Just back from a 2 night break, what a difference to our last stay. The staff were all very friendly and efficient nothing was too much trouble. The new manager Tom is wonderful and made us feel like royalty, pouring our drinks, opening doors and checking everything was ok. The chef they have is superb and cooks the best rib eye ever!! Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and nice and hot with quality food.
The hotel itself is lovely and clean but does need updating to make it 100% lets hope tulip hotels will do this and make it an even better experience. I wish we lived nearby as it would be a fantastic place to have our future wedding. We look forward to staying again.

Room Tip: Upgrade to an executive room for an extra £10 which includes fruit, water , bathrobes & slippers

We made a booking at the Tulip Inn, Burn Hall, Huby, York for the 05/05/13. I had bought a package through Livingsocial.com. The package was an executive double room, a 3 course meal each, breakfast and a late check out for £69.
I had made the booking at least 3 weeks prier to arriving. When we arrived i handed over all relevant information and was given the keys to our room, once in the room i noticed that it was not like the picture advertised for this deal. We then went back down to speak to reception, i asked if room 318 was an executive double, the receptionist said that she would have a look. She then informed me that room 318 was not an executive double as they had doubled booked, she then asked if we has slippers, bathrobes in our room which we did have. The room was very small and faced onto the back of the kitchen area where we heard the extractor fans and loading of food quite clearly.
This room was very disappointing to say the least. The reception must have known before we arrived that they had over booked so why did they not explain this when we arrived and only admitted to the room been wrong once confronted with the question?
Once reception had checked out our information they sad they would provide a bottle of wine to go with our meal, but to be honest we would have preferred another room .
We had booked our table in the restaurant at 20.00hrs, we arrived a little early but i'm so glad we did as the organisation in the restaurant was a disgrace. We was shown to a table, we mentioned that we was having a bottle of wine on the house due to us been put in a standard double instead of a executive double. The wine came, we had nearly drank the bottle before we was asked what we wanted to eat. To our amazement we was told we could only choose from the first 3 at the top of the menu list on the starters, main and dessert. They said anything over £5 on the starters you would have to pay the extra, anything over £13 on the main you would have to pay the extra and anything over £5 on the dessert you would have to pay the extra. This is an absolute disgrace, the information on the voucher did not state this but did stipulate that each person would be entitled to a 3 course meal. When we finally, 40 minutes later, ordered our meal we asked for the rib eye steak to be well done, the waitress told us that having it cooked well done may make it tough. All the years i have ordered steak i have never been told such a thing. This really needs to be looked at, we had to pay an extra £11 towards our meal which we wasn't expecting to do.
We arrived for breakfast at 9.30am, the restaurant was not organised at all , it was a buffet style breakfast. We ate our breakfast before anyone had asked us what we would like to drink. We went to get some bread where the bread was frozen. No one seemed to not know what there job was or where they should be. What more can i say !!

Room Tip: room 318 faces on to the back of the kitchen, the fan was on all night.

I had read reviews before coming so knew what to expect, some liked it, some expected more. I was quite happy with a good value break away somewhere with a bed and a clean room! I liked the look of the grounds and the hotel itself. We had a deal DBB £69 which I thought was very good, although without this deal I'm not sure I'd pay more. Staff were helpful and friendly, our room was as expected, small and plain, nothing special or luxurious as I'd expected, but it was clean and comfy and all we really needed, we spent some time in the room and felt quite happy to stay in there. I had asked to upgrade to executive before we visited but they were full so she said she would put us in a nice room at the front facing the gardens, what we got was a ground floor side room facing a fence, that was very disappointing.

We actually went quad biking too which was fun but terrible value for money, £45 for what ended up being less than 30 mins driving round the track, I thought we were warming up the whole time. But it's handy that its next to the hotel, and we didn't notice any noise. The grounds are nice and we sat on the patio in the evening which was peaceful.

The drinks weren't cheap, to be expected I guess. The food was really good, we both had three courses and paid a little supplement for some dishes that weren't on their deal bit of the menu. We really enjoyed it, service was good, not slow, not too much fussing which I like, means we can talk interruption free. Breakfast was ok although we went at 9 and they'd started to run out of bacon, sausages and eggs and it took ages to refill it all, the rest of our breakfast had gone cold whilst we waited. The eggs were also rather undercooked. But there is plenty of choice, something for everyone, and it was tasty.

All in all, I'd happily go again for a night or two so long as the same deal was available again.

Booked the halfboard package for £69 for one night, this included dinner bed and breakfast.
On arrival check in was quick, but was disapointed on entering the room as it was small with a window over looking the rear of the hotel which resembles a care home or small block of flats nothing like the photos on the website of the front of the building, and gardens.
The bathroom had black mould growing round the bath and there were large cobwebs under the net curtains round the window frame.
I did not take my hairdryer with me has it states on the website that all rooms have one, ours didnt so we asked at reception and was told it would be sorted, but nothing was done about it.

Dinner was disapointing we had the choice of the first 3 meals on the menu any thing else was
at a extra charge. fancie menu with little substance, bar prices are expensive. there is apub about half hours walk with much more reasonable prices and food served.
Breakfast was quite sufficent self service buffet, but not worth the £10 you pay if your not on the half board option.
I know £69 isnt alot but we have stayed in much nicer hotels for less, it seems like your paying for theover bearing waiting staff who push the wine list at you at every oppatunity.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the front of the building

A one night stay via living social deal, First impression on a arrival were of a nice relaxed setting with plenty of car parking if just a little bit remote. Reception staff were very good and told us everything we needed to know. Our room was better than expected and quite spacious and very clean with fruit, water, tea and coffee available. Bath robes and slippers was a nice touch but we didn't use them. The restaurant is where the attention to detail would be the icing on the cake for this hotel. The food is not cheap and this is not an issue if you were getting the service and surroundings to suit but unfortunately this is not the case. I cant see why a table cloth and a candle on the table for evening meal is not provided just to give the right ambience.. Having said that the restaurant manager is very helpful and valued our concerns. As for the breakfast it is up there with best with a plenty of choice and good quality products..

One night dinner, bed and breakfast for two was £69, excellent offer.
The restaurant and the bar are in the old part of the building which is lovely.
Dinner - The service was excellent and we were not rushed. We enjoyed our 3 course meal over a three hour period. The package included a £23 allowance each for the three courses (some options meant an additional small contibution) - Allowance total £46
Breakfast - Allowance was £10 each for the breakfast hot/cold buffet. There was a good fruit, juice, cereal, yogurt, pastries selection. The hot bufffet included a full english breakfast with fried egg. In addition poached, boiled and scrambled eggs as well as porridge could be cooked to order at no extra cost. Allowance total £20
Total of above £66. Amount left £3 for the room
The room was clean with a comfortable bed and a reasonable sized bathroom. The bedroom was less than 10 ft x12ft in the "modern" three storey bedroom block (not shown in any official photographs). Excellent value for a £3 overnight stop!!
