“Worst pool ever”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Room ok for money but do not go in the pool, the smell of mould is unbearable. Comfy bed but tired furnishings. Very nice receptionists who offered us nappies for our baby. Asked for a cot which was requested on booking but this was declined

We saw this hotel advertised on Booking.com and without reading about on Trip Advisor, booked a room at £20. So at that price perhaps we should not complain.

The radiator in our room did not work, but we stuck with it till 7 pm because reception said the heating was a timer and would come on at 6 pm.

So eventually they gave another room, but we were not warm till 10 pm.

I could easily repeat all the previous criticisms as they are certainly true, but its best if you read them and take it from me that they are not exagerating ! and you then decide for yourself whether or not to stay.

The pool is good and the hotel is handy for the A1 junction 42.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room first and check everything before accepting it. Rooms at the back are quieter. i...

Just returned from what was meant to be a two night stay at this hotel but which turned out to be a one night as we checked out early due to it being the most depressing place I have ever stayed.
Arrived middle of the afternoon and were given the key to our room. Felt a bit apprehensive as we walked along the long, poorly lit, damp smelling corridor passing doors which were scratched and scruffed.
Walked into our room and it was FREEZING cold. The radiator wasn't on and when we tried to turn it on nothing happened. Same with the TV. My husband went to reception to complain and was told the heating was on a timer and came on at night and in the morning. A handyman came to look at the tv and told us the on buttons had been disconnected years ago and we needed a remote control which he had to go and fetch from elsewhere. Sure enough the remote control did the job and gave us access to 4 free channels. I didn't think you could still get tv with only 4 channels!!!!

We were going out anyway, so headed off for the afternoon/evening. When we returned about 10pm, the radiator was on in our room but it was still freezing. There were no spare blankets to be had but reception gave us a small convector heater.
When we got up in the morning about 8.30ish the heating had obviously been turned off again and the room was cold .
Breakfast was mediocre-not much choice-no fruit or bread rolls/cheese etc and very expensive for what it was . i can't believe they charge £14 per head for it.
There was mould on the tiles in the bathroom and the wire to the heated towel rail was wrapped in black insulating tape.

It was a completely depressing place and as were just on a short jaunt we decided there was no point in staying somewhere utterly devoid of comfort, and so we checked out and came home.

I really couldn't reccomend this place to anyone.

Stayed one night as part of a coach trip to visit York and Harrogate and was really disappointed. The hotel was in the middle of nowhere and first impressions were that the hotel was a throw back from the 1970s in build and decor. Visitors were thin on the ground. Decor was old fashioned with stains on the lampshades and heavy curtains and bedspread. The room was fairly clean. Looking out of the windows you could see that the part of the hotel was not used and rooms looked damp and abandoned. Remember The Shining? The corridors were cold. The pool area was damp with black mould and the sauna light did not work. The showers in the room and pool smelt like stagnant water initially, suggesting they were not used often. . On the way to the pool there were cupboards filled with old tables and things. Needs a complete overhaul. The staff were quite enthusiastic in a difficult situation. Food was average but easily put together. The entertainment was a "quiz night" - meaning a quiz between you and your own partner. Very disappointing; but just added to the overall disappointment of the trip, after realising that our coach was not a direct trip from Leicester to York (2 and a half hours), but via Nottingham, Grimsby and surrounding arears (6-7 hours). Diamond Holidays, another disappointing review pending.

Stayed as part of a two night coach trip, our first experience of one. The reception was warm and staff friendly. the hotel itself is in need of and update especially ventilation as the corridors smelt of damp due to condensation. the room we stayed in was very clean, large and the beds were very comfy (I am the princess in the princess and the pea). Food was OK. It was in plentiful supply and the soup and apple crumble were delicious. It says its a restraint but I would say its more good cafe. again the staff were lovely and very helpful. the swimming pool was warm and I really enjoyed my swim. the bar was staffed by one person..not adequate for 3 coach tours and Other guests said the drinks were a little overpriced. Some guests said this was the worse place they had stayed as no entertainment laid on but I would have to say that for the price we paid it was fine.

We stayed here as part of a coach trip so had no choice where we stayed. It was in the middle of nowhere with nothing apparently close by. When we arrived it reminded me of an old fashioned holiday camp or motel with blocks of rooms overlooking a massive car park. On arrival the reception area looked fine, but the state of the corridors as we made our way to our room was a sign of things to come. Our room down in the basement was tired and in desperate need of refurbishment. The beds were clean and very comfortable however the bathroom was grim and in need of an overhaul The armchair was stained (with what? I didn't want to go there) and little touches in the room were just lacking.

Evening meal was okay, not a huge choice - my chicken curry hadn't seen anything resembling a curry and mum's fish and chips was straight out of a freezer but the toffee pudding and custard made up for it:). Breakfast was average but acceptable for the price.

Can't say I'll be rushing back.

This once nice hotel has slowly gone down hill over the last 20 or so years. We visited here on business countless times over this time and have stayed several times we have even attended functions here. Really needs a cash injection to bring it (screaming and shouting) in to the 21st century. The service is ‘OK’, the food hmmmmmm more reminiscent of a Happy Chef. The cleanliness does leave much to be desired and the outside of the hotel would really just make you want to drive past . . .
