We have just been to the York bird of prey centre. We had a half day experience voucher bought for Christmas. We found it to be a very well run and we'll organised centre. Most of the staff are volunteers and were very enthusiastic which came across in the talks and demonstrations. I would recommend this place to anyone who is thinking of going to such a place. Chris the owner is passionate about all the birds as are all the staff. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and can't wait to return. It is a very hands on day out we were able to handle most of the birds from the little 3 week old barn owls to the very large and impressive Golden Eagle. 10 out of 10. There is a cafe which is reasonably priced, but you can also take a picnic. Keep up the good work. Thank you for a memorable day see you again soon.

My partner and I visited the centre after buying a groupon. It was not a huge place but it didn't need to be because the shows that ran through the day were so entertaining. Everybody watching got the chance to touch or hold various birds. The staff were super friendly and happy to answer peoples questions and make sure everybody who wanted to have contact with the birds could. The children that were there seemed to really enjoy the experience too and the staff were very patient and accommodating towards them so it would be great for a family visit. Even without a groupon the entry is pretty reasonable at £6.50 for adults. Definitely worth a visit!

Today Charlie and I went to visit the centre. we were both impressed with the lay out, the only thing about the place was that there was not much food in the café.

My husband and I visited York Bird of Prey centre today and from start to finish we had an amazing day! We booked the full day falconry course and it did not disappoint. We started by looking at the Harris Hawks and some other hawks whos names escape me, then to the European Eagle Owl called Rolo who is soft as a brush - all the birds are hand reared from eggs so many of them can be stroked and fussed with.

We then had a tour of the different owls - my favourite was Whisky, a baby Eagle Owl who is just moulting his down so looks all dishevelled and gorgeous. We were lucky enough to see him fly for the first time today.

We then went into the arena and flew a couple of the birds, all very hands on and such an amazing experience.

After lunch we watched the public display and once that had finished and we were back to the four of us in the group, they brought out the big guns - Golden Eagle, Ferrugial Hawk and Chilean Blue Eagle, all stunning and totally majestic to handle and watch fly. I never expected that by the end of the day I'd be able to say I'd handled a Golden Eagle!!

Next we went on a Hawk Walk down a nearby Bridlepath with one of the Harris Hawns - Python. Here you walk along with the Hawk flying free, bringing him down to the glove every 20 feet or so and letting him off again - if they see a rabbit (or in our case a Pheasant) their natural instinct will kick in and they will go for the kill so not for the squeamish, but again, a great experience!

After this we went back to the centre and witnessed the Peregrine Falcon flying, amazing but she didn't fulfil her potential because it was such a hot, still day, and these birds need wind to fly to their best.

All in all this was a superb day, the guides were fantastic and very knowledgeable but also fun and friendly and more than willing to go out of their way to make sure you have the best experience possible.

We were there almost 8 hours and the day flew ('scuse the pun) excellent value for money, and every penny of the money goes back into the birds and the centre - the staff are all volunteers.

The birds are very well cared for and not exploited in any way, you can tell they love their handlers and they are all healthy and happy.

1000% recommended - I'd go again tomorrow given half the chance!
