value for money.
Originally, we were going to host our event at Rudding Park, Harrogate, but everything seemed too much trouble for the event organiser. So, having previously visited Coniston Cold on a Land Rover Experience Day, we decided to see if they could accommodate our event. Within three hours of talking to the Hotel and outlining how we wanted the day to run, we had a full itinerary and a very realistic quote from the Hotel. They had really listened to what we wanted to achieve from the day and they produced a perfect day on paper....and in budget!!
Please see the hotel’s website for our full testimonial, but suffice to say if you want to host a special event, incorporating a formal meeting, with activities in the afternoon , we chose, Clay Pigeon Shooting, Falconry and Segways this hotel can provide all that and more. If you want to have sumptuous lunches and dinners in beautiful rooms, this hotel is for you. If you want to be looked after superbly by very attentive staff you should book this hotel. If you want to entertain your guests in a truly beautiful hotel in an amazing location, we cannot recommend this Hotel enough, it ticks all the boxes.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We have always believed that companies organising a team or group session can be a stressful endeavour and if we are able to provide customer service that would lessen some of that stress, then we are on the right track to succeed. The whole team believe in providing that personalised service, and I agree with you that we have got attentive staff. We hope to have another opportunity in hosting your company away day in the future, and once again thank you for your glowing recommendation.

Kindest regards

Spent five days at the Coniston Hotel and it was first class. The food was without doubt the best I have had in a hotel. We had the signature menu and the quality was excellent. The surroundings are perfect and I am retired but wistfully thought if I was still working what an ideal place to have a corporate event. We had the most in-depth falconry experience we could have wished for. All the staff in every department were helpful, only gripe was the television.

Room Tip: If you can ask for a room overlooking the lake but all rooms of a good standard

Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay found the food to be the best you had ever had in a hotel! Our conference & events are very popular and regularly commented on as you can see from a recent trip advisor post. I was glad you enjoyed the Falconry and I hope you can visit us again soon. An engineer has been on-site this week and re-programmed the televisions. Your kind words have been passed on to the team. We hope to see you again soon.

Kindest regards
