The old jetty was partly demolished when we visited and had been replaced by a new building in land. The new lifeboat was being delivered in the next few days. The lifeboat is delivered directly into the sea by a purpose built tractor cradle assembly that cost some £1 million pounds, the boat costing some £2 million pounds. Had an excellent show around the new premises by one of the volunteers.

I have actually been assisted, it would be harsh to say rescued as our lives were not in danger, by The Selsey lifeboat back in the day 1984/85.
The old lifeboat station is being retired and there is a spanky brand new one and they receive a new life boat The Denise and Eric in the coming days.
We went in and had a very interesting chat with The Coxswain, we could find no record of our rescue on their rescues boards, in some ways we were glad not to be on the 'wall of shame' but in others we were sad as it is a slice of our history albeit our own daft doing.
The RNLI do such a great job and is a completely voluntary organisation, do drop in and give them your support ad leave a donation, however small, just whatever you can afford.
You will leave smiling.

We cycled along the coast path from West Sands Holiday park on our bikes until came across the Lifeboat station, when we got there we were lucky to see one of the lifeboats being winched from the sea . You don't realise just how big they are until you see them in real life and what a fab job they do.

This is a necessity rather than a place visit or an attraction. Lacking the uniqueness of the original boathouse, which is due to be demolished in June. At first glance the building is gargantuan and overly large. Unfortunately it does not fit in well with its surroundings.
