“Not a bad deal, but overdescribed”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

A decent enough deal at £90 per night for two persons, including breakfast, 3 course dinner each night with glass of prosecco, and one cream tea. However, various errors detracted from the overall impression, hence the 'average' rating. Breakfast: substantial, but the bain marie food warmers dripped water onto the food inside. Dinner: table d'hote menu with limited choice, service was slow to begin with, e.g. no drinks brought for about 10 minutes. No way would we rate it AA 2 rosettes as claimed; somewhere between gastropub and 1 rosette, presentation average and portions too large. Signage inside the hotel is insufficient, as the way to rooms in our wing was half hidden down a corridor and not obvious. Room air conditioning was faulty on first night. Tip: for your cream tea, don't go to the lounge where it is on the menu – but to the bar, where it isn't. Note that this hotel does not have pool, sauna or other leisure facilities. To end on a positive note: location is great for access to a number of National Trust and English Heritage properties, and close to major roads for whichever your direction of onward travel.

We were taken by friends for a birthday treat ,staff friendly, rooms spacious & comfortable.
Food was very good ,excellent choice at breakfast. There where two weddings at hotel so our evening meal was served in a function suite which was a bit soulless, and impersonal .

We stayed at this hotel on a special deal from Great Little Breaks. It included cream tea, dinner with sparkling wine and breakfast. There were two weddings booked the night we stayed so it was very busy. We were offered a different room which was quieter and also turned out to be a double upgrade. The food was excellent and the staff were extremely polite and courteous. Great find

Room Tip: We stayed in the 400's which was very quiet.

This chain hotel does everything just “okay”, but never quite sparkles.

As you approach the facade the hotel looks nice enough but as you enter the lobby, the carpet is worn and the wood-veneer looks unvarnished and tatty. There was a wedding party during our visit, who always took precedent over our needs. The room was spacious and clean, fine for a couple night stop. I must compliment the shower: clean and powerful and plenty of hot water.

Our cream tea was perfunctory and the bar drinks a bit on the expensive side. The food and service for our evening meal was very nice. I have soup and lamb, the tenderness cooked-to-order. The meal was quite spartan, but adequate. In the morning, the breakfast was adequate but the service was poor; not offered tea/coffee, etc, plates not cleared away the whole time we sat at the table...tables not readied for new guests...no plates for the hot food...

Places like could really sparkle if a bit more attention to details was paid. You won’t have a bad stop-over, neither will you have a stay to remember.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back to avoid party/function noise!

We have just got back from a short trip to Warwick, and stayed here last night. The hotel was adequate and served its purpose. The room was comfortable and as it was a superior room the bed was huge and so comfortable.. ! The room was very hot and had to leave the windows open and unfortunately we backed onto the rear car park and the kitchen which had some very noisy units? ? We ate in houstons and the steak was cooked perfect, well done as requested but still succulent . I made the booking on an internet deal and cannot complain with the deal we got. Maybe if I had paid for just the room and then had to pay for food on top then it may have not been so great, there was abit of a mix up when checking where our included meal was to be ordered and was sent backwards and forwards and after checking for the 2nd time with reception was told to
order in houstons... and then tried to charge me on check out for going over my 'limit' on food !?!? This was quickly corrected without a fuss to my satisfaction.

I was booked in here by my employer prior to a meeting and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel.
My room was well appointed and even boasted air conditioning which was a welcome bonus in the current hot weather.
I ate in the bar and enjoyed my meal which was freshly cooked and service was good.
Breakfast was also perfectly acceptable although as ver suffered from being a self service buffet

We stayed here because the location was convenient for a concert at the Ricoh Arena. The hotel is a pleasant building with plenty of parking although exiting the Car park can be tricky (see below). Before leaving for the concert we decided to use the "Houston" bar for food. I didn't realise that places like this still existed, the bar is styled as an American diner and is ok but the food served is poor. We both had the chicken club sandwich, service was slow although the place was nearly empty. The meal was very dry and the frozen chips were just crisped skins full of oil. I thought we had left food of this poor quality behind decades ago, it was no better than that served in Motorway services.
The staff at the Meriden need to realise that they are in the hospitality business and that customers today expect certain standards. Throughout our stay there was feeling that you as a customer are only tolerated as long as you comply with their rules.
There were numerous indications of this, such as when we arrived and asked about food we were told that the restaurant was bookings only and that Houstons bar also should be booked even though it was nearly empty because they prefer it. Also you have to enter a code to leave the car park, the receptionist was very abrupt in giving the code and when it didn't work became quite impatient when asked to repeat it (and it wasn't just me that couldn't make it work. We also witnessed an example of guests being spoken to in an intolerable manner by a member of staff.

All in all a decent Hotel let down by shocking customer service and bar food that went out with the Ark.
