“Good budget accommodation with a great welcome.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013

The room was spacious, clean and in very good condition. I arrived very late but the reception staff were welcoming and helpful, not complaining when I locked myself out of my room almost immediately when returning to my car to look for my mobile. The room was very cold to begin with but the same member of staff willingly offered to fetch me a large bedspread when asked, which helped - and in any event, on turning on the radiator, it heated up immediately.

The bathroom was as spacious as the bedroom, with a long horizontal mirror all down one wall which was completely spotless: streak and smudge free. The towels were chunky, substantial and nice-smelling, with two sets as standard (many budget hotels only put in a single set as standard).

The carpet was a plain dark blue, clean and stain-free; the pillows on the bed and the spares on the wardrobe felt in great condition, were plump but soft and the linens crisply laundered. The bedlinen felt and looked the same. Even the bed itself looked almost new. There was adequate tea and coffee facilities though only one pack of biscuits for the double room.

There are a few minor niggles - primarily that there was no mattress protector on the bed. An absolute MUST for high occupancy accommodation. The place was also quite noisy due to squeaky floorboards in what must have been every room! Surprising due to the fact that it's a relatively new build. Both issues should be fixed and could easily be with just a little attention. There was a very small amount of black mould in one corner above the bath, although given the rest was so clean and that it is difficult to remove, it wasn't a real issue. As it was very cold, a blanket or bedspread in the room as standard would have been nice.

Overall, it was a pleasant, hassle-free stay at a place that was welcoming and helpful.

Room Tip: Higher floors might suffer less squeaky floorboard noise.

Stayed here last month on a Groupon deal and so pleased we had money off otherwise would be even more unhappy with the room, the food etc. Lets start with the room - pokey little place with very little storage space and very little in the way of tea coffee and biscuits. The night we stayed was Valentines Day and was told that there was a special meal offer £25 each for a 3 course meal with a welcoming glass of sparkling wine. Lord only knows what the glass of wine was as it was heavily diluted with blackcurrant cordial not so cleverly disguised in a decanter. The food would have been just enough to feed my 9 yr old, thank heavens my husband doesn't eat dessert so I had his and he went to the car to get some crisps we had bought earlier in the day. The breakfast was better as is was self service. The shower went from freezing cold to scalding hot and the knob on the kettle had to be held down to ensure it boiled. On the plus side the mattress was very comfy. Sorry I can;t be any more positive

Just returned from a two night stay on Groupon Deal, was upgraded to Executive Double room 313 ,second floor.Room large and spacious overlooking gardens in front of hotel and quad bike area.Cannot fault hotel for service, food and public areas.Staff very friendly and efficient. Can see why it is popular for weddings and corporate meetings.Location of hotel in very rural and quiet area.Did go into Huby village and sampled local hostelry, too far to walk though. If visiting York would recommend using Park & Ride facility, buses every 10 mins and very efficient service.

Main building of hotel has character and ambience, modern 2 storey buildings for accomodation linked to it.The only minor criticism would be carpet in bedroom needing replacing as it has seen better days.Overall a good 3 star hotel and would stay again if in that area.

Room Tip: Request room on second floor overlooking garden .

We stayed here over the weekend as we were attending a wedding within the grounds.

The staff were pleasant and helpful when we checked in on Friday evening and all staff throughout the visit were friendly and attentive.

The breakfasts were very good indeed with an ample selection provided and the food produced for the wedding was of an exceptional quality!

The decor throughout the hotel is a good mix of where contemporary and traditional meet and blend together very well. As a result this helps to create a very relaxed atmosphere.

The bar was stocked well with a very good selection to be found and the prices were on par with most other hotels.

All in all we had a very pleasant stay - (but for one small incident when a chap named "Glen" and his posse of screaming girls from the previous days ceremony decided to re-enact a scene from Gypsy Weddings and run amok on the 3rd floor at 3:20am on Saturday morning - if you are reading this then you will know who you are!!! )

In general though I would certainly recommend this hotel!

We only live about 50 minutes away from York, but had taken advantage of the groupon offer to spend the day in York, then stay at the hotel. The room (motel-like) was spotless, quiet and very comfortable. The receptionist (although she had almost lost her voice!) was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We had a drink in the bar before dinner in the restaurant and all the other residents were chatty and friendly. Dinner was excellent - lovely food (and a free bottle of wine with the deal!). Breakfast was fine. Although not actually in York, it is only 10 minutes from the Park and Ride - definitely to be recommended - and the hotel is very easy to find. Use of the pool and spa was complimentary, but we didn't use them. I would recommend it.

We were given this deal as part of our Christmas present and after booking our stay i was worried after reading some of the reviews on here.

However upon arrival all of these were forgotten, I like to make up my own mind, and I'm please I was not swayed by the negative comments

The hall itself is fine and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The rooms are basic - a bit Travel Lodgish - but nice and modern. There was plenty of hot water - lovely thick fluffy towels and the bedding was really clean and comfortable.

We ate a meal in the A la Carte restaurant which was absolutely gorgeous, could not fault it and once again the service was great. We had a free bottle of wine with our deal - and again could not fault it .....

After our meal we went to the bar and chilled out for a wile before retiring to bed. The bar area, which is really cosy and has some lovely sofas!

Although the breakfast was good with great choice and was plentiful. I was disappointed with the service - not a patch on the previous evening. There was no bacon,or bread for toast, or fruit. Although they were quick to replenish it when asked - a great hotel would have preempted this and refilled once they were getting low.

It's about 10 miles outside of York, and not really near the park and ride as others have said. So you are just as easy driving into York and parking the car, although at 2.20 an hour it's not cheap. But don't let that put you off, cos York is a brilliant place, certainly not one to be missed.....

Overall though we had a good stay and would definitely recommend this hotel and the area to others and would go back - provided we got the same deal ........
