“Confortable stay in the yorkshire countyside”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

Stayed 4 nights with a number of local friends meeting and having dinner. Booking was easy and was confirmed by return.Arrived on a snowy cold evening. Car parking areas were full each day but had no problem finding parking. Reception could have been a bit more freindly and welcoming.
The food was good with a limited menu and service was excellent, breakfast is a buffet service and the fodd was hot and plentiful, with the exception of the continebtal which beyond cereals and fruit appeared only to provide croisants.
It is essential to book for the evening meal as early as possible for the restaurant but the bar also supplies the same menu.
The bedrooms were sparse but comfortable, the bathrooms were clean but the showere over the bath leaves little room for a larger person.
The hotel is about 12 miles from York and offers transport into the city if booked.
We enjoyed the stay and would recommend the hotel to other travellers.
Excellent value for money

After having booked this hotel and reading some of the previous reviews I was a bit unsure of what we were going to get!! Having just returned from a 2 night weekend stay I am not sure what the negative reviews were on about.

I had rung before hand and asked for a nice room as it was for an occassion and upon check in we had been put in an executive double room and not a standard. Staff on reception were helpful and pleasant both over the telephone and upon out arrival. A nice touch to the room was a small plate of fruit and dressing gowns and slippers.

The room was spacious and clean and tidy, not only with tea and coffee making facilities but also 2 bottles of water.

There was a quad biking track very close to our room but it didn't bother us and we heard no noise from it.

We had booked a deal where dinner was included for one night of the stay. We were able to choose the first 3 things from the menu but it we wished to order anything else we just had to pay the difference. It was a lovely 3 course meal and even paying the difference did not break the bank. The drinks from the bar were reasonably priced as being the only place you could get a drink they could well have been inflated.

The breakfast on the 2 mornings was again lovely and on the 2nd morning we didn't get down until 9.45am and breakfast was finishing at 10am but there was still plenty to eat and the staff were still bringing fresh out.

There was a wedding on the saturday night but we would have had no idea as it was not noisy and were not disturbed at all.

The park and ride is definately recommended and very reasonably priced so much easier that driving into York and paying to park, espcially if your not sure where your going!!

There was a pub on the left hand side about 10 mins drive on the A19 before the turn off to the hotel (forget what it was called) but they did an excellent fish and chip supper and was very reasonable if you didn't want to eat at the hotel.

All in all an excellent weekend away. A good value hotel and if you get it on a deal like I did for 2 nights stay with breakfast and 3 course evening meal you can save over £100 on the actual price.

The only negative was after the first night they didn't replenish the bottle of water we had drunk and when they made the room up they left the dressing gowns thrown on the floor, but that was our only comments and it certainly didn't spoil our stay!!

Room Tip: Tell them its for a special occassion and you might get a free upgrade

We booked Burn Hall through last minute.com on the Friday evening before checking in on the Saturday afternoon. We were pleasantly suprised, the room was warm and clean, the bathroom had large soft bath sheets. The bar had reasonably priced drinks and service was prompt.
As part of the deal we had booked both dinner and breakfast. The food at dinner was excellent, a good choice and very nicely presented. Starters were large.
Breakfast choice was good and again food was good and not greasy.
The hotel is well out of York but a park and ride service is easily accessible and is much better than using car parks in York.
We would use the hotel again.

A short distance from the A19 on a side road makes this an easily accessable but quiet location. The hotel is clean modern and comfortable the staff helpful and relaxed. when I arrived my online booking had not yet come through but this did not cause any problem and I was quickly checked in. The resturant looked reasonably priced but as I wanted something lighter I opted for a bar snack which was quickly deliverd to my table, good quality and good value. Next door an "adventure park" is under construction and it is possible that the noise from this may affect a small number of rooms in the late afternoon.

Had a two night stay bought for us as a Christmas present.Chose to book in March for a birthday treat.Room we had was clean and had everything we needed.pleasent atmosphere in the hotel bar with good beer.
Breakfast in the hotel was a buffet style breakfast with plenty of choices and cooked really well.Staff where very busy and attentive. The only fault was the fitness room opening times,I think 9.00 opening is a little late on a weekend, would personly prefer earlier opening time.
Would certainly visit again.

Stayed at Burns hall 3 nights over the Easter weekend.

Check in and Check out: No problems here very efficient.
Room: this was a standard room which for the short time we were staying was acceptable, it had tea and coffee, hair dryer a good TV with free view, the bed was a double and was firm 4 pillows to choose from, the bathroom was standard with a couple of toiletries to use and the towels were large and fluffy.
The Bar: seating area was not the largest but we did get a seat on all the nights we stayed, the drinks were reasonable priced so was the food menu.
Restaurant: this is used for breakfast and evening meals, the hotel was really busy over the weekend and at breakfast time it was really busy, but I have to say they kept on top of getting the food out and keeping us topped up with tea so hats off to them for all there hard work (they did run out of the excellent sausages on Monday morning).
The evening meals were part of our package and the food and choice was very good.
Area: not a great area for Vodafone signal, but the hotel has free Wifi which works great. 10 minutes to Askem bar Park and ride, £2.60 return each adult drop off at the train Museum or in town which was great, better them trying to find a parking place in York.
We would go back here again when visiting York.

Room Tip: if you want a bigger room go for an upgrade
