We were given a one-night package break as a Christmas present by an exceptionally generous friend. Everything about it was beyond good. All the staff we met (reception, bar, restaurant, housekeeping, activities) were friendly and obliging. We were nervous about bringing our newly-acquired young dog to such a grand establishment, but she and we were made to feel completely comfortable and welcome. The room was splendid, with views over the lake. The walks around the grounds are gentle but as extensive as you want them to be. The table d'hote dinner menu was comprehensive (we had the option to go a la carte, but didn't need to), the dishes we chose were expertly cooked and presented and the wine was excellent and reasonably priced and service came with friendly smiles and unintrusive conversation. Breakfast was hearty. Allan (who steered us through an archery lesson before leaving us to shoot some clays) had sufficient patience to encourage two untalented novices. Even the foul weather couldn't spoil our enjoyment.
If you're one of those people who likes to find things to complain about, don't go here; you'll be disappointed.
