Best Western Burn Hall Hotel

Wife and I stayed at the Burn Hall Hotel for one night 26/10/12 for a shopping trip to York 27/10/12, our double room was spacious with large seperate bathroom and freeview TV. There were plenty of friendly staff available to assist the guests, evening meal and breakfast were very good and prices at the bar for drinks and food were reasonable. We enjoyed our day in York and parked our car at the park and ride at Rawcliffe Bar which is located off the first roundabout you come to traveling on the A19 from Burn Hall into york (about 15 minute car ride), it cost us 5 pounds return for the bus ride from the carpark into York centre which included parking the car. Very enjoyable stay and great price when booking the room via lastminuite.com. Only pitfall was that free wifi was only available in the reception area and not in the room, which is a shame because this is a hotel which caters for conferences etc, it would have been nice to have checked emails etc whilst away from home. Otherwise excellent stay.

We were recommended to try Burn Hall for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and attentive, the food was good quality and nicely presented and everything was piping hot. Although it is a carvery and we had choice of two roasts you could also order a fish dish or risotto if you preferred which was specially prepared for you. We didn't sample the puds although they looked delicious as we had more than enough to eat with the starter and main course. The restaurant was well laid out with attractive decor and had a very nice feel to it. The bar area is in the older part of the building which was very cosy and it had retained many of the original features. We did ask to have a look at the bedrooms and were shown the standard and executive rooms which we thought looked very clean and well equipped and for the money they charge are good value, obviously some of the bedrooms don't have a great view but that wouldn't bother me as this hotel is more of a place to use as a base to visit surrounding areas and local attractions. We will definitely be returning again!

We went there for the second time on a KGB deal at a bargain price and it proved to be excellent value. The room was a decent size, warm and very comfortable.Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The hotel is set in countryside well back off the road down its' own drive with bags of parking spaces. The hotel is only about 8 miles North of York and just a couple of miles from the park and ride at Rawcliffe Bar. It is an excellent base to explore York and the surrounding area.We paid a little extra for the three course meal deal which was good but a bit "posh" for my taste. In summary we enjoyed our stay immensely and will keep an eye out on the KGB site in the hope it comes up again.

We have been to Burn Hall on two occasions as a family, simply because it was convenient for York and Scarborough, to visit, and YES we were on a KGB deal.
Firstly the hotel!! In my opinion this is not a hotel, but as advertised " a confrence centre" With a country location set in own grounds, first impressions are of a Country House' but as you drive in to the car park you discover that this is just a front, and the majority of the "hotel" is modern toilet block structure, with no character at all. This will be reflected internally as well.
The main entrance is modern but reminds me of a "Care Home" The reception is modern with leather settees to wait on while the one receptionist deals with a dozen issues.
Staff are very friendly and helpful if you can find them. Although we stayed as a family, I dont beleive that Burn Hall has any family accomodation, and will instead shoe-horn a Z bed into one of the "larger" rooms. The compromise here is that can either get in your wardrobe, or the bathroom- not both! depending on where the extra bed is placed. Oh and dont expect them to accomodate a third person, as they do not provide towels, drinks, or cups etc, for the additional person (child) Our son is 8 and is as big as some adults.
The hotel accomodation is very utility with rows of rooms either side of long corridors, not very friendly and ceertainly not as good as many Travelodge type hotels.
The rooms are clean and fairly modern with flat screen TV, good quality towels and comfortable bed. Perfect or the business person staying overnight for a conference.
We pre booked a specific room because of special needs and this was confirmed several months previous.
We didnt get that room when we arrived, and were unable to be offered alternative, because of the hote full with a wedding! so this made for a difficult stay.
The Burn Hall has a recent changee in owners, since our previous visit, which was immediate apparent from things like credit card charges, big staff changes, and cut backs in the dining.
One of the plus sides of our previous visits, were the choice and quality of the evening meal, however, now you are offered a restricted "deal" menu and even the wine included was minus Rose' and the supplied wine had to be the cheapest.
When we ordered the starter, it came minus Rocket Salad which was on the menu. We were old that the Chef mis read the menu (sorry) !!!!!!!!
The meal was edible and minimul, and the "childs" menu was nearly u to a McDonalds standard.
Overall our stay was marred because of he accomodation we were given, and the obvious cut back in service (we did wait 20 minutes between courses, and had to ask to be served)and quality of the food. I wont mention Breakfast, because buffett breakfast has varied opinions.
All in all this is OK for an overnight stay if you have reasons to be out there. Otherwise, the decor, accomodation, and service, make this a no go for us again.
My other issue is that there is no indication from KGB or these other deal companies, or the hotel, that you are are receiveng anything other than a discounted rate on the "normal" stay. No mention you get a "deal" rate!

Stayed here at end of September on a Super breaks 2 night 1st night dinner deal.Went to get away from it all as was about to begin some treatment at hospital and it was the only place we could get in at short notice. Not what we expected very modern and lacking any character room view to rear was sad to say the least.Room was however clean with flat screen tv on wall and a tidy bathroom.Toilet seat was split in half when we came to use it but was changed when reported to reception.Never been in a hotel with no doors on wardrobe but at least it was clean.Drinks in bar far too expensive less than this in 4& 5 star hotels.not 3 star prices. On our first night our dinner was paid for in with the deal which we enjoyed and payed cash at the table for the wine we had giving them a 10% tip which we always do if we enjoy the meal. The second night we ate there again and again paid the bill cash at the table with a 10 % tip as we enjoyed the meal. All was fine until we came to check out and we were told we had suppliment to pay on the room which we had not as everything had been payed for cash .I Asked to speak to the manager as I did not wish to leave without resolving the issue, and was told no one was available .Never been to a hotel where management not available appalled and reluctantly left as I was not well and did not need the confrontation. When we got home I rang the hotel and demanded a written apology by the end of the week as the situation should not have arisen.3 weeks on and no letter,it seems the management are quite prepared to treat there customers with total disregard and contempt and then wonder why they get bad reviews. So avoid tipping and paying cash at the table charge everything to the room and avoid the confrontation.Be warned

We bought this through a KGBdeals voucher for our anniversary as it looked like a beautiful hotel and the "original" price was advertised as £307 for the package so we figured it would be a nice place to stay.

I felt we did not get the stay we expected. The rooms were tiny and bare, reminding me of a conference centre hotel and the bathroom was bland and smelt overpoweringly of bleach. The shower would not maintain a constant temperature, and so after being repeatedly scolded, I took to filling the bath through the shower head as there was no bath setting available. There were also no tableclothes in the restaurant during our meal and we were given water for the table but no glasses.

The tv kept switching itself off and we got ripped off by the hotel's preferred taxi provider.

However, the staff are a credit to the hotel and were polite and friendly. The food was also delicious/
