“spa is dreadful”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

Came for a hen night. It is dreadful here. The water in the swimming pool is freezing cold. The aromotherapy room smells unpleasant. The beautician has chiped nail varnish. Not the treat we were expecting.

This hotel and spa was faultless, my daughter and I went and everything was perfect, the room, the staff, the food , everything! without a doubt I will be going again. We were still there on Monday and it was so quiet we had the swimming pool to ourselves for over an hour then only 3 people joined us.

My Brother and I stayed here for 3 nights recently. Because of my disability which I had not mentioned at the time of booking, I was moved into a higher grade room in the new annex which was very good. I have no knowledge of the rooms in the main house, but both mine and my Brothers were of a high standard.
The staff were courteous and efficient.
Breakfast however was a disappointment. In a Hotel in this price range I expect to be served with my hot breakfast at the table and not have to use the buffet system. The hot food was not HOT and probably broke several food safety standards not up to temperature and left out too long. It was impossible to cut the bacon and although a girl said fresh eggs were on the way they were so slow in arriving I couldn't be bothered to wait because all the rest of my food was getting colder..Also a sandwich ordered and eaten in the Bar was awful, dry bread, no butter and hardly any Horseradish on the beef.
We had one dinner in the restaurant which was passable but the room lacks atmosphere.
Would I go again, not at those prices.

We needed to find accommodation near York in order to be able to help our daughter and son-in-law move to their new house close by. Initial checks on availability via the internet seemed unable to match our requirement for a 7 night stay - so I emailed the hotel directly. The response was quick, positive and very helpful, offering us a 7 night stay at a considerably reduced room rate to that shown on both the hotel website and other hotel booking sites. When we arrived at the hotel we were given an upgrade to a luxury room. We spent 7 nights in very comfortable accommodation. All the staff were very friendly, the breakfasts were excellent, and having use of the top class spa facilities was an added bonus. Having a meal in the restaurant on a busy Saturday night proved no problem and the menu was varied, service excellent and the food very good value for money. We will definitely be visiting again in the very near future as our daughter is about to have her baby. It is great to know that we can have confidence in having a homely base to book for a comfortable return visit.

We've just returned from a two night stay at the Parsonage. My wife and I were very pleased with our time! Our room was fine, and available to us despite our arriving 2 hours before check-in. We had enjoyed our breakfasts and meal we had in the hotel. We found the staff excellent, helpful and cheerful all the time.

We were made to feel very welcome and will have no hesitation visiting again!

We have just returned from a two night stay to celebrate my wife's birthday. Everything about this hotel was excellant from the time we walked into the reception. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a room on the ground floor in the ' new' building which overlooked the fields. This was very clean, comfortable and quiet. The evening meals were superb and drinks not over priced. Breakfasts were also very good. Our deal included one evening meal and an afternoon tea which we ate in the garden on the second day. The whole atmosphere in the hotel was very relaxing. We used the spa facilities, which were also included in the deal, on both days. These were excellant. Only one or two people were there at the same time as us so we were able to enjoy the pool, jacuzzi and sauna and steam rooms more or to ourselves.
We travelled into York using the Park & Ride bus which went from the Designer Outlet a few miles down the road. This was a very convenient way to travel into York.
A lovely relaxing stay in a superb country hotel.

We have just returned from a two night stay bought from superbreaks that included 2 nights b and b with first night 3 course meal and afternoon tea on either day. All in all the hotel was excellent, the staff were very attentive, welcoming and friendly and the surroundings were beautiful.

We stayed at the top of the hotels main building and the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. One bad point was that the room was right outside a fire door which other visitors kept slamming shut. This became a bit annoying every two minutes and at 7 am. The room although fine for us was also up very steep stairs which could be a problem for some visitors.

The evening meal was lovely, after enjoying a drink and ordering in the bar we were taken to our table in a timely manner and were served efficiently. Although not a huge amount of choice, what was offered was good and a good choice for vegetarians too. The meal overall was delicious. The second night we ate in the bar area, though again not much of a choice the food was good and average price (However did take a long time to be brought out, considering this was only soup I dont know why).

The afternoon tea we had in the package was good, I wouldnt want to pay for it seperate as it was nothing special but it was a nice treat in nice surroundings. It did take 45 minutes- 1 hour to come after ordering. We also asked at reception if we could order a soft drink, which took 30 minutes and 2 trips to reception to finally get a waiter to bring our drinks over.

Overall however we had a fantastic few days. The spa was lovely and relaxing, the meal yummy and the stay very enjoyable. Though a few points may need addressing I Would not hesitate to return in the future and hope to do so soon enough.
